I didn’t have the bar set very high when trying BBQ in Ohio… But this was a botched attempt all-around. The Texas style sliced brisket would’ve got you shot or worse in Texas. This was a boiled, flavorless slab of soggy meat. The rib tips were marginal… But over steamed and lacked any smoke or seasoning. The sauce… Was an unique blend of store bought molasses, ketchup and Worchester. The sides were likely bought pre-made at the same store. Lastly, the banana pudding was grainy. It had the texture of grits. At least the vanilla wafers had some flavor. All in all — I would only recommend this place if you loved mushy bland meat.

First time here. Unique small BBQ place. Very fresh. Decided on the pulled pork sandwich. Great flavor and fresh. The added Mac and cheese not worth the few extra dollars to me. Would stick simply with the sandwich and provided chips in the future. Great meal at a very reasonable price

I followed my nose to Smokin and my love of BBQ made me very happy to find this little joint. As I most always do, I went for the brisket. Unfortunately, once I opened up my carry out container I found myself saddened by the watery/greasy layer my chopped brisket was sitting in. Not to be detoured, I tasted my sauces and found them to be pretty tasty and put then on my meat. However, again I was disappointed. Tender cuts of brisket were nearly mushy and much of them very fatty. Past the point of melt in your mouth tender. Really not good. Sadly, the most enjoyable part of my meal were the green beans on the side. Even the mac and cheese wasn’t great, but tasty enough once I sauced it up. My advice, go for another choice than the chopped brisket. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

Like many places in Dayton, the clientele is quite the mixed bag during the lunch rush, so that’s always nice. You’ll get your business peeps and working folks of all colors. You’ll even get a few hipsters from time to time, looking around in approval through their thick, outdated glasses, thoughtfully rubbing scraggly beards as they waddle in too-tight trousers to seat themselves awkwardly at the counter. The food here’s good, and I’ve recently come from Texas if that kind of self-proclaimed BBQ endorsement is worth anything. I’ve had the brisket(sliced), which was pretty good. I had the pulled pork, too, and I have to say it held up to what I’ve had in Memphis and out west. The fresh potato chips are a top-notch addition to a quick, cheap meal. Service was VERY quick and friendly, food served by a pretty, blue-eyed gal who works hard to keep things moving in the tiny establishment. This place is great if you want good, inexpensive barbeque in an unpretentious atmosphere.

Went their for a take out meal for two. Have been a customer there for over 10 years and considered it a great place to eat. Not this time. The baked beans were placed into the takeout container straight from the fridge, the coleslaw was brown and the meat portion size on the sandwiches was no where near what it normally has been. The pickles and onions were put on the bread instead of the small containers they normally used and so the bread was soggy from the pickle juice by the time I got home. Overall the food was not good and the restaurant staff was not at all friendly. They changed cooks/grill masters about a year ago and it hasn’t been for the best.

Sorry Dayton — looks like you love this place, but didn’t do it for me. Maybe a bad night, but not a very good dinner. Got pulled pork with green beans, and mashed potatoes. The greens beans had an unexpected kick which was nice, but was so salty as to be nearly inedible. Like — as salty as those little green pickles. The mashed potato was basically that — take a baked potato, mash it without adding anything, and serve it on the place. Very dry and tasteless. The pork was good, not great. From reading reviews, I was expecting it to be dry, but it wasn’t too bad. Just didn’t have much flavor, and had the look of meat that was cooked overnight, or in the morning, and just held all day. Maybe it was just a bad night, but a solid 2 and that’s about it.

Probably the best BBQ I have found in Dayton! So juicy and so much on the menu. I drive by and have to stop almost every time. If you want barbecue this is the place to go. Good prices, great customer service! Tiny little place that you have to try!

Walked over here from Twisted Wing as it was difficult to get food that night(they were having their anniversary party). We ordered the chopped beef brisket and sliced beef brisket. The chopped was fatty but I really liked the chopped brisket even though it was on the dry side. Some of the better BBQ I have had. The sides were great however I don’t exactly remember what I got. Service was quick and to the point.

Great first impression. The brisket was tender and satisfyingly smokey. I only wish they had a spot in Akron.

If you take out of town friends here once, they’ll be asking to come back every time they visit. It’s not fancy, you can see some of the huge tin cans they get their beans out of while sitting at the counter, but it doesn’t need to be. Brisket, ribs or a smoked hamburger — you really can’t go wrong!

Had the brisket, rib tips, and wings. All were delicious along with the sides for the meals. I’d come back if I lived in this area

Excellent food and friendly staff– fresh meat that will not disappoint. 10⁄10 would recommend. I had the brisket sandwich. Also of note are the in house kettle cooked potato chips. This is a must stop if you are in the area!

I woke up last night extremely hungry and couldn’t go back to sleep because the stomach beckons. So I open the app to see what’s open around me and I automatically gravitate to this little gem of a spot. I immediately put myself together to head over for some pulled pork. It’s a little dive restaurant, whips up a very good pulled pork bbq. The meat is tender, the sauces(hot and spicy) is remarkably good and the sides I ordered were top knotch. No BS places like these get the front of the line pass on my list. I get my food, I eat it, enjoy it, pay for it and leave hella satisfied. Weeeeeeeeeee!!!

I grabbed some carry-out the other day from here for a late lunch. I like the style of the place, a small stand-alone building on a corner that looks like an old-time diner on the inside with chrome and leather stools and red counters to eat at. The service was friendly and it didn’t take long to get my food. The item that I really wanted to try was the smoked burger. I had seen it advertised previously on the outside of the building when I had driven past and had been wanting to try it. On their menu it claimed that were known for their brisket so I decided to try that too. Since I was splitting the meal with my wife I got the double burger which turned out to be huge. I would recommend the single for an individual since there is no way that a person could possibly fit the double in their mouth for a bite. The single burger is only $ 5 and while it does cost extra for lettuce, tomato and cheese I find the price quite reasonable for the size of the burger. The double was so big that me and my wife just took the burger apart and each ate one patty. It had a great smoky flavor which I have not found in a burger before. I really liked it and it satisfied my curiosity and taste buds. The only thing is that the burger was a little dry but that didn’t really take away from me enjoying it; I would still eat it again. You can add BBQ sauce to it if you want since he will offer you sauce when you order it. The sliced brisket was also real tasty but also a bit dry. But once again flavor was great and it was still delicious and sauce can be added, but in my opinion the sauce doesn’t taste as good as the brisket itself. I was given both sweet and spicy sauce and to be honest could not tell much difference between the two. The spicy sauce was definitely not spicy. I also didn’t find the sauce to be that tasty and honestly thought that both meats were better and tastier without the sauce. If I could have, I probably would have given them 3.5 stars; I went back and forth between 3 and 4. I like the place and would get food here again, maybe I will try their ribs in the future. They have all your standard BBQ meats and sides on the menu. I will eat their burger again because I don’t know where else I can get a smoked burger and I really liked the flavor.

This was my favorite BBQ place in town by far. Today’s visit was disappointing. Slow, unfriendly service, pork loin was tough. I’ll be back, hoping they’re just having a bad day.
