I expect to see this place shut down soon, which is unfortunate because the food is decent and cheap. The employees are not exactly what you would call sharp, the service is poor, and I caught them trying to close an hour early on a Saturday night.

I have been coming to this place since day one. I used to go to the Fort Worth locations before this one opened up near me. I think they have changed owners once or twice and it seems like every time it gets worst. Lately, the food is cold, the chips are old and the attitude sucks. The soup is cold most of the time and it’s just broth, not much of anything else. The chicken tastes like it’s from the day before and the rice is always cold. Even the sauces don’t have the same taste. Some are too runny and some are too hard. Very disappointing, nothing like the other locations or what it used to be.

So good. Just go, a lot of great food, for a small price. Beans are just ok, but I really don’t like beans, every other side is fantastic. Oh and the salsa and sauces, try them all, so spicy and good!

Worth it. Corn tortillas, as good as I remember growing up 15 minutes from the border, slightly sweet, chewy, and they don’t fall apart. Service was quick. I ordered half a chicken to go, and got it one minute later. Their green salsa is superb, the chicken, superb, the red salsa also superb. Will have to eat in to try out their drinks, haven’t had good jamaica since that street stall where they juiced the fresh hibiscus petals. Honestly not expecting the REAL thing, but this place reminds me of growing up in the valley. Yeah, maybe the service might not be great and the inside is a little scruffy, but who cares, the ambiance, to be honest, is pretty authentic.

Amazing! Can’t wait to go back. Chicken was full of flavor but not over the top on anything. Rice, beans, and tortillas complimented the chicken in all the right ways.

First of all, just eat here. The food is greasy and fattening in the best way possible, but I encourage you not to actually go in the building. The food is so good, but once you’re inside you’ll think twice. It looks dirty and dingy inside and the staff can barely speak English and look shady. Go through the drive thru, take away, and be merry.

Waited for 15 min to get the order. A guy came to the window and talked to me/was very friendly to me; a lady who was also at the window gave me a funny look. I ordered two combos with extra green salsa(it’s good… I paid extra for it, but no problem). The guy walks away. When the woman eventually returns to hand me my order, she looks me dead in my eye and says, «I know you paid for extra salsa, I put five extra containers in the bag.» Something told me to check because I could have sworn I only saw her put a single salsa in the bag… but naïve little me didn’t do it. Y’all I pulled off and discovered that she gave have one small salsa for all that food. The obscenity in my head right now is not appropriate for Unilocal.I call the restaurant, and Juan Carlos(manager) told me to come back and that he’d wait for me. I told him to go home… they were closing & I was already miles away. He tried to right the wrong and for that I add a star. That lady though… she didn’t have to do that. I hope she didn’t spit in the food. People like that make me want to volunteer to mentor kids and meditate.

I was first introduced to El Pollo Regio when I went to the one in Fort Worth. I was elated to find out that there is also one in Denton, where I go to college! My roommate and I have been on a search to find the best traditional Mexican food in Denton. He gets asada street tacos, and I get an asada torta. El Pollo Regio is definitely in my top choices. I love that they griddle the bun on top of cheese, so there’s a delicious crispy layer of cheese right on the bun. I’m a little disappointed that they don’t seem to put avocado on their tortas, which is weird, because I’m pretty sure the one in Fort Worth does. They also have a little salsa bar, which has possibly my favorite creamy jalapeño salsa. Dip your fries in that stuff, and you’ll wonder why you ever used ketchup. One problem is that most times I’ve gone there, I’m punched in the face by the smell of cleaning supplies. You don’t notice it after a while, but it’s enough to make me wonder if I want to go somewhere else(I don’t). The empanadas, while cheap, are very disappointing. I got a pineapple one, and there was practically no filling inside. The churro relleno(churro filled with caramel) is pretty good, but nothing that really makes me want to go back for one.

Great Chicken vs. Poor Customer Service … THECHICKENWINS !!! The sides are just okay but dang that is some good chicken. So if all you want is good chicken then come here. If you want customer service, great sides, then keep looking because you wont find it here.

Horrible customer service. I was charged full price for two small waters for my kiddos. Then I was told I couldn’t switch to soda since I was paying full price for the cup? Seriously? Food was skimpy and not very fresh. I will stick to other locations. This one will not last unless they have some serious customer service training. Thumbs down.

I decided to give this place a try while I had a couple hours to kill between classes last Friday. I went through the drive through during lunch hour and it was still pretty quick. I ordered the taco plate which includes 5 tacos. I decided to get a couple pastor and a couple barbacoa. The pastor was DELICIOUS. and barbacoa was just okay. It was like 70% pieces of fat. I really wish I would have done all pastor. Other than that, it was a good lunch and i’ll definitely be back. Trying their chicken next time!

Working overnight sometimes, and I only mean sometimes has it’s advantages. You occasionally learn about new food places to visit. I work with some hispanic folks, Mexican and South American and they have gotten food from Regio prior to me going. If you don’t know, Pollo Regio is a Mexican chicken place. And some really good chicken too. As on some of my lists I like hitting up the Mexican grocery stores and they have really great lunch/dinner areas with some great chicken and tacos and tortas, but I have to drive out of the way usually to get to them. Pollo Regio takes the chicken part and makes it a short trip down University for me. Granted chicken is what you want to go for, but they have so many other options. Carne Asada, Taquitos, Tostadas, Mole Poblano, Enchiladas and even burgers(although from the guys I work with, they aren’t impressed with those.) Everything is mesquite fire grilled, which is plastered on every single poster in the place. They have horchata! NICE! and fresh dessert empanadas. Caramel, strawberry, cream and pineapple. The caramel and cream ones were really good and my kiddo devoured the strawberry one. As for the half chicken order? It did not disappoint. Great spices and really tasty(a bit dry in spots, hence one star down) great beans and rice, a really good salsa bar, nothing overly hot for me and fresh tortillas. I was stuffed and quite happy. I figure it has to be a great spot when it was mostly all Spanish speakers around me. That’s exactly like when you go to a Chinese restaurant and see alot of Chinese people there. I figure if they are eating there it must be good food. Same at Pollo Regio. Also the service was great. The staff came around a number of times checking to see if everything was ok with my meal. The little things. Enjoy! Support Denton businesses!

This is the real deal! Authentic pollo and carne asada al carbon — soooooo delicious! The meat quality is outstanding, all of the salsas are fresh and flavorful, the portions are huge, and the service is fast. Their rice is the best Mexican rice I’ve found in the Metroplex, too. This is a VERY welcome addition to Denton!
