I am SOOOO incredibly thrilled that I’ve found my new go-​to hair salon gal !!!
I can’t write enough positive things about Kellie.
Having just moved to a new city in a new county, I was desperate to find a hair stylist/​colorist that I could feel comfortable with, easily communicate with, and have my hair concerns addressed. I was not graced with the ability to even come close to achieving the results that a trained stylist can do so effortlessly, so I actually look forward to my monthly hair salon visit because I know I will walk out grinning ear to ear and feeling like that L’Oreal girl in a commercial. Like many, I spent years buying all the products and trying the ‘do it yourself’ methods, only to end up with disastrous results. If you have one guilty pleasure, never cut corners on quality and go to someone that knows hair!
Being in that age range where my monthly color to cover grey is a must, I needed to find a person and a place where my criteria could easily be met and Kellie met all of my needs.
I wasn’t looking for fancy and pretentious, I’ve been to those salons. What I wanted was to find someone I could feel comfortable with immediately, a keep it real, non-​pretentious stylist that would listen, observe, take the time to show that she actually cares, and just know how to use the right formula to get my hair that perfect color to compliment my skin tone.
Kellie is the type of person that so apparently knows how to naturally just be who she is, someone that loves her work and knows how to make her client feel like she truly is the only person in the room, even if that is actually the case. Some people hear, but they don’t listen.
Some make idle chit chat, but it’s just that, a superficial experience. Kellie is none of these traits.
I have had my share of expensive pretentious salon experiences, having lived in L. A, S.F., Manhattan, and recently Marin. What I don’t need is a hoity toity experience or attitude, what I do need is to feel comfortable and know that I’m going to walk out of the salon feeling and looking great. While I don’t have the time to indulge in many of life’s guilty pleasures, I always feel good when someone just ‘gets it’ and ‘gets me’ and knows what will best compliment my lifestyle, features and be honest about it.
I asked around, I read Unilocal reviews, it seems everyone has a peeve about someone. Some need a receptionist to greet them, I don’t. Some need to be offered an espresso with a twist of lemon. I don’t. Yes, we are all different and what many don’t realize is that ‘you get what you pay for’ and for the type of quality product and professional service one would expect, do understand what it costs to run a proper business and get just that.
People that complain about price should not go to a salon as they can find cheaper alternatives. The reality is, salon prices are priced according to many factors. Stylists have overhead and expenses and have to make a living and while some places are truly absurdly overpriced, Sanctuary is one of those rare gems that is priced beyond what is reasonable, as Kellie was able to do what other stylists have charged me 50% more for and she actually has more experience.
Yesterday I had my first meet and greet and color experience with Kellie and I WILL be back, as a regular. My hair looked better than it has in months, my expectations were far exceeded, the pricing structure was beyond reasonable, and I appreciated the time spent on me, the attention to detail, and quality of products used. The conversation flowed effortlessly, my blow out looked phenomenal and my hair isn’t easy to work with.
Chemistry is everything when finding a stylist, someone you are trusting to cut, color and style your hair. If it’s there, you know it immediately. If it’s not, you shop around as there are plenty of places to go to. One of my bigger stresses about moving to Davis was finding a new hair gal, as this type of relationship is very important to those that truly have limited time and care about spending that time that is mutually invested. Kellie cares, loves her work, is honest and realistic and very skilled at her craft. I have literally no hair skills, I have the utmost respect for someone that does. I might know how I want my hair to look, but I truly have to rely on someone that is expert to make that look happen. I can’t magically create it from a bottle purchased at a drugstore.
Kellie, thank you. I did try a different salon a month ago and while the experience wasn’t necessarily negative, I knew that it wasn’t the right fit for me.

Kelli has been my go-​to gal for 8 years and she always keeps me polished. I appreciate her stylish eye and her ability to explain how a cut or color will work for ease and effect. My sister really liked her wedding style consultation — my gift as her maid o honor ;-)

I have trusted Kellie Palmer with my hair for 5 years now and felt it time to write a glowing review. What is it about the service Kellie Palmer offers at Sanctuary Salon in Davis? First, when you MAKE an appointment with Kellie, you HAVE an appointment with Kellie. She wouldn’t dream of handing you off to «an assistant in training» while she fits another client into an overbooked schedule. Kellie gives you her undivided attention. Second, Kellie is a master with hair color. She’s so good at color that she can look at your skin tones, find out what you don’t like about your current color, and then pick the best color. Kellie doesn’t hand you the oversized (and overwhelming) book of hair color swatches and ask, «Which one do you like best?» She doesn’t have to because she’s the artist and knows what will work for you and what won’t. Third, she is a highly skilled and technical stylist. I have lost count of the number of people who have commented on my haircut. It’s been only 2 weeks since my last trim and I’ve had 2 people compliment my cut and color. (Another reason I know it’s a fabulous cut and color? I can wear it for 3 days without washing it and still get compliments. Last but not least, Kellie is ALL about service. Her goal is to help you feel more beautiful inside and out and leave her salon feeling and looking like a million bucks and that’s exactly what happens! This was a surprise hit! I needed to get my hair cut and a friend took me downtown Davis to find a walk in appointment. Kellie worked with our schedule and took time to find out my needs. I am going through chemotherapy and my hair was coming out by brushfulls. Kellie had the experience to deal with this with ease and grace. She was personable, professional, did a gentle wash on my hair and gave me a cute pixie cut that will last and be easier to manage. I felt so much better and my hair looked healthier. What astounded me is that she wouldn’t accept payment, not even a tip. I respect this being customary for regular clients, but I was new and she made me feel like I was an old friend from the minute we sat down. Very down to earth, great stylist and worth loyal patronage.

The salon is beautiful, set back off the street, Kellie is an artist with color and has an eye for new hair styles and bringing out the best in your features.

My hair stylist of 12 years moved from the area and it took me 6 months and three stylists to find Kellie Palmer at Sanctuary. She is an excellent stylist (cut, color, straightening) and listens to you as well as offers great suggestions and tips. I get rave reviews on my hair locally and when I travel. I’ll be using Kellie for many years!

There are many great salons in Davis to choose from and many highly qualified hairdressers. She delivers what you want. She is friendly, funny and wow, can she relax every muscle in your tired body when she washes your hair! Love those scalp massages! SOOO wonderful to chat with an intelligent, engaging and witty hairdresser while you are being pampered. She has been cutting, styling and doing keratin treatments on my hair for years (I just figured out how to do a review on Unilocal or I would have done this years ago). My friends go to her and they are always thrilled, whether it’s a unique coloring or weaving or just a plain old time-​to-​get-​my-​mop-​trimmed. I usually go into her salon feeling tired and worn out and I leave feeling like a million bucks, looking great, with spirits uplifted.
I would recommend Kellie to teens, college students and everyone up to about the age of 100… in other words, whatever your age or sex, you will be pleased and you will return again and again. Her prices are very competitive and she carries a full line of the latest Bumble and Bumble products and more. Her salon is nestled in a lovely complex of quaint shops and restaurants. Just the thing to treat yourself to something really special!!!
