Chaat House

Since I’ve moved to ATL, I’ve been on the hunt for good halal Indian/​Pakistani inspired food and this was my answer. However, now that they have a new owner and have switched to serving meals on paper plates & utensils, I’m disappointed to say that the quality of service and the food went down. Bring back Chaat House.

This was my first experience of Pakistani food in the Atlanta area after Zayka and it definitely wasn’t a let down.
There were four of us at the restaurant and we ordered:
— Dahi puri
— Papri puri
— Mixed grill (seekh kebab, tikka, chicken boti and beef boti)
— Buffalo wings
— Spicy fries
Both the chaats were better than expected, probably as good as you’d find in the area. The mixed grill was tasty — the only complaint I’d have is that the meat was a bit dry and came with 1 naan (which isn’t ideal if the dish is meant to be shared).
I didn’t try the wings but my cousin seemed to enjoy them. I should also mention that they didn’t have enough wings to fulfill the order because someone had just carried out 6 orders of the wings — they’re probably that good.
The spicy fries were «not spicy, they’re Cajun,» according to another cousin. I think that means they were good.
The staff was very friendly, the place was clean but while we were there (around 8:00pm) there was only one other family. For the food we ordered plus a to go order, the total came to about $ 50. Not bad, I’d say.

Ok, so I was in the area and wanted something different. The few reviews it had were great and I love Indian food. So when I came in the service was friendly and the décor colorful. But when I saw the health inspector score (or whatever you call it) I gasped. It was a 74, which might as well be a D. I really can’t go lower than a 90 which is already pushing it and anything lower would be out of either starvation, desperation, or both. So I asked for a to go menu and left. So, I never ate the food since I am in no rush to get food poisoning or worse but I thought you should know the score (for those who care) before you get there starving as I was and get let down.

i was craving desi street food and this hit the spot. here is the rundown:
— dahi puri chaat: crazy good… wish i had some more right now
— mango lassi: incredibly good; also sold by the pitcher, which is awesome
— dahi bada: it’s good, but i prefer other chaat dishes
— chicken 65: different, but good; chicken is not dry like at other places; i like the rice it comes with
— chicken tenders with fries: not very pakistani, but good for people who want something not authentic
i want to come back and try more chaat items.

Chaat House reminds me of must restaurants in Pakistan– down to the décor, staff, and ambiance. It’s as close as you’re going to get to being in Punjab, without the ticket/​visa.
The food is quick to arrive at your table & the portions are fairly large. The chaat are perfectly spiced & as very fresh. The dahi puri is my favorite and it’s quite filling for one. The staff is very kind & there is quite a bit of seating. It’s very family friendly & with the prices so low, you’ll want to come back for more.
I haven’t tried their mango lassi yet, so anticipate an updated review!

Skipped by this place so many times because it looks like a small hole in the wall. I heard good things from a family friend and got some to go today. Absolutely delicious gyro and the best paan I ever had. Will stop by again when I am in the area.

I was able to sample a few dishes when I came with my family recently. First the namesake of the restaurant, chaat (Indian/​Pakistani/​desi street snacks). The chaat I’ve tried are the Dahi Puri chaat, Papri chaat, Pani puri and the mixed special. Of all the chaats I enjoyed the Dahi Puri and Papri chaat.
The chaat come with ample mint chutney, yogurt sauce and tamarind chutney it tends to be more sweeter than other restaurants versions but they are good nonetheless. There is plenty to share and they are refreshingly cold when served.
From the main dishes I highly suggest the chicken biryani, a rice dish layered with sauce, chicken, and vegetables that comes out fluffy, spicy, and so good. The chicken is not abundant in the dish and mostly has small bones with very little meat but the focus is more on the rice for the dish.
I also recommend the chicken tikka boti, which is a boneless version of the chicken tikka (red grilled chicken) that is served widely in most Indian restaurants. It comes straight off the girl, its spiced deliciously with warm buttery naan and a yogurt
Mint chutney sauce on the side, definitely a good dish.
They have a variety of dishes that are traditional meals as well as American diner type meals like philly sandwiches, chicken clubs, fried chicken etc. They seem to be good as well.
Very big dining area, with a prayer room for Muslim patrons and very nice and attentive staff. They also serve Halal meats. Definitely give it a try!

The prices are pretty good, but the food is ok. We had chicken 65. It was okay. not as authentic as we would have liked and there wasnt much chicken. The rice was very good though. We also had mixed chaat. It was my first time having chaat. didn’t care for it at all. But again, it was my first time having chaat, so its hard to compare.
The gyro wrap was ok… it tasted like it had been microwaved. The lettuce and onions were kind of wilted. The place is very clean and open inside. But compared to all the gyros/​chicken 65 and Indian food I’ve had, it was below average.

Dang i wanted to be the 1’st to review this place. I think i’m a pretty good judge of Indian food/​chaat, any kinda chaat and i’m all for it. That being said honestly the eateries in and around Patel plaza are BAD, so bad that i stopped visiting any of em. Chaat house– they recently opened and only found out after visiting they have another location in FL, always a good sign (multiple locations). Why i like this place.

One reason they may not do so well is accessibility. They’re located on busy Lawrenceville Hwy. If you’re on the wrong side of the St. you have to make a long U-​turn which can be annoying.
Try the desert menu– forget the name but there’s one for $ 5.50, enough for 2. Its creamy, cold, full of sweet goodies. You’ll love it trust me.

I had the samosa chaat which was delicious and the portions were pretty generous. I also ordered a 10 piece chicken tender platter which was pretty quick to make it to the table. The other reviewer said their fries were frozen. I think they are, but I don’t mind. They were seasoned really well and perfectly crispy.
Highlight of the meal was the mango shake (not the lassi, I didn’t try it). The mango shake tasted like it was made with real vanilla ice cream, which you don’t get a lot at Desi restaurants.
The service was courteous and prompt.
The upstairs seating area is comfy and a more calm than downstairs.
Good place for a family.

A new place in the plaza with Café Istanbul. I’ve been watching the development with an eagle eye waiting for them to open for about four months. I was completely confused by the addition of exterior photos of fried chicken, pizza and… gyros? Isn’t this supposed to be an Indian chaat house?
The menu has a bizarre blend of Indian, American, and lonely gyros. So in my dazed confusion, I actually ended up ordering a gyro. And a chai. And it was good. The bread was really fresh and chewy.
Cons: Fries are frozen crinkle cut covered in Cajun spice. Samosas were pretty greasy. Tandoori was dried out.
I’m conflicted because I like having access to late-​night food and take out close by, but with such a diverse menu, they are not able to get all of the items right.
It’s really a 3 with a bonus extra star for being open every day, all day.
