They killed it. Change of ownership. Place has been sold. The new name is Taqueria El Burrito or some shit. Anybody know if they have another restaurant let me know…

Came here with family after them raving how good it was. For me it wasnt anything special, Its a pretty typical chinese food restaurant. i enjoyed the food, The prices are affordable, and the food is good. Honestly, I have had better Chinese food though. Might come again if im close by but probably wouldnt go out of my way to come here.

I have been here a few times when I have been in Davis. There are a few things your should know to make your experience more pleasant. Do not come here for the buffet! The buffet is over priced(about $ 12 with drink) like most are and its not worth it. Order off the regular menu, you get the same options but made to order and half the price. My S.O. got generals chicken and it was excellent. I got shrimp in hot garlic sauce and it was yummy! Crispy fried shrimp with veggies in that garlic sauce was killer. With the lunch combos you get soup, egg rolls, the entrée and your choice of steamed rice, fried rice or noodles for $ 5 – 7 bucks. We ate here yesterday for $ 12 plus tip. Long story short, order off the menu and stay away from the buffets!

Came here for lunch after going to the Davis flea market. The servers are all very nice. It’s not the biggest buffet I’ve ever been to but they have enough to choose from and a good selection at that. Everything I tried was pretty good, other than the egg rolls. But that could just be me. I’m a little picky when it comes to egg rolls and I don’t like them at most places. Overall it is not overly priced, just normal. Will probably be back again. *Also, I didn’t feel as though the deep fried foods were soggy at all or overly greasy. This could be because I came right before/during the lunch time? Not sure.

This place is not bad. It would be my second voice though behind Golden Bowls. They have a cool menu that tells you which sauces to mix for the best taste — i love that.

I went with some friends Sunday around 1pm for the lunch buffet. Most of the food items had run out and were not being replenished. Steamed buns were under cold«heat» lamps instead of over steamers, so they were tough, dry, and chewy. Terrible! Foods that WERE deep fried were stale, cold, and soggy.

I’ve never tried the buffet here, but I love the combination plates! It’s amazing how much food they give you for such a low price. The service is great too. There is a man who cracks me up because he’s so sweet as well as the lady who works here. They have never disappointed me here and I miss this place sooo much! The take-out food is quick too!!!

This was the worst meal I have ever had… did the afternoon buffet on a Saturday, I wanted the Thai Bistro next door, but the wife wanted to try this & I usually lose the argument. Most of the pans in the buffet were empty, I opened the pork bun bamboo steamer thing, and it was empty, so I left the cover slightly open. Waitress came by, looked at it. yep, empty, so she covered it and never went back to bother re-filling it. Asked for Diet Coke, got a can of regular(both my wife and I had that experience and I don’t want to hear the«no speaky English BS». The hot & sour soup was terrible. I recommend they leave the People’s Republic of Davis & the programmed-economy for a day and sample the competition in Republican/Free Market-Stronghold Granite Bay. The goopy-sauce covered whatever was gnasty(all of it was). Then they handed us a bill for 2 plates at $ 9.95 each. I’m a big tipper usually(at least 20%), they got a zip on this one. I walked out hungry & we got a bagel for the drive back. What was even more awesome is when they suddenly started bringing out fresh food(this was like 2:30 on a Saturday), they put them all on a big round table and then the entire kitchen staff & wait staff sat down & had lunch together(leaving the absolute crap at the buffet counter). I was almost tempted to walk over & snag some off their table. I have to say, I’ve never had a decent meal in Davis since Tokyo’s closed several years ago. The bar of success with the broke-college student crowd seems to be about as high as a limbo stick or something.

This place changed ownership about 6 – 9 months back… and the new place is nothing like what it used to be, in a good way. The buffet used to be so bad, I’d rather eat airport Chinese food. It was Americanized, buy in such a way that it was an insult to both Chinese and Americans. Buy the new management! Oh their menu dishes are now SSOOOO good. Very authentic northern Chinese dishes. The chefs and managers are from Shandong province, and they know their noodle/bread dishes well. They also take pride in their special lamb dishes. So, try a lamb noodle soup; lamb skewers; dumplings; xiao long bao… I’d say they are the best, authentic Chinese food within a 45 mile radius.

Ok, so the 4 star rating is for the price for the amount of food you get… so i guess you can call it quantity over quality. For a little over $ 20 you can get enough food to last two people 3 – 4 full meals. I usually order the«C» for two people and it’s literally 2 huge bags of food. For the price, the food isn’t bad. Perfect for finals week. :-)

Overall best experience. I’ve been to most of the Chinese restaurants in Davis and I never felt completely satisfied at any other restaurant but this one. The prices are reasonable, service is good, and of course the food is good too! I’d have to say the Mongolian Beef might be my favorite it… just something about its sauce and the tenderness of the beef that makes it soooooo goood! The Honey Walnut Prawns will not disappoint you either. Love this place to death and will be a loyal customer every time I’m in the mood for Chinese and of couse when in Davis.

Went here twice for their lunch buffet, once for dinner. Typical Chinese restaurant that is comparable to Hunan. The food that is served during lunch buffet is everything you expect a Chinese restaurant in Texas would offer. Standard steamed rice, fried rice, and chow mein are staples. Egg drop soup and wonton strips were present every time I dine here. Stay away from their sushi though; I assure you that there are better sushi in Davis. Fruits and jello are considered«desserts» for my family — apparently it is the same at Great Wall of China. Overall, it’s pretty decent food for the price so I wouldn’t discourage anyone from coming. Just don’t expect gourmet.

How many times do I need to go to Chinese lunch buffets to learn that I need to stop doing this to myself?! We were hopeful Great Wall of China would hit the spot for a quick and cheap lunch. It was relatively cheap but not cheap enough for the gross grease-fest that ensued. All I can remember about the food is that it was heaped in oil… it did not really have any other distinguishing factors. Our bench where we ate reminded me of eating on the school cafeteria. The reviews for dinner at Great Wall of China seem more positive, so maybe I’ll give them another chance over dinner hour. But for lunch, you mostly only want to come here if you desire to bathe yourself in a vat of grease!

Make no mistake, Chinese food is notoriously greasy. But when it becomes so greasy that you can cut through the air and serve up a slab of oil, you know something’s wrong. That’s the problem with this place. I came here for their lunch buffet and was struck by how much the atmosphere was laced with what felt like oil that had been used over and over again. Sitting the farthest possible distance away from the kitchen did not help. Even the seats seemed to be slick with the stuff. You can imagine how the food must have tasted. To add insult to injury, I also noticed that the food often had a stale taste to it. But the crab rangoons were fantastic.

Great wall helped get me through freshman year of college when we didn’t feel like the DC, but we didn’t have cars(we were lazy freshman and thought that biking downtown was too far.) The fact that they delivered the food right to the dorm made it great! They have a lunch buffet that I have had once, and I did not like it at all. The quality of food(which isn’t amazingly high to begin with) was really bad. For lunch, I always get the lunch specials which comes with an entrée and either chow mein or fried rice. Their chow mein is really good(especially the shrimp chow mein.) The dinner specials are always a good way to go for college students. For under $ 10 per person you can get: For two people: –soup –egg rolls –crab/cream cheese wontons –Chow mein or fried rice –beef and broccoli –sweet and sour pork For each additional person another entrée is added.

Got the family dinner special with my friend for ~$ 20. Yuck. It was like eating spoonfuls of MSG and oil. Had lots of leftovers that I didn’t even bother eating.

Great Wall, you did it. you made the perfect Chicken Chow Mein for me. you allow me to ask for those pesky been sprouts to be removed. how extremely amazing of you. no one else seems to share your desire to make your customers happy. now, i’ve only eaten a handful of the dishes here, but so far i haven’t found one. even that time that i asked for the Mongolian Chicken and got Mandarin Chicken instead. it was so tasty, i didn’t even call to complain. my only problem is, every single time i go in there, there is NOONE eating there. maybe everyone is like me and just gets it togo? i donno. you’d get the other two stars if you brought my food to me while wearing a gorilla suit, but i don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Going to Great Wall of China was an excellent reward for a chaotic week and the first round of midterms during the notorious Winter Quarter PROS: –relatively cheap! Sara D. said that it was $ 7.50, but they raised it to $ 8.10.(whatever, i don’t mind, esp. with the minimum wage raise, because that is still cheap compared to the $ 10-$ 13 I pay back in Milpitas! –not packed(but there were still people) and ample seating during lunchtime on a Friday –attentive workers who don’t get all up in your grill. haha –good food selection: soup, pot stickers, teriyaki chicken, spring rolls, some«sushi,» noodles, etc. CONS: –there were none that I noticed!(I didn’t note the parking, because I took the bus) ps – supposedly, on there menu, there is 10% off for to-go orders!
