I used to go here all the time about 10 years ago back when they were so busy that they had a big sign that told you how long the wait was. its not busy anymore, I think it has to do with the fact that there are now more sit down burger joints in davis and woodland. i went a few days ago kinda early after walking my dog in the arboretum and it looked pretty clean the patio was clean, plain but clean. *still a great place to go if you don’t drink alcohol.*still has the walk up window so you can get food while walking your dog.*still walking distance to the arboretum. *still has crispy bacon*still has corn dogs. still yummy large shareable meals.

They murdered my burger. It was 100% mustard and stale bun. If you like your burger with no flavor but mustard this is the place for you. The fries were stale and the price for everything was $ 12. Could’ve gotten four 2x2s at in n out across the street. The only way to make this burger joint better is to take a bottle of rum to the face.

This place was a great burger joint back in the day, but it is no longer the case and hasn’t been for quite a while. Their food is very expensive and is very poor for the price paid. Their fries taste store-bought, their burgers often have hairs in them(I’ve heard of people finding pubic hairs in their food) and I had one unidentifiable hair in some onion rings I got the last time I went there. The place is filthy and poorly kept and it’s a well-known fact that some of their employees deal drugs on the job. Avoid at all costs. Ignore the enticing nature of it’s past glory and hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, and go elsewhere. Just trust me on this.

Best place to get a unique and delicious bison burger or wild bore!!! You have to be willing to spend top dollar for a half pound or even a pound if you have a big appetite but it’s totally worth it.

When you think run down Burger Join in the Heart of the College town. Nothing gets you down and dirty like Redrum Burger I went with a friend who ate at this place when it was called Murder Burger. They had to change the name for some reason. This place id dated; I’m talking old a bit run down. The food isn’t bad; but it wasn’t the best burger I have ever had. It was good after a long day of boarding but not a burger worth the hour + drive for me. The prices were a bit more then a typical burger place and I got to enjoy that well water Davis is known for. I feel bad for this place being so close to in and out burger I’m sure it has really hurt it’s business. The bathrooms were very gross and I didn’t even want to wash my hands here. It’s a old style run down Burger joint that is getting by on it’s rep alone; If they want to last and make a run vs IN and out across the street. They should look to make some changes as I wont’ return.

I had seen the signs for a long time and had always wanted to try it. I happened to be in davis for work so I thought I’d stop in. Sadly, it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped for. I ordered the western burger and seasoned frys and thought it was pretty average at best. For the cost($ 13.00, no drink) I was hoping it would have been worth it. Like I mentioned, it was average. I eat really fast and before i could finish the bottom bun was soggy. The frys were ok, nothing special. The one good thing was the hospitality was great. They call you by name and more than once they mentioned how they appreciated my business. I wish I could have written a more positive review, but it just wasn’t what I’d hoped.

This place seems a bit divey, with how th restaurant looks and the restrooms outside. The light didn’t even work for the women’s bathroom so it was a bit off putting, but the food was decent. Service — friendly. I actually let my purse there, silly me, but someone turned in my purse or they found it. I’m so thankful everything was there! Food — my boyfriend and I got the Annihilator burger to share because it’s a 1 lb cheese burger with bacon that comes with fries in the side. We also upgraded to seasoned fries. I like how they have a menu place card to show what other toppings are free and what items are extra. The burger was good, but some parts of the patty were dry. The bacon was thick so it was really tasty being crispy. The seasoned fries are super tasty too, I think much better if we were to order the regular fries. Parking — a lot behind the restaurant. It fits only less than 15 cars for sure so hopefully it won’t get too busy, causing you to find street parking. Seating — 3 sections to sit. Limited seating inside, patio seating on the side as well as a separate patio seating closer to the parking lot.

Stopped in on the drive back from Tahoe to San Fran, it was nice to get off the road, stretch my legs, and refuel. I got the ½ pound special with a large fries and a large drink for around $ 12. No substitutions but there are a bunch of add ons and things that you can get for free. Free add ons: 1000 island dressing, garlic or chipotle mayo, pesto, BBQ, and teriyaki sauce. as well as seasoned fries. It did take a few minutes for the burger to come out, but its to be expected for anything made fresh to order. The burger was huge, i should have gone with the 1⁄3 pound combo instead, but after a long day of snowboarding, i think i earned the calories. Over all it was a good burger, it was large, the bun was grilled, i also got it with chipotle mayo, which made it moist, but he chipotle flavor was a bit mild. The fries were hand cut and the large that came in the combo were HUGE! Enough to feed 3 normal adults or 2 teenaged boys! I ordered seasoned fries, but it just seemed like regular fries, no biggie. The fries were good, and much more crispy than In N out(across the street) who’s fries i detest, but not McDonalds crispy(which are not hand cut). I also asked for a side of chipotle mayo to dip my fries, i went back and forth between the chipotle mayo and ketchup. The large drink in the combo was also huge, I’d guess 40 oz or so. just way too much soda for a single person, but enough to share since there is no fountain to refill at. I think for 2 people you could just order 1 large combo, and an extra burger and just share the fries and drink. I think its a great value as the portions are large. I also like that you can add stuff like bacon, avocado, grilled mushrooms, chili, pastrami, and jalapeños, which you can’t do at In N out. Yes In N out is cleaner and cheaper and has refillable sodas, but its not as customizable and there are other options here like bison, turkey, chicken, black bean burgers as well hotdogs, sandwiches, onion rings, fried zucchini, and mushrooms, and fruit shakes.

I remember when I was a kid traveling back from Tahoe along I-80, and seeing this billboard for Murder Burger. I thought that was a funny name and it stuck in my head like funny names are supposed to. The location in Davis CA I think is the same today, but the name changed to Redrum Burger … that’s Murder spelled backwards! I guess«Murder» was a bit too gory for some people. So, here I am in Davis a while ago, waiting for my sister’s car to be worked on, and we decide to get some lunch while we waited. I remembered this place and seeing it on Unilocal. Off we go to Murder spelled backwards Burger! Lots of trees surround the older building. It looks like a classic burger shack. We go up to the window and check out the menu. I see other kinds of exotic burger meats available other than the standard beef. Ostrich, Turkey and Buffalo were available. We just stuck to the regular beef burger. We went for the ½ pound burgers with everything and cheese.($ 9.00 and change with tax each), and then we split a large order of fries($ 3.49). Fries are offered topped with chili and cheese and or BBQ sauce. Too messy, we stuck with regular fries. Drinks were sodas, Pepsi for sis and Mt. Dew for me, med size($ 2.29 ea). It worked out to about a $ 13 lunch each … seems a little high, but I hope the food is tasty! We wait a bit and then our food is ready. We sit inside and dig in. The burger comes with shredded lettuce, tomato and onion. My burger is pretty juicy as I open wide and take it in. Hmmm … OK, I get a little char flavor off the meat in my mouth, mixed with the lettuce and tomato. As I continue munching away at my drippy burger, the soft bun is starting to squish down and sog out a bit making it difficult to hold and eat without it all falling apart. Sis is having a fun time watching me, but her burger is dripping juices as well as she makes a mess on her face. The fries were a huge portion, we could have done with a regular order and been fine. I’ll say this is a good place for burgers, an independent business, not part of any big chain … going to Habit burgers nearby did cross my mind! Not super service oriented, like no one came by as we ate to ask if everything was OK, but no biggie, the food was pretty good. Maybe not the absolute best ever burger I ever had, but it was a decent burger and fries while we were killing time in Davis. I might not make a special trip to come here special, but I wouldn’t mind coming back if I was in the area again.

Really wanted to not agree with the poor reviews but this place has gone majorly downhill. It’s been a few years since my last visit but I recall it being memorable and wanting to return. Well I will never return again. Yes, the wait is inexcusably long, I would be willing to wait is the product was worth it. The«seasoned» fries were undercooked, the onion rings just tasted like grease and were inedible. And the burger was just bland. My patty tasted like water. Jury is still out on my Oreo milkshake…

Negatives — very dirty looking location with parking lot that needs attention; wait for food is TOOLONG(+20 minutes); burger looked liked one you buy frozen then cook(small patty, oversized doughy bun which I tossed, no taste), zucchini strips were literally dripping grease; this place use to be a GOTO spot, it has gone down hill. Positives — freeway entrance is close by; other better food establishments close by.

One of the older shops in town and I absolutely love it. Being a young second year in college, I’d often times drive by this place on my way to Teabo or South Davis… never really giving it a second glance because it looked like a joint that would give me food poisoning. Until one day, I heard about its history and made it a goal to try before leaving this lovely town of Davis. I finally decided to check this joint out and people are definitely right about the whole«don’t judge a book by its cover» sentiment. Although this place looks like it’s falling apart and not the most HIP and exciting place to be, the food sure has quality. I sometimes still crave for the burgers here and their pineapple shakes. OMFG. Redrum is known for having the ostrich burger and bison burger on their menu. I made it a vow to myself that I would try those two before graduating, sadly enough, I wasn’t able to fulfill that vow. Despite that fact, I love the burgers here. They’re nicely flavored and seasoned and you can customize it to your liking. The entire meal can be considered pricey, but it sure is filling. I always overeat when I come here… and I always want to accompany my meal with a pineapple shake, which makes it even worse Haha. The pineapple shakes have real pineapple chunks in them! I even come to redrum now and then just for the shake itself. Ugh, I wish I could find that kind of quality milkshake whre I am now. Give this place a try, even if you don’t enjoy it as much as Froggy’s or Burgers and Brew, at least you can say you experienced a piece of history that belongs to the beautiful city of Davis.

Waaaaay back before the chain burger joint was built across the street(across Richards… not Olive), there stood a burger place. It wasn’t fancy, nor did it have a presence anywhere but Davis. Yes, it took time to cook burgers to order because they didn’t keep a half dozen patties on the grill. The menu was large(still is actually) and the wait times haven’t gotten much better. But that’s okay. They make your food when you order it. It’s hard to believe I’m saying this, but new chains(such as the one across the street) are not better just because you can recognize them. In terms of flavor, MURDER burgers(pardon the pun) kill the chain produced burgers from across the way. Today wasn’t a burger day for me, so a chili dog was my order. It was cooked perfectly, then covered with chili, shredded cheese, diced onions and tomatoes. Because I didn’t hate on my blood vessels enough with that, I ordered a ZOOM which consisted of perfectly deep fried Zucchini sticks, OniOn rings and Mushrooms.(see how they did that?) Dunked those in some ranch dressing(provided) and I heard my cardiologist yelling at me from Sacramento. The window facing the street serves as a walk-up window when it gets busy enough… and it used to get that way fairly often… a loooooong time ago. I suggest that undergrads at least _try_a MURDER burger. It’s just across the street from your silly chain(behind the porta-coffee shack) and they taste better.

Had their 1⁄3 lb. burger and seemed like it had too much bread. The excess bread was peeled off and was not eaten since my diet consist of limiting carbs. There seems to be substantial amount of bread since their burgers are up to 1 lb. The fries are not recommended. Nothing special, just those frozen fries and are not fresh. They need to step it up on the quality to receive my recommendation. Bonus: if one has«burger coma» after their meal, a tasty coffee shop is just adjacent to REDRUM. Seating is limited, and the tables are small but there are outside seating. Bön appetite.

I miss Murder burger but it was just a name. This place has been here for ever(almost 30 years) and has had great burgwrs the whole time. I’ve been coming here for a long time, stopping to and from the snow in the wimter time and whenever I happen by in the hot months. It’s a classic greasy spoon burger joint. It is totally slow. If you happen to be in a hurry skip this spot. After we ordered this last time it took over 20 min to get our food out to us. For the most part I don’t stop here in a hurry, I usually need a break from the road anyhow. The menu is mostly for meat eaters with a couple exceptions. The have a veggie burger, a black bean burger, fried veggies and for the pescetarian the have fish and chips or popcorn shimp. Other than that it’s a meat driven menu. They have great burgers and great milkshakes. Did I mention the service is really really really slow. I wrote this whole review in just a portion of the time I had to wait for my food. At least they got it right this time. I’m giving it 3 stars because it takes forever. The food is good.

For 5 years ive been bringing my little sister up to UC Davis and during the fourth year and passing this olace numerous times I decided I had to try it. It has since become a staple for me when I come here to eat a burger from here. They have many different unique burgers aside from beef, they have Bison, Ostrich, turkey and during this last visit Kangaroo. I decided to get the kangaroo because how often do you see that on a menu. It was a very rich tasting meat and paired with their chipotle mayo it was delicious! This was my sisters last year at Davis and this was my final time up at least for the time being and grabbing this burger on the way out was a bittersweet adieu to Davis. Definitely will be back some day though for this place.

After hearing a lot about Redrum from my housemates, I decided to try it out. Pros: Cool diner style restaurant, lots of «cool» sounding things on the menu, variety of burgers, milkshakes, etc. Has a very chill atmosphere. Cons: I ordered the bison burger after my housemate telling me it was really good. It cost me $ 10.74. When the food came, my burger was not big, did not come with fries, and didn’t look like anything special. And when I bit into it, it was confirmed that this was a very ordinary, mediocre burger, that costed me twice as much as what I should’ve paid. Overall: This place is NOTHINGSPECIAL. I won’t be wasting my money here again.
