The Dalmatian Rescue of Illinois is a class act, non-profit org with fantastic group of volunteers and a growing # of supporters. The DRI tag line reads …“Dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned Dalmatians” and I have seen them live up to that. They have placed over 300 Dalmatians in new homes, since 2001(including my current dog). When I was looking for a new pup in 2007, I had visited several shelters and rescue orgs. I was surprised that there was such a difference between how these orgs were operated. Some were pushing dogs on anyone that could make their mark on a dotted line and some wouldn’t talk to you unless you could trace your ancestors back to the Mayflower. From my initial contact with DRI, they set themselves apart from other rescues. I could see they put the needs of the animals first and acted in a professional and responsive manner when dealing with people. They wanted to be sure I would be a responsible owner and that I was matched with a dog that was compatible to my lifestyle. During the last 4 years I have followed DRI through their website and blogs as they rescued dogs of all ages from a variety of harrowing conditions across the country. Its amazing to see DRI in action. When a dog in need is identified, the DRI volunteers drop in like a SWAT team to be sure the dog is removed from peril. Many people in multiple states are involved to bring the animals into foster care and place them in forever homes. If you are considering adopting a dog(sometimes they have more than just Dalmatians), I suggest you contact Susan @ DRI. At the very least, you will see how a rescue organization should be operated.
