I called them on 11÷18÷15 and the number was no longer in service. The place could closed.

Closed and out of business. There is a «For Lease» sign on the front window and the place is vacant.

Tried the vegetarian plate and was disappointed. The vegetables listed on the menu as sauteed appeared to be a frozen veggie medley cooked in the microwave. The chicken with mixed vegetables was tasty but shared the same vegetable mix. The lechon asado was salty. White bread toast was not very garlicky. Nice atmosphere. Decent but not spectacular service.

Do not come and eat at this place. There were cockroaches all over the walls and tables and when I made this aware to one of the managers on duty, all they could offer me was a free coffee and asked that I still pay for the meal. The bland typical food that anyone with a pair of arms could make dose not help either.

We had just moved to Delray and found this little gem in a strip mall. Nothing to recommend it from the exterior but we love Cuban food and Zucra is close to our new home. What a pleasant surprise, The interior was intimate and felt like a Cuban family restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was first rate. Great plantains, rice and black beans and everything else was just delicious. We have gone back several times and are very happy to have found Zucra.

I went with my family of five and the experience was awful. We went at 6:30 and there were only a couple of other diners there. My father had a 20 percent discount coupon which the waiter stated he would apply to the bill which he forgot to do until I reminded him when I received the check which left it out. We ordered one appetizer the Tostones Zucar which were tostones which wer layered by bacon, cheese, and one shrimp. This was a quickly forgotten mess which had no seasoning and very fatty bacon which had been lying around for a while. We also offered a carafe of sangria which was watered down and only had one fruit in it which were pieces of oranges. This had no flavor whatsoever. As the entrees were being delivered, the waiter who took our order disappeared. My father explained to this waiter how he wanted his black beans served to the waiter who took our order and he stated, there was no problem. The waiter who delivered the food ignored this and when my father complained about it, he had an attitude. If the food was good, I could deal with this. But the food was not even mediocre. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and living in NYC, I can tell you I have had much better ones there. The bread was soft, there was little pork, and there was no flavor. My wife had the ropa vieja which was greasy and a small portion. My son had the Churasco which was paper thin, well done, and had gristle on it. By the time we finished we realized that this was the worst Cuban meal we ever had in Florida and we have frequented many restaurants so we have a frame of reference to judge by. The check came out to 104 bucks and when I reminded the waiter about the 20 percent discount, it came out to 83 bucks which was certainly not worth it. The worst meal I have had this vacation and I would not be surprised if the place is out of business when I come back to visit my parents next summer.

Terrible group experience. This review is for our group of 14. We called a day in advance to see if we could set up separate checks, and they said YES. The birthday girl is a regular at this place, and knows them, so we figured it would be a great place to take her. When we arrived, we reminded them that: 1. We needed separate checks 2. We all brought cash(which is what they suggested when we called in advance) 3. We wanted to get in and out in 90 minutes, so we needed to order right after being seated All of the above became a pain in the butt. I handed out menus to our table to save our server time. The birthday girl in our group went up to ask them if they could take our orders, but it was a solid 10 minutes before we could get the server back. The food — that was the good part of this. HOWEVER, two in our group are vegetarians(I’m one of them). My co-worker ordered the vegetarian lunch. I ordered a small house salad and side of yuca. When it was time to pay the bill, we had to again negotiate separate checks. Only ONE server was assigned to us, and he did not break our orders into separate checks. I was given a bill for the vegetarian meal, and when I told him I didn’t order that, I was told, «That’s what you get.» Rather than arguing, I paid the bill, but left no tip. So, our server got nothing from me. Instead, the«house» got it. What would have been his tip, ended up going to the«house». Another co-worker asked for change, but the server didn’t want to give him any. He was going to get a 20% tip, so rather than continuing the argument, my co-worker demanded his full change and left nothing. Why on earth did the server not want to give him his change? Unbelievable service from an establishment that gets relatively decent ratings. I must say that out of our group of 14, 9 people were native Spanish speakers… so even any amount of translation and communication in Spanish didn’t even help. If you’re in a group, this is NOT the place to go… ever!

I tend to compare and scrutinize almost every restaurant I go to. It helps me gain appreciation of these places and puts things into perspective. Zucar(née Azucar) is pertinent Cuban café in West Delray. There aren’t many like it in the area, especially since the Cuban café on Military closed some odd years ago. So by default, it’s really the best and only option out west. I ordered the Pollo a la plancha which is always a safe bet for lunch. The chicken was tender, a bit bland but a sufficient portion to say the least. Their rice and beans were decent as were the tostones. The staff seemed overwhelmed at lunch but it wasn’t bad service, just not as attentive as I’m accustomed to. Overall, I’d go back but I wouldn’t go out of my way. Being 10 minutes away from Boynton’s Guarapos makes the decision easy.

Love this place. GREAT special steak and shrimp. Squashed bread they bring is different but good. Nice home made sangria. Never been crowded when we went. I think its just a little under the radar, as it is in the corner of a plaza behind Poppy’s in Delray, corner of Military and Linton. Check it out!

Tasty Cuban food with excellent service. The prices were reasonable too. The three of us passed on appetizers Good thing bause the portions were huge. The Lechon Asado was very moist and plentiful. I have had this dish elsewhere and it tends to be dry. I shared the Cuatro Amigos with my daughter and we each ordered a dinner salad. The skirt steak was tender and full of flavor. The pierce of rib was HUGE, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of fat. The chicken was not over done, tender and juicy. There was one link of spanish sausage cut lengthwise again, great flavor. Both dishes were served with rice(choice of 3, white, yellow and al azucar), and beans. We had yellow rice and my Mom had the Al Azucar(brown rice, olives and raisins and a little sugar, very unique and yummy). Azucar will be seeing us again for sure!

Azucar has pretty good Cuban food. I’d actually give them 3.5 stars if I could because while the food is more than serviceable, it’s not great. The appetizers are very filling so I only order them when I’m really hungry. The tostones Dona Marina is 4 servings of tasty ropa vieja sandwiched between two crispy tostones. We almost always bring half of this home. The tamal cubano is a large and flecked with tasty bits of pork throughout. It comes with a rich, delicious cilantro dipping sauce. The yuca rellena is a fried potato ball stuffed with ground beef — and not enough of it. The churrasco steak is always a reliable choice and is served with a generous portion of rice, beans and plantains. The lechon asado is tender and juicy, served with a nice vinegary mojo sauce. The«Cuatro Amigos» sampler platter is interesting — it comes with steak, chicken, tasty Spanish sausage and rather dry and tasteless roasted ribs — I think they have to rework the recipe for this. The desserts are pretty standard — flan, tres leches, arroz con leche — we usually skip it. Still, service is good and portions are large, so we will probably come back again one day soon.

I must say, the food was superb on my most recent visit here. I’d say this place is definitely a solid 4 stars at this point. The marinated pork was incredibly juicy and seasoned to perfection. I like this place more and more with every visit, as there have been some noticeable improvements to the food. Keep it up!!!

I enjoyed Azucar very much! Their Lechon asada is out of this world. They at not pricy at all and they have amazing Lunch specials. I don’t like black beans so my husband ate them and now he is a huge fan and said they were perfect. You can tell they are not a chain and that everything is made from scratch. A+ for Azucar

Pretty good find for Cuban food in West Delray Beach. They have all the usual Cuban food here and even the Cuban soda like Iron beer. A little slice of Miami located in Delray.

We came here based on a recommendation and our only complaint is that we didn’t find this place earlier! Great great cuban food. I had to laugh at the other reviews when they said the food was bland. We ordered a ton of different things to try and I don’t have one bad thing to say about any of the food. The staff was friendly, not the fastest service but it kind of goes with the culture so I wouldn’t complain. Place was very clean, food was excellent and in my opinion very reasonably priced. Loved the Azucar tostones… SOGOOD!!! My husband wouldn’t stop talking about the pork asada. Like I said, everything was great and we will definitely add this to our local favorites.

What a disaster. We call to make reservations and confirm paella is being served that night. They tell us yes and ask how many we want. We say two. What they don’t tell us is that one order serves 2 – 3. We wanted two people, they charge us for 4 – 6. It wouldn’t be so bad but the food was horrible. We order four home croquettes. They instead bring us four orders. On a Saturday night, they had one waitress working the whole place. It wasn’t so much she was bad as it was they were understaffed. This is the worst experience I have had in years. I think I have about 150 reviews. This is the only one I’d put in negative stars if I could.
