I can’t say it wasn’t great on the food I had but the service was on point as well as the view. I would probably would have to try another item in order to really get the best view on the restaurant to give a full grade.

The Poseidon is my absolute favorite restaurant, and I have been here at least a dozen times. We always sit outside, and the ocean view is breathtaking. The diver scallops are divine every time and the crème brûlée is perfect. Also the kuana coffee steak and the chicken are fabulous — I always have the scallops but my kind husband always shares a bite of his entrée with me. Wait staff is consistently knowledgeable, inviting, and attentive. This restaurant should have, at thr very least, a 4.5 star cumulative rating.

Romance, bromance, sismance or even dogmance… Poseidon is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The restaurant resides next to the ocean. The best place to sit is the patio area. I’ve experienced eating in the day and also at night time there. The late evening ambience is the best because the dinner crowd is gone. You can relax, drink, eat, see and hear the ocean waves.

Awesome view. You’re right on the ocean, enjoying the air. Valet parking, so it’s easy to get in and out. Across the street is public parking if you don’t want to pay for valet. Food is just ok. Actually, a bit sub par. But with such a great view, you don’t notice the food. I would skip the calamari next time since it was a soggy mess. I also had the wagyu sliders with waffle sweet potato fries and the seafood grill platter. Nothing stood out except for the awesome view. Make a reservation and wait for an outdoor table. It’s so worth it.

Went here for dinner with several co-workers. A nice atmosphere right on the beach. You can sit outside or inside and see the beautiful waves. Food was pretty good… Got the Surf & Turf with a side of the Brussel sprouts and Side of the cauliflower. Will definitely try them again sometime.

The location of this place — right on the sand — is what makes it. With a fantastic patio with plenty of space heaters and a great ocean view you can enjoy the soundtrack of the waves to make for a very fun and relaxing dinner. My wife and I couldn’t eat much on their menu while doing the elimination diet but the server talked to the chef and was very accommodating. The salmon was cooked fine — not overdone and dry like so many places do it. Too bad we couldn’t enjoy it with the regular sauce — we’ll have to come back and try that again. The service was great and really friendly. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meal and we would’ve more I’m sure if we could’ve eaten everything. Alas I’m leaving it with 4 stars because I really thought my meal was pretty overpriced for what I got. Oh well, I guess that’s what you get for the premium location.

Horrible service! We waited an insane time at the bar for drinks and an appetizer, neither happy hour items and you would think we were putting them out. We tried to order a second round and the guy literally forgot. They weren’t slammed just not in the right profession.

I’m updating my review to reflect a huge improvement in food over the last several years at Poseidon. Now we have the expanded beach patio and quite good food. The calamari, tuna tartar, and prawn appetizers were spot on during my most recent visit. And you can’t beat the ½ off wine night while watching sunset along the coast.

This restaurant does not allow Service Animals. Todd the manager, goes out of his way to be disrespectful as well. No view or food is worth spending your money here. Jake’s next door is more than accommodating ADA.Gov handles complaints

So split about this place Start with the good? This cauliflower platter is the best food I have ever had in any american restaurant — Whole piece of Cauli steak, with cauliflower purée, Creamed spinach, sauteed pearl onion and Brussels sprouts. Little spicy sauce on the side… Everything tastes like heaven. Unbeatable location right by the ocean Service was nice everyone there was friendly and helpful The bad… SUPER slow when I was the first one there. Took 20 minutes and I run out of time for lunch break Rocket salad looks good but there should be a little be more lemon and dressing to offset the bitterness or it would taste like medicine like it did — and it did not worth $ 10 FILTHY cups and pot

I rarely write reviews, but seeing that Poseidon got only 3.5 stars on Unilocal got me outraged so much that… To make it perfect, I need atmosphere, great service and exceptional food. And I am a bit spoiled because I traveled a lot and lived in Chicago, New York, etc. It all came together here. First, restaurant being so close to the ocean meant that I was even able to tolerate obnoxiously giggling lady sitting at a nearby table without the necessary and well deserved remarks that would usually come flying out of my mouth. Yes, it’s that good. The place didn’t look too stiff like some other upscale restaurants in the area. So you are not worrying about grabbing the wrong fork and making too much noise with your glass. I like upscale dining and the required good manners accompanying it, but life is too short to tolerate snobs. Next, our service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and knew a lot about food. I think his name was John or smth like that. The giggling lady kind of dominated the sound waves at that point. So sorry if I got the name wrong. Finally, the food… We tried their restaurant week menu for dinner. Wow. You can definitely taste the French influence. But without the boredom of traditionalism. Even tartar style appetizer came with a twist. Cheese plate which usually makes me snore came with a delightful jam that made me excited. Truffle celery silk was perfectly balanced and I am pretty sure that I will cry if they remove it from the menu. Desert… Peanut mouse with berries and perfectly caramelized hazelnuts made me reconsider my usual lack of respect toward peanut flavors. Yep. It’s that good. I don’t know why this is not a 4.5 Unilocal rating place. I really don’t. I absolutely loved little extra inventiveness of the dishes and the clearly perfected technique. So yes. Definitely a place for the next date night. Anniversary. And just«need to relax» evening.

Came here for a nice lunch, I noticed on the outside patio they have taken the tarp off making it look much nicer. We sat in a booth and we’re still able to enjoy the ocean view. I ordered a calamari steak Sandwhich, it was good, but nothing rave about. The steak itself wasn’t as tender as I would like and seemed overly crusted in bread crumbs. The bread overpowered the Sandwhich making it a bit dry. The fries were amazing, seasoned very well with the perfect crunch, not greasy at all. I tried the fish tacos and they tasted fantastic. Nicely grilled fresh with a spicy sauce and fresh veggies, loved. Our service was great and they came to the table the perfect amount, I water was always filled but the staff wasn’t over bearing. Can’t wait to come back for a great view with tacos.

This place is number one on my list of fine restaurants in Del Mar. Right on the beach. Very casual. Best hamburger in North County. My wife had shrimp on a skewer she loved it. Sit outside on patio enjoy the ocean. Been coming here for 30 years and just getting better

If you’re coming for the scenery… it is absolutely breathtaking, especially when the sun sets. The food is good, but not great. I liked the steamed mussels, very flavorful. Servers were good and attentive. I’ll definitely be back to try something different.

Really amazing view, one of few restaurants right at the beach, great sunset location! The food is very tasty and presented beautifully. I had the Caesar salad with shrimp, it was very tasty. The vegetarian skillet of my friend had an amazing cilantro hollandaise sauce. The reason they get 4 stars is that both times it took long to get silverware and to go box. Our waitress was very nice, it just seems like they are overwhelmed with number of tables.

Although I’ve been to Poseidon twice for dinner and once for drinks, last weekend was my first brunch experience at the beachside restaurant and it was nearly perfect! First, the setting is absolutely stunning. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful November day with the sun glistening off the water. Service was quick and our waitress was very understanding when we were waiting for our last friend to find parking. She kept checking in to make sure we were doing okay. Although the French toast sounded amazing, I decided I was in the mood for lunch rather than breakfast and ended up ordering the turkey club with no bacon. It usually comes on whole wheat bread but I upgraded to the croissant for a dollar more. The sandwich had a good amount of turkey as well as cheddar cheese(Swiss would have been even better), lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayo. I added some grey poupon for extra flavor too. The seasoned fries with a side of ranch was the perfect complement to the sandwich. The only small downside is parking can be difficult. There’s a $ 4 valet lot but otherwise it’s just street parking and that can be hard to find on sunny days. I’ve been looking for a good coastal brunch spot ever since the Beach House in Cardiff closed two years ago. Poseidon just may be the winner!

Went to Poseidon for brunch based on some pretty good reviews. There’s a nice affordable valet right in front($ 4) and the staff couldn’t have been nicer and more prompt. The location is beautiful, right on the water, and(since this is the real world and not the movies) has plenty of gulls who are all too eager to eat any shiny pad of butter that a careless customer will leave on an unattended table. The two of us ordered the oysters and two different benedicts to share. Oysters were good. Not much more to say. Seemed fresh enough, I suppose. The benedicts were served with cubed potatoes that were the highlight of the meal at «perfectly adequate.» The benedicts themselves, however, were kind of staggeringly bad. One was served with asparagus and crab: the crab was fishy and tart(which is fine, but unusual) and the asparagus didn’t blend with the crab flavor in the slightest; the other was a traditional slice of ham: it was cold, salty, and generally unpleasant. The eggs were poached well and the hollandaise was fine; those are hard to mess up, but points for getting them right. The food simply… didn’t work. It wasn’t interesting, warm, or flavorful. No character, no palate harmony, just«throw it out there, and they’ll eat it.» I’d go back for drinks and the view(which, to be fair, are excellent), but I’d be very hesitant to order brunch there again. I’ll update this if I ever go back for dinner.

Had diner @ the Poseidon two days in a row, second time with friends because the wanted to share the experience. Admittedly the environment does at lot for the place, but still an overall great experience! Our waiter Kevin did a great job entertaining. Food was well prepared, especially the scallops! And the classic cheese cake, just when you think you can’t eat any more! My only critique is that they were out of Veuve Clicuot Rose My Best tip: Half price on a lot of good wines Tuesday and Wednesday nights!

The worst experience ever! The service was the slow, the Bloody Mary not good and the ceviche not only bland but had a parasite or worm moving around in the shrimp. A PARASITE!!! The server said, oh it just a vein. That normal. It’s normal for a vein to move??? The manager apologized after I puked and said he isn’t serving the shrimp/ceviche today. I hope the health department comes by!

Great view. Take the outside seating. Nice looking place with nice people who serve. Food was of big quantities and everything — Coconut shrimp(little sweet though) — the cocktails — the wings(awesomeeee) — chicken quesadilla — the oysters tasted great. They have a valet(4 $) and don’t forget to take cash!

Just wrapped-up dinner here… What can I say? The food was amazing. The view was amazing. The service was amazing. Above all, The company I had was amazing but that’s not Unilocal-able… Yet. We had the Chilean Sea Bass, bruss-sprouts, surf and turf(Sd Restaurant Week special), scallops crudo, the mud pie(because the RW special dessert was just bleh for us– many others didn’t even mess with it or finish it. We tried but just said screw it and ordered the mud pie– which was off the chain good). It was very pricey but when the food is awesome and the ambience matches it, the price just fades away.

Gorgouse views, amazing drinks and our pistachio crusted Brie and crab cake appetizers were good. However the main course of scallops and seafood linguini were boring and uninspired. In a nutshell overpriced bland food with an amazing view. I will only come back for appetizers and drinks. Valet parking available for $ 5

This place has some awesome Drinks, a great menu and some really fantastic views from the patio. Have been here for drinks and appetizers several times and have had a great experience each time. The ambiance here is awesome and this place has a pretty dope vibe to it that makes you wanna come back. As far as apps are concerned, the ceviche and the Kobe sliders are awesome, paired with a gin n tonic. Overall, I’d recommend this place for a happy hour or nice dinner along the beach. Pros– Service Ambiance Ocean views Valet parking– $ 5 Drinks Menu Cons– Pricey Tough to get to Food is just meh

Hands down one of the restaurants with the best views in San Diego — exceptional. God is good! Strive for patio seating if you can. You’re literally right on the beach! Dined here for lunch with a few co-workers and enjoyed the breeze, watching the surfers, and pretending we didn’t have to go back to life. There wasn’t much to choose from on the lunch menu, but I ended up ordering a Rocket Salad(with crab) and it was delicious. You can get it with chicken or shrimp as well. Excellent dressing. I ordered an Arnold Palmer that sucked, but those are typically hit or miss. Stuffed from lunch we decided to order and share the trio of sorbet which I thought was just okay. It kind of begin melting faster than we could eat it. The portion is more for an individual, rather than shared, but whatever. Did I say my salad was delicious? :-) I highly recommend dining here at least once. I can think of many out of town relatives who would love this place. I’m coming back! Much better than Jake’s next door.

Oh Poseidon, how the view is just what I wanted. But the food was mediocre. Location: Beautiful, right on the beach! A wonder 360 view of awesomeness! They do provide Valet parking, but unfortunately when we arrived for a work lunch the valet parking lot was FULL! Street parking was very limited and parked across the street in the lot. BTW– cost $ 15! Décor: Pretty roomy place with a bar to the right. Also lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the view of Del Mar beach. The bathroom is located to the left of the entrance. The bathroom décor is pretty nice. Food: Quite expensive if you ask me. I ended up getting the seared ahi tuna with sesame seeds with a side of ginger and cucumber spaghetti. Cost was $ 16 for a very small lunch portion. So you can imagine how much the actually main dishes were. The ahi tuna was very delicious, but probably wouldn’t order again since it was kinda pricy. Service: It was okay. We had reservations at 12:30pm for 13 people and were seated out on the patio. The waitress took our drink order and asked us when the other were coming in our party. We were not very sure since all of us were driving separately. She proceeded to tell us that we had to get our order in before 1:45pm and need to leave the restaurant by 2pm because they had to prep the restaurant for a private party. WTH? Really so we only had an hour and half to order, get out food and head out. Not very well planned by the restaurant if you ask me. I had wish they told us when we made the reservations. Because if that was the case, we would have picked another restaurant.

I came here with a big party and I got to try a lot of different items on the menu. For starters we ordered the fried camalari and ceviche. Both are pretty decent, giving me high expectations for the entrees. For the entrée, I ordered the fish taco and I got to try other things like the crossiant sandwich and pancakes. The fish taco was not impressive at all. The filling in the taco is just all over the place and its just not in harmony with the fish. The crossiant sandwich and the pancakes were much better, but tbh its really hard to mess up those two. I would give this place a 3.5 star just solely on food because I didn’t really enjoy the fish taco that much. However, the view and the vibe here are just really nice and bumps it up to a four star. I really enjoy the atmosphere of eating here and it makes me want to come back for more.

Met some friends here on a Friday night. Made reservations for a party of 8, but 2 cancelled at the last minute, so this was for a party of 6. Parking: There is a valet in front. Valet seemed a bit disorganized, upon arrival. It took longer than expected for valet to come get the car even though I saw them standing at booth(they waited for group in front of us to get in their car to leave, before coming to get the car; considering, there was someone in a walker who had to get in the car, this took a little while. Valet could have easily taken our keys, while all of that was going on, especially since, there were 2 cars behind us waiting to valet, too). Host: Upon arrival, they asked if my group wanted to sit inside or outside. I asked my group(sitting at the bar) and they said outside would be nice. When I told hostess, she said that it would be a 30 minute wait. What? So, of course, I opted for us to sit inside. Seemed like they should have told me that at the get-go. Our group was seated at a table and we were pretty close to the tables on either side of us(meaning we couldn’t back up our chairs very much). We were far from the windows that showcase the gorgeous view(bummer); restaurant illuminates the shore/ocean at night. Server came by pretty quickly, and those of us who hadn’t ordered drinks, place our drink order. My friend’s Peartini looked delicious, so I ordered one too. Also, asked for bread. Peartini & bread were brought quickly. However, my peartini had a large rind floating in it. Not a pretty shaved rind, but just a huge chunk. Not aesthetic at all.(attaching pic). Started with ½ dozen raw oysters. Oysters were good, BUT they threw a plastic bag of crackers on top of my oysters. Seriously? I have never had a plastic bag of crackers on top of my oysters; I’ve had crackers given on a separate plate with cocktail sauce, but never sitting on top of the big ice tray & oysters. Entrée: I had the Wasabi Sesame Crusted Yellowfin Tuna. Very good. Dessert: Butterscotch Choco Martini-good. Service: She brought out food quickly, but she seemed annoyed or overwhelmed. Not sure what was going on. Restaurant has potential, but needs to work out some of these quirks.
