Ferrantelli’s has closed it’s doors for good. This was a very good if not great restaurant in the 80’s but unfortunately never kept up with the times. Sorry to see it go but maybe something more up to date and fresh will move in!!!

This place is closed, tables and equipment still scattered inside and on the patio — appears they might have been packing up to move and then just stopped. Sign on the door says closed forever and lists a contact number. We hate to see local businesses decline and close, but frankly this place had become an over-priced tourist trap that the locals didn’t patronize. A sad end for what had been(years ago) a very good, if somewhat expensive, Italian place. If you’re in the mood for the tastes of Italy in Dana Point, try Mario’s by the Sea — much better food and reasonably priced.

I like this restaurant despite what the bad reviews say. Me and my friends go there all the time and the people there are nice. The service is good and so is the food. Its hard to find good italian food that sits right in my stomach, I never had a bad experience with this place. Some people on the internet love to complain about the smallest things and its sad because i usually read reviews of place but then I see places like this get bad reviews and its disappointing to know how terrible some people are. So yea dont listen to the whiners. this place is just fine and I’m actually going there tomorrow.

I don’t know why all the reviews are bad. Me and my husband went this Sunday night with a groupon. It was great! service was good, cant complain. and the food was great too! We had the home made pasta– ravioli w/mushroom n spinach and also a chicken breast fettuccine with champagne garlic sauce. So bomb!

I got the lunch groupon for this restaurant and I read the Unilocal reviews before going. I was kinda worried about maybe receiving the same bad service as other reviewers mentioned before. But service was just okay, everything took such a long time. It was also pretty hard to find our waiter or any waiter since they were always somewhere else. The décor is kinda fancy and I definitely felt under dressed. But as another reviewer mentioned it seemed like they were trying too hard. They give you bread and butter as a free starter which was nice to munch on while we were looking at the menu. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was fairly good, it comes with a marinara sauce. It’s kinda bland without the sauce even though it has Parmesan and herbs as a seasoning . My entrée was the capellini carbonara and it either came with the house salad or a soup. I got the soup which was cream of broccoli and it was really good, nicely flavored but it is very creamy and thick. I saw the salad and its just the usual salad with a vinaigrette it was okay but its just a salad. My pasta was also good as well, but it tasted like I was inhaling and eating pure butter. Maybe that’s why it was so good, the pancetta bits was a nice touch as well. I was able to try the cannelloni which was fairly good, especially with the spinach and cheese in the center. I also tried the ravioli di magro. The ravioli was kinda odd and i thought the tomato sauce was kinda watery. Overall, I probably wouldn’t come back unless I wanted to clog my arteries.

We had great friends to enjoy the time, so it turn out to be fun evening, but the this restaurant was OK. I think the restaurant is confused with it’s identity. It is not fancy as the picture shows. But don’t want to be casual. I had dirty silver wares and coffee came in lip stick stained cup. Flavor of the food is fine, even though past was a little over cooked. A Little too expensive for casual dining, but not fancy place to enjoy atmosphere and all. Full bar with no draft beer, corking fee of wine and $ 25. Deserts are $ 10. Most entries are between $ 15 to $ 25.

I really wanted to like this resturant. The décor is so extravagent, it almost feels like they are trying to hard. A bit over the top at first. We had no reservations, and despite at least 10 empty tables I could see, we were asked to wait about 15 minutes before being seated. Once seated, the table had no place setting, no candle, no glasses, nothing. Worse of all, no waiter for about another 20 mintues. The water boy was about the only person we saw, and he brought us some bread and water. For a while, it felt like prision. The couple next to us(who was seated AFTERUS) started biching and moaning, so the manager comped them free drinks. When the waiter finally did show up, he went to the compainer’s table FIRST. The water boy tried to point out we were there first, but that didnt seem to mater. As we had about 30 minutes to look at the menu, we knew what we wanted to try. When I made my selections, it was almost as if the waiter had never heard of the dishes. I had to point to the item on the menu so he could see what I wanted. Our wine came out and was not bad. The food itself was actually very good I have to say. I ordered a chicken dish with artichoke and my girlfriend order a pasta dish that was spectacular. Once we got our order in, the wait for our food was not bad, about fiteen minutes. It tastes very autentic. I think they have a chef from Italy back there. The serving sizes are a bit below average size, but most places give you too much anyways. But this waiter(while he seems nice), really needed to get a clue. Half way through our dinner, he nonchalently drops the check on our table, right in front of my girlfriend. I guess thats answers if we are going to get to order another glass of wine or desert. He never even asked! When I was a teenager I used to work at Mc Donalds, and even I was a better waiter than this guy. He need to go back to basic training. Maybe he was overwhelmed, but that is no excuse for common courtesy. So great food, nice ambience, but our entire evening was ruined by a terrible waiter and long and unneccesary wait.

Service was fantastic but food is very mediocre. We had some type of appetizer sampler it was huge and the scampi was swimming in the bottom of this butter sauce… just not my style. Main course stuffed pasta was extremely over cooked but the Filet Mignon was good. If you are into over sized marble faux décor it’s OK but for me the food is a bit overpriced for the quality.

This place is confused. There is WAY too much going on inside Faux marbleized columns with birds on top, swag curtains, jade looking banisters with Chinese dragons, busy flooring that is right out of the grand ballroom at a hotel, brown painted wood cabin ceilings with brown painted track lighting, table lamps with BRIGHT fluorescent lighting, really loud Mexican music(did the cleaning crew leave it on and they somehow forgot this is an Italian restaurant?) Thomasville beefy chairs, white table cloths– If I thought it could not get any worst… the plates come out. Square Chinese plates for the salad, round plates with a burgundy rim straight out of a diner for the bread plate, dinner plate was a Mexican pottery bowl. Glasses? none of them matched– bed bath beyond octagons and smooth curvilinear water glasses. REALLY confusing. There was barely anyone in the restaurant. Gave us the option– do you want to sit under the fluorescent table light? or under the exit sign and the drafty door? um. Can I pick the table? After that little hiccup– the service was good. Food was not. Vegetarian Tapas Spread with the spongey bread– I think it was cold drained progresso veggie soup. Caesar salad– is there lettuce in here? I’m just seeing a whole lot of Caesar. Lasagna– plate was piping hot– the food on the plate was not. It was ok– nothing to kick my heals off to. Maybe the outdoor dining is more enjoyable, across the street from the harbour and less evasive on your senses.

Had a work related dinner here a few nights ago. We had reserved the private dining room for us — nicely decorated with a good vibe… Food was good… i ordered the Filet Mignon with shrimp — you cant really go wrong with that… A bit pricey for an Italian restaurant… 3 stars because of the price… food would be more like a 3.5. I would go again as long as I didnt have to pay for the tab!

More like 3.5 stars to me and I’m pretty conflicted about this place. There are so many likes about this place but something is little«off» to me. The food is delicious, service is good, price is decent, décor is fitting but… The Food — Bruschetta was garlicky and perfectly seasoned; Scampi was sauteed in delicious creamy butter sauce; Della Familia salad was spot on with sweet raw red onion with fitting vinegar dressing; gnocchi was perfectly cooked; pork Oso bucco was tender with lasagna pasta with velvety tomato based sauce which is rich and full of flavor. The Service — prompt and attentive The Price — little bit on the pricey side The Décor — obligatory faux Italian décor(at least they are trying) The But… — I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe because I was surrounded by «older» patrons which made the dinner lot more formal than I would’ve preferred. Cheers,

***THISREVIEWISFORTHEIRNEWHAPPYHOURONLY*** Cons: Barely even good! Our server was a pompous salesman and convinced us that the hh wine was so good because it was imported from Italy. It tasted like $ 2 buck chuck. He also said the breaded artichoke hearts were the best app the restaurant served. So we ordered them. We got 3 crappy little balls. They tasted frozen and re-fried! Not good at all, in fact gross. The cheese pizza was okay at best. Lastly, the layered eggplant(my pick) was pretty good. It was served almost room temp(by accident I’m sure) but very tasty. I would not seek this place out, but might try it one more time but I’d be sure to try a cocktail and other apps. Pros: The patio was so nice and relaxing and it was only $ 12/person when all was said and done. Also, the bread and tomato spread was tasty.

I was on a mission to discover a dark romantic environment for my wedding rehearsal dinner, and for some reason, this one seemed to pop up whenever I did a search for one in the Dana Point area. The owner/manager Anthony Bertoli is an interesting fellow but very nice in that mobster sorta I’m here to please you for the right amount, or maybe even in the vain of «I’m going to make you an offer you cannot refuse» HAHAHA… After trying a few dishes off some preset menus we found ourselves saying… «This is the best Ceasar salad I’ve ever eaten» «Didya try the bread? It’s so moist and rosemary-ish» «Lasagna is the winner, but I wonder what the Chilean SeaBass tatstes like» or my favorite… «Sir I’m ready to book when you are as long as you let me keep the mixed berry crème brûlée as part of the dessert» Good eats, real Italians, great service, no funny biznass or you’ll swim with the fishes ;-)

Take the five stars as you will, but I’ll give a star off the bat to anywhere that helps me avoid eating nasty stuff on Thanksgiving. My family had the traditional turkey meal, which was only odd in that the cranberry sauce was used as gravy and instead of potatoes they had gnocchi, which, really, is potato pasta so, I guess that counts. My blind grandmother didn’t really get it though, so the pumpkin filled deliciousness that was the gnocchi, were«bad potatoes» to her. Whatever, she’d complain anywhere save Marie Calendars which is really the only place she thinks is fantastic, except for McDonalds because you can get a little burger, fries and a drink at just the right size. I had the filet with lump crab meat and a bernaise sauce. To die for. I seriously was thankful that Grandma didn’t have that because she may not have made it, and that just would have made Thanksgiving awkward. My only complaint was that they had beautiful wine glasses set on the table, perfect for a red that needs to breathe, but they took them away and gave us chincy glasses to consume what, with a bit of air, could have been a truly fabulous Paso Robles Syrah.
