Compared to most restaurants in Davis, this place is definitely one of the better restaurants. I ordered the Omu Soba(which I definitely recommend) and the takoyaki. My friends ordered the curry udon and the daily special ramen, but they couldn’t stop stealing from my plate. The only thing that bothers me about Yakitori Yuchan is that they seem to be quite understaffed or inefficient. After ordering our food, my friends and I waited at least 45 minutes for our food. The people next to us came after and was able to get their food before us, but they ordered from the yakitori menu. My boyfriend visited the restaurant on a weekday night and said that the wait for the food was not as long. I’d probably come back for a weekday lunch/dinner to avoid the long wait.

~3.5 stars Food was good but service was bad. We ordered the rice cake with pork belly, the pork belly, and the garlic chicken skewers. The waiter who took our order seemed nice and helpful… but then he disappeared and no one came to check in on us. About 10 minutes later, our skewers came out one by one with about 5 – 10 minutes between each dish. Someone would just come and place it on the edge of our table and walk away. I enjoyed all of the skewers and would definitely recommend trying the rice cake one — grilled mochi wrapped with pork belly. Yum! Kind of expensive for 2 skewers per dish but eh, I was hungry. Our ramen took forever to come out — one waitress came by to start cleaning up our table but then realized we never got our food so she rushed off to get it ordered. Took almost an hour for our ramen to finally be served. Good thing we ordered the yakitori or else I might have gotten pretty hangry. Anyway, the ramen broth was nice and hearty — very flavorful. I ordered the Tan Tan ramen which had a nice kick to it. The toppings were meh — I thought the chicken breast was a bit odd but that’s because I’m used to having pork slices in my ramen. This place is worth a try. I just hope your waiter doesn’t disappear on you too.

Everything here tastes great but takes a really long time but usually im willing to wait Sometimes they jip you on beer. For instance, my pitcher of sapporo had 2 inches of space on the top. But they fixed the problem and topped it off for us. Every drop counts when it comes to alcohol!

Unlike the other reviewers, I don’t have a bunch of restaurants in LA and the Bay to compare this place to. I just know my whole family loves this joint. The staff are hella friendly and the food goes down a treat. Anyway, I just took down a few Orion beers, so I’ll sign off, but it’s five stars.

Good but could be better. I ate here with a couple friends around a handful of times and it is a great late-night joint to come by since they have good late hours to support any beer-crazed fanatic out late at night for the usual Davis shenanigans. As far as authenticity, it’s fairly good and authentic, the little skewers are quite tasty. Their idea of «Japanese tapas» goes a long way and their menu is quite diversified. The ramen is good but not great, satisfies the collegiate palate but not mine when Sacramento has much better and more qualified ramen. But again, it’s a college town restaurant. The price is decent, nothing gouging but to a college student, it ain’t exactly a Denny’s or IHOP. The interior is fairly well decorated and the ambiance is improved by their unique bar with«tapped» soju and other awesome liquors. The friend tofu is awesome and the chicken skewers are tasty. But again, I wasn’t exactly satisfied with their food. It was good… but not great. Will be coming back to give them another shot. If they lowered prices by a bit more then they could be much more competitive and I would give them 5-stars. But in the current situation it is not friendly to students and I empathize with the kiddos.

I’ve tried this place twice, but the second time was really disappointing. First time: around November 2015, my best friend and I decided to grab ramen since we were hungry on a cold night. I ordered the spicy ramen tonkastu and I thought it was really good! The broth was flavorful along with the spiciness made it more bomb! Second time: Went here last night again with my friends since we didn’t eat all day. I decided to try the spicy ramen shoyu tonkastu this time… And I was disappointed. The broth was super salty and there were lumps of fat everywhere so I didn’t even bother finish to my bowl.

I got dinner here for the first time tonight and fell in love! First of all, the ambience is amazing! From the décor to the music — it’s all perfect. I feel like I’m not even in Davis anymore. Second, the ramen and udon is great, most likely the best I’ve had in Davis! The yakitori is delicious as well. It’s pretty cheap, although the serving size is rather small compared to other places. Finally, the customer service is great. The waitress who served us was helpful in terms of helping my boyfriend and I choose choose between items. She was very detailed in explaining the differences from broth to items in the specific foods, making it easier for us! Great restaurant, give it a try when you get the chance! I can’t wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu!

Have been here twice now and both experiences were amazing. They were super busy both times as well. I don’t remember our waitress the first time, but she was awesome. I think she had some bright colors in her hair. Anyways, she explained things on the menu we had question about without any annoyance. People at our table were ordering all out of turn and sort of being pain in the asses but she put up with us with a smile! The food was bomb. Had probably half of the menu and it was all delicious. Smaller portions so you can drink! and great reasonable prices for everything. My last visit was just with my boyfriend, we sat at the bar and Saki and Daniel took care of us. It was even better than before! They were busy, but our servers never forgot about us. Thank you so much for everything!

The one decent place to get japanese ramen in Davis. I can’t speak for the other dishes though. The décor is lovely with the floating sake bar. Their waiting and kitchen service is always a little slow, so don’t expect to get your food right away if you are at hungry bear level. My friend and I ordered the tantan ramen, which is spicy tonkutsu broth. I love having lots of toppings: mushroom, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts on mine. It seems that there is way more noodles than toppings and meat though, which is filling but taste-wise, a little disappointing. Also, classic japanese ramen uses pork belly rather than chicken, which they probably use because it’s much easier to cook. If they used authentic pork belly and had faster service, I would give a 5 star. Until then, I’ll still stop by from time to time for a hot bowl of ramen, tempted to bring my own stash of bean sprouts.

I love this place! Everything that I have has been spot on. The Tokyo Raman special is really delicious(8.50). The Takoyaki, a fried octopus, is really yummy too. One of my other favorites is the Yakitori Donburi, which is a rice bowl with scrambled egg, onion topped with four chicken skewers. The Yakitori menu is fun to order off of, some of my favorites are the rice cake, take 5, garlic calamari, beef tongue, enoik with pork, Quail egg with pork and wasabi chicken. We also order the Kara-age, Japanese fried chicken, and it is really good. I would also recommend the Noratin Albacore, Spicy Gyoza, and Takosu! I’ve tried a lot of the menu and can’t wait to go back for more. I also think the waitress with colored hair is really cute.

Pretty good place located in downtown, davis! The weather has been getting cold and rainy, so a bowl of soupy, warm ramen sounded like the most amazing and comforting option for a dinner one sunday night. Although this place serves other foods(that I have not tried yet), we came here for their ramen since no other ramen place was open. The atmosphere was a lot nicer than I expected to be honest. We were greeted right away and sat at the bar(on really, really, really uncomfortable stools). It was busy and we did not want to wait for a normal table, so we sacrificed our butts to get our ramen fix. The selection of ramen was very small, granted this is not a ramen restaurant. They only serve chicken as the protein which caught me off guard because one of my favorite parts about ramen is the pork! We asked the sever and apparently they used to serve it, but not anymore, which is unfortunate. We went with SPICYRAMENTAN-TAN(tan-tan broth +chicken). All ramen comes with an egg. BUTWAIT. When they say«one egg» what they really mean is half an egg. So if you«order an extra egg» for 50 cents, you’re actually ordering an extra half. merp. I guess as a marketing tactic, it would be strange to hear, «comes with HALF of an egg!» We also ordered takoyaki and another tonkotsu based ramen that was the special for the night. We got our takoyaki first and it was surprisingly very good! The rest of our order took kind of long and when we got it, it was just okay. Good enough to hit the spot and fulfill my soupy needs, but nothing to note about. I’ve heard their food on a stick stuff is where the magic is at, but it’s a little overpriced and I have not gotten around to it yet.

Yakitori Yuchan is one of the better Japanese restaurant in Davis. I say this because I’m from the Bay area and I’ve had better ramen and yakitori. But yes, I say Yakitori Yuchan is the closest to being best in Davis. I came here this time for their Ramen and Omu Soba. First of all, their«tonkotsu» ramen doesn’t actually contain Tonkotsu pork slices. So that’s a downer. They put chicken in all their Ramen instead. But I can definitely taste the tonkotsu it in the broth. We ordered the Tan Tan spicy ramen $ 10, it was good! They serve it like any original ramen, with half boiled egg, bamboo shoots, green onion and the red flakes with egg ramen noodles. Definitely a pleasant plate to get during cold weather. We also ordered vegetarian Omu Soba $ 8, it’s basically stirred fried ramen noodle(not soba) with teriyaki sauce and vegies, wrapped in omelet style scrambled eggs. and it was really good! I didn’t exactly get my money worth because I asked them to take out the pork. But if it was good without it, I’m sure it’ll be better with it. The service is alright I think mainly due to the short staffing issue. And the ambience is actually really nice, definite take family or a date with you here! Tips: get water, they charge $ 1 for hot tea. Cheers!

Finally, a legit Japanese restaurant in Davis. I am absolutely a fan of this place. All the different plates I’ve tried here were delicious. I never walked out of this restaurant disappointed. I mainly get the Chicken skewers donburi and it’s amazing! The price isn’t too bad either. They have really yummy cocktails and the staff is super friendly! Definitely recommend this place if you’re craving Japanese!

Came in around 8 pm on Thursday night to grab a quick bite with a friend I was visiting. Tried the chicken 5 set or something like that. Basically 5 chicken skewers with 5 different flavor($ 9.50). I really like the salt and soy one. The chicken skewers were a bit small¿ but the flavors were there and they were all juicy ^__^ friend ordered ramen, and i tried a bit of it. It was okay haha. If you’ve had really good ramen then this would be meh. But if you’re feeling meh and need some ramen, this would satisfy. My friend really liked it lol. The waiter is very nice and enjoyable! Overall decent food with decent prices, décor is neat(tapas style), and downtown location is win-win.

Upon entering, you get tables in the front half of the room and a bar. Than you have a more private setting in the second half with private booths on the right and regular tables in the middle and left side. The staff was friendly and the owner I believe, checked on our food and how we were doing quite frequently! My friend and I ordered the pork belly to share as appetizers and my other couple friend had the Takoyaki. I didn’t get to try that one, but apparently it had BBQ sauce on it, weird? The pork belly came with onions and I thought that there was fat in between, but luckily it wasn’t! I appreciate that since Pork Belly is fatty, the pieces were thick and not skimpy! Nice mild flavor, but the pork belly was also tough to tear off with your teeth and difficult to pull off, not really worth $ 5 for two skewers though ? Again, I am not a ramen lover so I can’t judge it too much. The portion was great, but my meat slices was cold… But everything else was warm to hot, not really hot or anything for how I like my broths to be. It tasted salty after awhile. Decent for a $ 10 bowl for what you get though! Enjoyed the atmosphere more than the food, lol but that’s just me since I prefer udon over ramen!

The beef tongue skewer is a must try. Their other skewers are also pretty good. I wouldn’t recommend the takoyaki(squid ball). It’s 90% filled with flour. The service is very nice, although do expect at least 20min wait on your food.

Since my last review, I’ve come back a few more times when my friends wanted to come and I’m glad I gave this place another chance. The food hasn’t taken nearly as long each time I’ve been back. The chicken tonkotsu ramen here is delicious! It definitely satisfies my ramen cravings and hits the spot every time. It’s a must try if you like ramen! The broth is a little on the oilier/fattier side and is kind of too salty sometimes but it’s still so good regardless. As for the yakitori, the only one I ever order is the pork belly($ 5 for two skewers) since they’re all pretty expensive and I think it’s the only one that’s kind of worth the price. I suggest trying it at least once if you’re a pork belly fan.

I had been wanting to try this new Izekaya style Japanese place for a while. Glad I got it out of my system. The whole experience was alright. Nothing exceptional. I would give it four stars for just the food, but service and price definitely brings it down to a three star place. Food: quality of food was very good. We tried the minced chicken skewer with teriyaki sauce, BBQ albacore, and pan fried tofu. All were quite tasty with the chicken being the best. Price: pretty high for Davis. $ 5 for two tiny skewers. Skewers were way smaller than what I expected. Good thing we went here for a snack only. I’d probably need at least 6 skewers for a meal. Service: kind of slow. The restaurant wasn’t packed either. They brought out minced chicken skewer and pork with asparagus when he had ordered chicken and BBQ tuna. They took it back immediately and came back with the same plate saying the pork was on the house. That was nice of them but the pork had minimal flavor. The tuna eventually arrived and was good too. I may come back here for the ramen as there aren’t any good ramen places around, but that’s probably it.

Decent ramen, but the broth lacks flavor to take it to the next level. My noodles were still a bit tough so that was also discouraging. Service wasn’t too bad on Picnic Day and they stayed open late for customers. The meat skewers were delicious, would recommend those. The ramen needs pork or something too, the meat from the skewers had flavor. Ramen needs some too.

Yakitori is a trendy, hip restaurant that serves ramen and skewers. It’s a decent option for this area. My party all ordered one of the three ramen options. The broth was rather salty and lacked dimension. The noodles were a little tough and the toppings were nonstandard with some chicken, which was rather bland. No additional toppings like corn, nori, or sprouts were offered. Our server was also hesitant and wasn’t the most prompt or accommodating.
