What a great surprise in Delafield. Not your typical American Mexican restaurant! Great menu variety, fresh made desserts and fabulous coffee direct from the owner’s coffee plantation. Hispania is not your typical US Mexican restaurant with piles of food covered with cheese and sauce, so I don’t consider it a value restaurant, but great Latin American cuisine at a reasonable price for an upscale establishment. Have now dined at Hispania multiple times and if you like spicy be sure to ask for one of their spicy margaritas made with fresh lime juice and spicy tequila. Best margaritas in Wisconsin!

My husband and I walked into Hispania at about 8:30 on a Thursday night. We were immediately greeted with authentic live Mexican music filling the restaurant. The host greeted us warmly and offered to seat us. Before we sat down I noticed there was only one other couple eating and I remembered they closed at 9. I felt bad and asked the host to make sure it was okay for us to eat. He went in the back and came back immediately and assured us it was fine! Looking at the menu, we were talking about getting tapas, but I thought that might be asking a lot from the kitchen this late, so picked something simpler. Our waiter insisted we get whatever we want because«you are the customer.» What a refreshing response! He gave us a ton of recommendations and we ended up getting 5 tapas to share, our favorite being the bacon/shrimp/steak skewers. I get the feeling this is a place where everything on the menu is fresh and good! Yes the prices are high, but the ambiance, food quality, location, service, and commitment to sustainability match the prices! Do not go here for a cheap meal. Go here for a culturally engaging, delicious tasting, experience. Also the cucumber margaritas were great! Highly recommend. We will be back.

Fresh food, fantastic service! Our server went above and beyond to accommodate us, including our 3 year old. The chicken tostadas had a great fresh flavor and crunch and I’d highly recommend them. The guacamole is made fresh as the table and very favorable.

Stopped into this charming little village-type town for a walk down memory lane. Had been at the St. John’s summer camp in the early ’60’s. The school obviously sold the property to support the main campus, which is understable. On the way out, I was hungry and wanted a break. Found this restaurant and grabbed a Dos Equis and some tapas — really great! Seared scallops in a light cheese sauce, Spanish ham on small toasts drizzled with olive oil and pork scallopini with a light orange sauce and sautéed oranges and rice. Bill was about $ 35 plus nice tip. Was there early, had a chance to meet the owners and staff – all great. Some local and some Spanish. So… who knew? Great find and an easy drive from Milwaukee, about 20 miles, again to a charming village.

Jessica is great server. She even made our tableside guacamole. The idea of our small quesadillas was fun and the pico de gallo was so fresh! If I’m ever in the area again, I’m coming back.

This is my 2nd time to this place! Absolutely love it. It’s what you would call a Latin fusion restaurant that combines Mexico, Chiapas, and Oaxaca cuisines. To start out with we ordered the Mango and Cherry Pomegranate Margaritas. They were small but potent For the appetizer we ordered the beef and chicken empanadas. These were actually really good. For the main courses we ordered small plates to get a variety of flavors. Spicy Lamb Meatballs, Tiger shrimp with cheese and special sauce and beef short rib with mixed spicy vegetables. Let me tell you that each of these were delicious!!! For two people you will spend about $ 65-$ 80 but that includes appetizer, 2 drinks and three small plates. I’ve been here twice and would definitely come again.

I can’t brag about this enough. My wife and I went there for lunch in which we were greeted by a gentleman who turned out to be the owner which is name is Juan. We started out with fresh made guacamole which was excellent and then had their enchiladas which we split, we didn’t want a big lunch. My wife also had the sangria which was also very good. The ambience was beautiful with beautiful pieces of art on the walls. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner. A woman served out appetizers and dinner in which later we found out not only is she Juan wife but also the pastry chef. Juan also had a three piece band playing which were very good. For dessert we had this chocolate cake and a warm apple that was cut perfect to a rose where the apple petals were spread out perfectly. It actually looked like a piece of art. Juan and Natalia make you feel like your part of the family, that is how warm they are. We live in Illinois but visit Wisconsin frequently, in April we will be heading at a place 20 miles west of Delafield then another time in Milwaukee in which I assure you we will be going back both times we are up there. Juan and Natalia, we want to thank you again for your warm and gracious hospitality and let’s not forget you wonderful food. We will see you again in the very near future. Rodger

Fantastic, inviting and personalized service. I felt like they cared that I had a pleasant evening catching up with a friend. The tostadas de carne and cherry pomegranate margarita were delicious, but the coffee and tres leches cake were simply out of this world. The restaurant is a bit pricier than a casual dining restaurant, but provided a really cool setting and top notch service to compliment a great meal. I’ll be back, for sure!

Pretty disappointed. $ 7.00 for chips and salsa. Shared a pitcher of sangria with my husband and it was pure sugar. I had an $ 8 cup of black bean soup, chicken skewers, and husband had steak tacos(4 mini tacos with no garnish or ramekin of rice or beans). It felt like we paid $ 100 for mini tacos and a chicken skewer. So not worth the money. We wont be going back. We can share a Rib Eye Steak at Kurt’s steakhouse which is way worth the money!

I have dined all over the world. This place is a hidden gem that if they were transported to Beverly Hills could charge double the prices and have a waiting list to get in. The food is presented in an outstanding manner and their home personal recipes are outstanding. If you go expecting typical run of the mill Mexican Food, this is not the place. Instead it is a fine dining experience with a wonderful number of options. The wine list is outstanding in terms of value and you owe it to yourself to have Juan make you a margarita. I highly recommend them.

I was in the area visiting inlaws and it was my sister-in-law’s birthday, so I made a reservation here on a Saturday night for ten people. When we arrived, the restaurant was festive with Christmas décor, which was cool, and our table was ready for us without having to wait. There was a live band playing soft music, which added a nice touch. They even sung Happy Birthday to our table towards the end of the night. We all ordered drinks, but I chose to stick with a glass of wine. I did taste their Cosmopolitan, and it tasted like a sweet koolaid. It was a real pleaser of the group since not many of them were drinkers. The chips and many salsas were great. I believe we had about 4 different salsas to dip on throughout the beginning of the dinner, some spicier than others. It was a good thing we had chips and salsa because the service was extremely slow. We also ordered an appetizer tray of queso, pita bread, sausage, and beef links. It was a great option for a large group since there was a lot of variety and I approved of it all! For my entrée, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. This could have been an amazing meal, but unfortunately, the green sauce they drenched the fish with was so sweet that it wasn’t enjoyable. The sauce ruined a great dish. I also had some of the Crab stuffed Flounder from their Specials menu and it was wonderful. The best part was tasting the fish, crab, and mashed potatoes on the plate all in one bite. For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Tart. If I didn’t have such a sweet tooth that night, I wouldn’t have ordered anything because none of their options looked interesting. The tart was ok, but I would never order it again. If I’m going to waste the calories, it needs to be worth it. The tart was boring, not very sweet, and the texture was not on par. By the time we left, the restaurant was half full. The group liked the dinner overall. It’s also in a cute shopping plaza that made the restaurant have such a welcoming feel.

My wife and I tried this place for lunch. It wasn’t that crowded. Classy, calming Spanish music. Quality décor. Overall good atmosphere. The owner(I believe) waited on us. You can tell he really cares about the quality of the product; it shows. All of the food and beverages had excellent presentation. Classy. My wife had a sangria(which I also tried). Freshly chopped fruit contributed to its quality. «Fresh» really is the theme here. All of the ingredients used here are fresh. The owner told us they don’t have a microwave or a freezer. Everything prepared right then and there. We had their empanadas for starters: great. My wife had chicken enchiladas that looked amazing. I had a seared tuna sandwich. Great. To top it of, coffee. I don’t typically order coffee after a meal but I’m glad I did. After we ordered some it took a bit of time. Honestly some of if not the best coffee I’ve had. The owner said its his grandfather’s recipe. Creamy, smooth. Again, excellent presentation as well. Please give this place a try.

Hispania has outstanding food — Refined, upscale and authentic — yet at reasonable prices. Everything we’ve had, from the drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert, has been phenomenal. Good, friendly service and a very welcoming owner(Juan). The next time we come, I’m planning on(finally!) trying the sauteed octopus dish. Then again, I almost did the first time we came… And the second time. The problem is, everything else is so good that it’s really a struggle to finally settle on one specific entrée. The first two times we came, my entrees were the chicken tostadas(best ever, as another reviewer stated) and then the duck tacos the second time(«tacos de pato»). Believe me when I say that these duck tacos are one of the single best things I’ve ever had at a restaurant. They’re very simple, but absolutely packed with flavor. The duck meat is tender, the tortillas warm and soft, and the mango-tequila-habanero sauce complements them perfectly. Furthermore, the appetizers are out of this world — particularly the chicken and beef empanadas and the flautas, and, like others here have mentioned, Hispania has possibly the best tableside guacamole you’re going to find anywhere. The only dessert we’ve had here so far(every time we’ve come — it’s that good) is the tres leches cake. It’s difficult to put in words how good it really is — sweet, creamy, loaded with flavor(but not«too sweet» or overpowering). Seriously, try it — You’ll be glad you did. Hispania has fast become one of our favorite restaurants — not just in the Lake Country area, but anywhere. Here you’ll find great people, from the bartenders to the waitstaff to the owner and his wife(the head chef), and you’ll have one of the best meals ever, regardless of what you end up ordering.

Had an absolutely perfect meal here. I live in Chicago but was in town having dinner with the future in laws. Coming from the city, I’ve had Latin fusion a few times. This place can hang with the very best. I was honestly surprised to get great Latin fusion food in suburban(ish) Wisconsin. Definitely get the guacamole and the tres leches. Service was great too. I’ll be back.

Fresh ingredients and varied menu. This place is well ahead of your standard Mexican restaurant. The ingredients and spices are prepared in a way to maximize the flavors of both, not simply blast your taste buds with how hot it can be.

There’s nothing authentic about this place, the food isn’t made from scratch you can purchase the same ingredients from the store. They are understaffed, we wait about 1 hour to get our food, the waiters and very friendly though

we went on a Monday that got(what I assume was) uncharacteristically busy. We ordered the tableside guacamole and it was great. Our service was great despite how busy it was. My wife and I both had different soups that were delicious and I had the Asada Norteno which was wonderful and full of flavor. I wish I had room for desert that night because I saw another couple sharing one and it looked amazing. We’ll be back for sure. It was well worth the drive to the middle of nowhere(no offense, lake country dwellers)

I couldn’t give a more glowing review of HispaniA. Thanks to Unilocal(and by that I mean the fantastic UnilocalERS who populate Unilocal!!!) I located this place as a good go between meet up spot with a friend. I made a rez but opted for the bar since it was so darn comfy and cool there. Our bartender, who’s name I didn’t get in the midst of all the conversation, did an excellent job and was extremely friendly and hospitable. My chicken tostadas meal was excellent. Among the best I’ve had, personally. Keep in mind folks, this isn’t Americanized. You aren’t going to get super-sized portions slathered with lard coated refried pinto beans(not that anything wrong with that — this just isn’t it). And that’s why I appreciate it. The food is higher end Mexican(some fusion) and the quality of ingredients — lets just say you get what you pay for. Please check out their website for more details on the quality ingredients. We got the great pleasure of talking for some time with Juan, the owner. With great enthusiasm he discussed with me mezcal, tequila, how they were made, the similarities and differences, etc. He was such a pleasure! Please ask the staff questions! Don’t be afraid to try a new tequila or mezcal sample! Some things are different, at first, buts it’s amazing how a palate can develop :) Great time!

Great ambience and you are immediately greeted by very friendly staff. This is not your average Mexican Restaurant but truly a Latin Fusion masterpiece. the margaritas are outstanding and even the beer was served in a glass that seemed well thought out. The cold chorizo and queso appetizer was outstanding. Asparagus soup over scallops??? Are you kidding me??? Amazing. Carnitas stew was incredible as were the tamales. Finally, the owner was working as briskly as the staff and stopped by to ask how our meal was. His wife is the chef! Very nice. We will be back.
