We moved into Davenport 4 months ago. To help us get acclimated, our daughter gave us gift certificates to local eateries and one was The Proper Pie. I have never been to the UK but love British mysteries and was anxious to try their pies. We ordered a bunch of different things: beef and mushroom pie, Cornish pasty, chicken and asparagus pie, and Eccles cake. Everything was fantastic! The crusts on all the pastries was light and fluffy, the gravies were rich, the combination of ingredients was delicious. The Eccles cake was full of currants. We will definitely be back!

Great selection of British foods. Bought several pies for my wife who is from Scotland and misses some of the traditional food. Would definitely buy from again if in the area.

Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! I had the steak & ribs and absolutely loved both! My kids, who are usually picky, had the steak and ribs and loved them both. Great service as well! Will return!

This place is excellent. I have been living in Davenport for over 4 years and drive by this place all the time, but never went in. I really love the scones, they are perfect and not so sweet as the ones you find in Publix and Target. The Chicken and Mushroom pie was very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place.

This was a nice surprise… it’s a very unassuming place, hidden off Hwy 27, but you will not be disappointed here. The food was authentic and delicious. They have British items like sodas and candy bars. The Fish & Chips were amazing and the tartare sauce is hands down the best I’ve ever had.

I’m giving 5 stars cause the pie was lovely. I had the steak and mushroom(was going to try chicken and mushroom) but the young lady at the shop suggested steak(and I’m pleased she did) … Only bad side it was the weekend so no chips and when asked for brown sauce they had very little. I suggested she open a new one(their was a few on display) she said she couldn’t. But oh well still nice. Defiantly will be going back.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this place since I decided to stop in on my drive home to Orlando from Tampa. I lived in Europe for almost 4 years and took plenty of trips to London in which I consumed my body weight(and then some) in pastys so I consider myself a bit of an expert on these things and let me tell you, this place is as good as it gets! I am literally planning to drive the 40 min here JUST to buy pies!!! Good news is they store in the freezer and reheat beautifully… I know this because I’m my first trip I bought several… I had to try multiple options so I could give a fair review… I did it all for Unilocal!!!As if the delicious food weren’t enough, the couple that owns the shop are absolutely delightful. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend you stop in and give this shop a try!!!

My wife and I got out of work early to make it to the Proper Pie before they close at 6. We had checked out the menu on their website that day and made the 50min drive to try their fish and chips! Upon reaching there, a paper sign on the door said no fish for a couple of days. We asked the woman at the counter what that was about and she said her husband who does the fish was out of town for a few days. I told her she needs to make a note on the website and she replied that they don’t have control over it. One star because we had are heart set on fish and chips and we took off work two hours early to make a 50min drive. Perhaps a note on the website that fish n chips is when available?!

The mince pies are out of this world. The crust is delicious and according to the lovely owners the mincemeat is homemade. Having shared them with others after purchasing dozens, people who don’t like mince meat love these. You simply must taste them, luv. Buy a lot so there will be some left for you.

The meat pies, pasties, and shepherds pie did not disappoint! We took ours home and heated them up for dinner. We were all very happy with our individual selections. I was worried about some of the negative reviews I read, and when I walked in and saw that it was just a teeny tiny English themed storefront(with dirty looking floors) I was afraid I led my family astray. I was so relieved everyone was so satisfied after dinner. The food was much better than any«up-north» pastie I’ve ever had. The people were very friendly. I can wait to try the fish and chips!

Attention! And God Save The Queen!

To come here I guess you have to be a local or like me, just stumble upon it on Unilocal when you are hungry and passing-by in this area between Tampa and Orlando. When I saw the name on Unilocal,I got intrigued. Having spent a significant amount of time in the UK, I knew what a «Cornish Pie» is and was hoping that they were serving it… and sure enough they do! It is a small counter, mainly with to go food and a couple of tables outsides in the parking lot. Not a romantic setting for sure but the pies are authentic and big enough for two. I made the mistake of having one for myself and my partner got a «Fish and chips». Both were excellent but we ended with more than twice the food that you can reasonably eat. Staff seems like authentic Brits so it is nice not only for the food but for the authenticity of the atmosphere also… well, as long as you don’t look outside and see that it is sunny and warm!

This is such a wonderful little shop. Tonight was my second trip. On the first trip, we bought 2 frozen pies for later and some fresh fish and chips. The fish and chips were excellent! Dipped right before my eyes and fried to perfection. After thawing, the shepherds pie was not best I’ve ever had but it was very good. The formerly frozen chicken and mushroom pie was so tasty that I went back to get a non-frozen one for dinner tonight. Whether frozen or fresh, the crust is buttery and fluffy; the«guts» are tender and flavorful. The owner is personable and helpful for non-Brit pie newbies. He helped me on both visits. The young lady at the counter today was also very friendly and helpful. Last, but certainly not least, is the stock of British food stuffs(most of which I have no clue what they are) and CANDY! oh the wonder that is British chocolates and candy. If you are from England(on vacation or an ex-pat) this shop is bound to have that little piece of England that you just can’t get your hands on at the mega mart.

I’ve never been to England so I really couldn’t say what a «proper pie» is. What I can say is these things are incredible! The pastry alone wins 4 of the 5 stars. If puff pastry and pie pastry had a baby with all the best of both it would be this pastry. Hats off to the chef! The steak and Guiness pie was simply perfect. My only regret is that I wasn’t eating it on a cloudy day in the rain. This pie just screams for a pint and some cool weather. It also screams to be eaten long after you’re full too. The curry chicken is the perfect blend of spices that has a hint of heat but mostly is a new twist on comfort food for an American. The chicken with broccoli and cheese was pretty good too but made even better with some curry gravy drizzled over top. They keep some of that on hand for chips apparently. Quite tasty! As Americans we get snapshots of other country’s signature dishes that sometimes don’t tell the whole story. I’m not sure how fish and chips became what we think of when we think of England considering the BBC claims that curry is the national dish. I would postulate that if all meat pies were made like these then fish and chips would be a distant second place. They’re that good! I would say the location probably only serves them from a standpoint of cost. The landlord of the complex they’re located in clearly has zero pride in property ownership. If they weren’t there I’d say the whole strip would be empty. That exit on I4 is a gas and convenience stop only. I say come on up to Sanford! We already have German, Belgian and Middle Eastern restaurants. We have tons of Brits landing at Sanford Airport on charter flights. We could use a little pie shop that kills it every day!

This is a small British grocery, bakery, restaurant, caterer. Most get their food to go but there is a picnic table outside for eating if you like. Service is swift and the staff is knowledgeable. I am not«England-experienced» so enjoyed the novelty of picking out a steak and Guiness double puff pastry for supper and a familiar-looking shepherd’s pie for another day. They did have(frozen) Yorkshire pudding and a large container of Brown Pickle, two favorites from my travels to England. Most definitely gourmet eats and fills a homesick pang in some friends. I found the both the steak/Guiness(with cubed potato) pie and shepherd’s pie to be bland – which I understand is typical English food. There was no depth of flavor, both dishes almost tasted alike. The shepherd’s pie had peas and beans in with the meat. I awoke in the middle of the night with an incredibly salty mouth. If meat, taters, salt, pepper is all you need, this is your place but lack of flavor reduced a star for my tastes. Prices are fair, options are many. They have steak pies, vegetarian pies, fruit pies, curry chicken pies, lamb pies, Scottish beef & onion pies. They have fish & chips, bangers & mash, Scotch eggs and scones. They have frozen items to go as well – Irish back bacon, black/white pudding, kipper fillets, crumpets, beef wellington, steak & kidney pudding. Prices average $ 6 to $ 12(fruit pies $ 2.50). The serving size is for one person or two lighter eaters with a salad. It was a delightful trip across the pond without the airfare.

My sister and I are visiting Orlando, you know to do the whole theme parks thing. Granted because of this we’re stuck eating at chain restaurants and the only cultural food experience we can have is when I cook. But this morning we were in the mood for something different all together. We found a Spanish bakery along highway 27 but came to find that it was closed down. Not knowing what to do, maps told us there was a bakery 10 mins further down 27, Proper Pie Co. We get there and the place is small, but the flavor is huge! Derrick(hopefully spelled his name right) is a friendly British man that truly knows how to make pies! This isn’t some chain place that just covers your pie in salt or sugar like a routine day, he puts effort into your pie and you can taste it! My sister and I are really glad that we found this gem! Granted we didn’t eat at the picnic tables cause we needed to meet up with friends but I’m sure the customer service here is just as warm as the food. Do yourself a favor, you want food that is actually worth the price, check this place out!

Sorry to join the bandwagon but their pies were perfect. Exactly what one would want to receive when they think of a meat pie in the first place. A perfectly golden, greasy crust with hot seasoned meat on the inside. That’s what it’s all about. Food would go well with a bowl of some British Grass after a long day of work.

Stopped by Saturday morning with my boyfriend. The owner of the shop was behind the counter baking and said hello and told us to let her know if she needed anything. My boyfriend(who was born in the UK) totally geeked out over all the British crisps and pies. The shop was stocked with some things that the«English» section of Publix doesn’t have. We got a bunch of crisps and candies, plus a few pies and sausage rolls. We devoured the sausage rolls as soon as we got home, as they were fresh out of the oven. The sausages are a home recipe according to the owner of the shop… her husband makes them fresh. They were delicious with some brown sauce to dip it in! We’ll definitely be back soon. My bf was thrilled at all the goodies we stocked up on, and so far the pies we got are delicious(and freezable!).
