I have heard ladies say«Fuji has the BEST rice.» I dont share their opinion as the rice often tastes like a dirty griddle. This place makes me wonder about sanitary food preparation and handling. Let me explain. The entry way has a big fish tank. I was told once that you should run away from a restaurant having a fish tank inside. Besides, it was filthy with green algae growth… looked like it needed cleaning. The kitchen has curtains which every employee touches and brushes as they pass through the doorway. The curtains look dirty. The bathrooms are filthy and the doors were kept wide open to the bathrooms. The hibachi chef wheels your food including raw meat on a cart, uncovered, to the table. The meat may be on a lower rack of the cart, closer to the ground. I watched our meat brush against a guy’s jacket hung on the back of his chair as the cart was wheeled to our table. Yuck. The cooking of the food on the hibachi is done different ways; never the same way depending on who the cook is. The meat may be over cooked, or in our case on this visit it was undercooked. The cook may have sweat dripping off his face into your food, as our cook was a sweaty dude. The cook will serve you food then proceed to clean the griddle as you eat. Cleaning liquid will spatter toward you /your plate as he sloshes it around vigorously scrubbing the griddle. Sitting by the entry door can be cold and drafty. The hibachi vent hoods pull air out of the building and when doors open to the entry/exit, drafts of air blow through the place. Don’t go here in cold weather months. Premises has broken black glass on outside façade and is generally showing wear and tear and questionable upkeep. This further adds to my reduced confidence in the care taken at this business not only with the physical maintenance but the cleanliness and sanitary practices. One night my friends and I were having dinner. I went to the restroom and overheard my server complaining that he tried to get rid of us but we wouldn’t leave. We were just chatting for a while after dinner. Makes me think Rude waitstaff that just wants to turn tables. Food prices are very expensive and there are better places to eat which are also cleaner. The cooks are not very entertaining compared to other hibachi restaurants I have been to before. I’m not impressed. I only go here if friends or family mandate my attendance.

The finance isn’t a big fan of hibachi so we opted for sushi instead. Everything tasted mediocre. The sashimi was a bit dry and dull and the rolls were okay. We started with a soup and salad. The dressing was an odd mixture of light ranch and asian seseme ginger? Not sure, but my greens were drenched in it. The eel nigiri was probably our favorite. I kind of regret not trying the hibachi. The place is spacious. Great ambiance. Not too shabby. I think this was the only sushi place I saw while in Decatur.

I’m always disappointed with the food and décor. It seems that every time we go, something is broken(like the door handles). For the price, I expect better tasting dishes. Save the money and get better sushi and rice somewhere else.

Compared to the other dining options in Decatur, I’m giving this place a 4 star rating. By no means is it phenomenal food, but it’s definitely way better than going to a Applebees. Fuji is your typical Chinese food chain where you can get hibachi, any standard meal, or sushi. All the options are good, and you really can’t go wrong. My vote is probably for the hibachi meal because you can get great flavors all cooked together in a stir fry. Sushi may not be the safest choice when in the middle of Illinois… the ocean is really far away. Overall, a good place to go when you want some Chinese food, and likely my #1 destination in the Decatur area.

Great food, good show by the chef. Glad that we now have Fuji in Illinois. Columbus was the first one we visited.

All ya’ll better get over here and hit up hibachi or I’m gonna kick your neck off! There ain’t nothing better than gettin fired up with some real life Asian coozene. Me and my food lovin fanatics walked in here and sat over right by the grill! We didn’t know what hit us and ain’t nobody scared of us. Dat birthday girl got some chicken and fillut and it ain’t nothin but right on da money. The olé waiter was real authentic like and made us for some giggles. He was throwin food on dat grill and makin it reaaaaal nice. Filling up on real fried rice made it square but even better was den der veggies covered in da sweetest Decaturville sauce ever done seen. We put some Saki in our cups and sipped er on down. Listen. I don’t care who you are but you aren’t nobody doing nothin at all if you ain’t actin up makin up for some hibachi food out here at fujis.

Love this place. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, much larger than expected on the inside. Hibachi style cooking that is entertaining. My kids absolutely loved the experience. Food is plentiful and very tasty. There can be a long wait on weekends.

It was our first time an probably last. It was so very salty we must have had drank a gallon of water. The chef we had was skilled but not as entertaining as the others around us. Not impressed with having food tossed at me face he didn’t warn me then made fun of me in front of the whole table. Then they automatically add a 20% tip… I wouldn’t have given that much for.

The atmosphere is very pleasant with attractive décor, especially the fish tank! I love watching them prepare the food which is pretty tasty. The service is excellent and staff is friendly. Overall this is a good time with good food! If you get there before 2:30 the lunch special is only $ 10, it doubles after that. The desserts are good, and we were served an extra ice cream dish because it was our anniversary. Most people won’t be disappointed…

Just ate at Fuji. Exhaust fans don’t work. Service sucks, they don’t refill your water or tea and they add an automatic 20% tip. It sucks. Go elsewhere.

I came here on a whim with my sister and we had a really nice experience. With her in St. Louis and me in Champaign for a clinical, Decatur was a semi-midway place to meet to swap cars. We were able to be seated immediately and the price point was very affordable without compromising the quality. Not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but we definitely had a pleasant experience sharing 3 small rolls, including their sweet potato roll and one of their salmon rolls!

Environment is fun and entertaining. The sushi was surprisingly very good! The Sunni roll and sweetheart roll were some of the beat I’ve had; however the hibachi food was just ok. How many times do you have to cut open chicken to determine it is done? Trust me, it was done the third time you cut it open. One big tip, clean up the nasty front entry. Cigarette butts and gum all over the place… not very appetizing.

This was our first time at Fuji’s steak house. We went there to celebrate our daughter’s 16th birthday. We ordered sushi, Tempera, fried scallops, and another appetizer. All of them were very well done and delicious. All of us ordered from the hibachi grill and sat at one of the grill tables. The salads that we were served with the meal came with a ginger house dressing and the salad was very delicious and very fresh. Watching the chef prepare our meal was very entertaining. I would highly recommend sitting at the grill table. Our order included the fillet mignon, shrimp, chicken, lobster, and scallops from different people in our party. The lobster, fillet mignon, shrimp, and scallops were all amazing. I particularly liked the lobster. The meals are gigantic. We were also served fried rice and it was prepared in front of us. We also have the choice of fried vegetables, which I would highly recommend choosing as it is stirfry vegetables and went well with the meal. My husband ordered filtered regular sake. It was very good. I ordered a Mai Tai and it was delicious. At the end of the meal, they came out and sang happy birthday to our daughter and brought her a dessert. We will definitely be making a return trip to this restaurant.

I got the hibachi shrimp and steak with fried rice and soup and veggies my friend ordered the sushi special Cheap, fantastic, and good service However, the downside is the décor… the tables were opened during lunch and the booth we sat at was worn and old and it was… kinda sticky… yikes.

My all-time favorite place to eat at. The best way I can describe Fuji’s is «like Benihana, but 10x better». The fact that they don’t have a nation-wide chain and can only be found in the small town of Decatur is a real crime. The rice, steak, and chicken are possibly the best I’ve ever eaten. The rice, which is mixed in with egg and an assortment of other seasonings, is good enough on its own, but you can cover it in Fuji’s special«yum yum» sauce(yes, that’s what they refer to it as) to make it even better. The steak and chicken portions are kinda small, but they’re really juicy, perfectly marinated, and worth the price. I’m not a fan of salads at all and find most to be inedible, but even I enjoy the salads Fuji’s makes. The lunch pricing is a huge positive Fuji’s has going for it. For only $ 10.50, you can get a giant heaping of steak, chicken, rice, vegetables, and salad. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal than that. The rice and veggie portions are absolutely huge and almost everyone I know has to get a box for leftovers. It’s rare to find anyone who can eat that much food in one sitting. The one drawback is the dinner prices. Although you do get a little more food, the increase in price means it isn’t worth it. The same $ 10.50 meal I talked about in the previous paragraph will now cost you around $ 19.50 if you get it during dinner hours. Why the increase in price? I have no clue. The only extra thing you get in the dinner portion that you don’t get in the lunch portion is a bland-tasting bowl of soup, so it’s hardly worth paying the extra $ 9. Don’t get me wrong, the food is so good that I’d pay $ 19.50 if I absolutely had to, but when you can go a few hours earlier and get the same thing for a much cheaper price, why would you ever go with the more expensive option?

Love this place would give them five stars but there is so many places I haven’t been to yet. Great service and great food tho the four times I’ve been here. The interior design and décor of this place is really nice and much bigger than I had anticipated. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. I just started eating sushi last year so I’m kinda late to the game. I will continue eating sushi and telling you about it. This place would be great for a group of people to have a birthday party or celebration. It is a hibachi style grill so the chef keeps everyone entertained. I have to admit my girl and I always sit in a booth so I cant comment on the chefs. I did watch a birthday song and it involved 3 drums and I think 5 other employees. I might just keep the bday part on the dl, but go check it out you might love it.

The ONLY place you should be eating Sushi at in Decatur, IL. Service is a bit slow but overall the staff is very nice. The sushi is fresh and portions are great! The lunch specials are really good and definitely try the Ramen noodle soups, those are excellent and very filling!

I came in hungry and left extremely stuffed, my wallet did the exact opposite. This was one expensive date(plus it turned out she was more interested in another guy, broke my heart a bit), but the flavors of the food and the hibachi grill-side entertainment were more than worth it. I liked that they had authentic green tea as one of the beverage choices, as well as a few Japanese beers, Sapporo anyone? They have a fish tank by the entrance, I f****ng love fish tanks.

I was a little hesitant when we drove here and saw it was in a strip mall but since we were there, we figured we would give it a try. We were craving sushi, not the grill, and we were seated at the sushi bar since all of the tables were occupied. We got to see the sushi we ordered made right in front of us and it was tasty! I have not tasted the menu from the grill to have a complete review but if you’re in the Decatur area and are hoping for some sushi, this restaurant will satisfy. My review was knocked down a star due to the high prices, even for sushi.

DON’T EATATTHETABLES. We have visited Fuji several times in the last two years and have eaten at the grill every time and were very happy. However, we visited the restaurant last Friday and were very disappointed. The restaurant was busy but had several open grill tables. The hostess said it would be a 45 minute wait for the grill and the food at the tables was«exactly the same.» Against our better judgement, we at at the tables and ordered hibachi chicken and sukaki steak. I was shocked to see that the portions were much smaller, and we were very disappointed in the quality of the food. There is no way that we should have been charged the same price for less food of much lower quality. It was evident that it had been sitting in the back for some time. Grill: 4 or 5 stars. Until this visit, it had been very good food although it is expensive.
