I’ve wanted to go here for a while now– haven’t been able to get a reservation on the weekend. Easy to get reservation during the week. Had high expectations walking in and wasn’t disappointed. Nice atmosphere. Service was great– Very attentive yet gave you space to enjoy yourselves. Charcuterie board was good– lamb bacon was very good. Salad was heavy on the croutons. We split the cioppino knowing we were going to have dessert and it was just fair. Didn’t finish it. Sticky toffee cake thing was over the top delicious. Best part of the meal. Wine selection was great and Sommelier was knowledgable and fun to talk to. Not sure it was worth the $$- but a good experience overall.

NEWFAVORITERESTAURANTALERT Life is too short to eat bad food. So eat great food and come to Colt & Gray who knocks it out of the park when it comes to food and drink. We had dinner here on Friday night and had a great experience. Everything was perfect. The vibe of the restaurant is chill but refined. The music was boardwalk empire style. Some of you may know what I’m taking about. We began with the barman’s choice cocktail, they nailed mine. My husband had the winter Manhattan. It was delicious. Both cocktails were 10’s. For starters we had the Colorado lamb tartare and it didn’t disappoint. At first I was a bit worried it would be gamey as lamb can tend to be but this was not. It was wonderful. We also had the salmon crudo. So something bright and something savory. Both were wonderful. For mains we had the porterhouse as I wanted a filet and he wanted a strip. We had this medium rare. All I can say is this was the best steak we had ever had. It was so incredibly tender, flavorful, and prepared perfect to temperature. It came with two smaller sides, we did the greens and the baked sweet potato. This meal was a 10. Wine list is comprehensive and reasonably priced. We went with a nice Shiraz to compliment the steak and man was it good. Of course it being our first time here we did dessert too. The sticky toffee pudding was outstanding. And I mean outstanding. Because it took a minute to come out(we didn’t even notice because we had full glasses of wine to drink) our server was a sweetheart and brought us cheesecake also. Like we needed it, but it was heavenly nonetheless. Overall breakdown; Ambiance/Atmosphere– 10 Service– 10(Sam is great) Drinks– 10 Steak– 10 We will definitely be back. Many times!

Overall, dinner and service was spectacular. For dessert we decided to try some sort of a pineapple dessert, but it was a little bit of a let down, so much so that it wasn’t memorable. However, I would definitely go back and have recommended to friends and clients in the area.

We just came here for the dessert, but as soon as we got there we wished we went for dinner as well! The food looked phenomenal and the ambiance is just perfect for a couple, very romantic and classy. We had the sticky toffee pudding, yummy! There was a beautiful little fireplace that set the mood perfectly. The bartender was so friendly and gave us lots of tips on how to explore Denver. Great experience!

First off with the positive; we would give the ambience a 10. Very cozy and sophisticated. Soft music and easy to hear your party. We went on New Year’s eve with a reservation and were very disappointed in the service or lack thereof, the prices for what you get, and the obvious upsell from our waitress. It felt like 10 minutes before our waitress even greeted us at our table. I had to ask more than once for my drink since she forgot my cocktail, and when the bill arrived, they charged for two. To boot, they charged us $ 18 for margaritas made with a very high-end tequila without my knowledge. In their defense, the manager rectified that. The food was unremarkable, we paid $ 11 for a salad made with seemingly nothing more than large doughy bread pieces in it. The waitressed seemed disappointed that we ordered the Cornish game hen after she repeatedly tried to upsell us on the $ 40+ steaks. She mentioned the lamb had extra spices to cover up the flavor, not exactly what anyone wants to hear. Overall, there are better restaurants in town with way better service if you want to pay $ 28-$ 50 for an entrée. Aside from the ambience, we would not recommend wasting your dollars on this trendy restaurant.

We had a great time. We started with the Bartender Choice for dark rum and had one of the most delicious drinks I have had in weeks. Once we moved from the bar to the cozy dining room we switched to wine and charcuterie. We were more impressed with the meat choices than the cheese selection and were very happy with the board that included fresh pickled veggie, chutney, and rustic mustard. The squash soup was spicy and satisfying. We received great wine advice for pairing with the 10 oz dry aged fillet that we split. Meat and cocktails are perfect at C & G. The only reason I didn’t provide a 5 star rating is that I was not impressed with desert selections or the desert that we tried and I really wanted some beautiful fresh greens even though they are not in season.

Oh wow. Max the bartender is great, and all the staff too. Food was wonderfully paired with the appropriate cocktails. We went on a Sunday night so the service was very personable I hope everyone has the same experience.

My overall experience here was fabulous, ranging from the dapper bartenders and servers to warm and cozy décor inside! They are so unique in their on way with the food alone. For starters we had uncut bone marrow that comes with a special tool so you can pry the marrow out yourself. This helps retain the natural flavor of the bone marrow and keep it from drying out. We also had the foie gras in which the servers like to just call«foie». The yummy delight was atop a grilled brioche paired with poached pears to cut down the richness of the foie gras. For dinner we shared the rabbit made in 3 different ways, very interesting in which you can’t tell it was rabbit and doesn’t taste like wild game at all! This was by far our favorite dish and to eat with a side of fries! Our second dish was the seared duck which was good but not as phenomenal as the rabbit. It was part of the Fall/Winter menu that isn’t listed on the website as they still have their Summer menu listed on the site.

Amongst the best steak I have ever eaten(I rarely order it anymore as so few places get it right). Excellent service in the restaurant and then in the bar area for my birthday party. I cannot fault any aspect of our experience and we had over 30 people there(in the bar area) who were all extremely well taken care of. A great spot with terrific décor and atmosphere, and some really excellent staff. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t!

Super cozy place. Everything was exceptional. We loved that they brought an amuse-bouche before the main course and a palate cleanser before dessert. Cocktail menu has good variety and you can even go with Bartenders choice and tell them what spirit and flavor profile you’d prefer. Both of the bartenders choice cocktails I had were delicious and spot on for what I requested. My SO had the pork belly entrée and I had the trio of rabbit(my first time having this protein). Both were really good and cooked well. And you have to get the fries! Which I have to assume are fried in duck fat. They’re perfectly crispy and flavorful. Can’t wait to come back here for another date night.

Seriously this place was AWESOME!!! It has been on my bucket list since 2010. My boyfriend brought me here for my 40th. I have never been to a fine dining restaurant before. Colt & Gray did NOT disappoint. We went on October 3rd(Saturday night). We did have a reservation and I liked how they called and confirmed with us. We were sat right away in a beautiful dining room. Waiter came immediately and answered our questions about drinks and the food. He was very knowledgeable about the specials and how they were prepared. Everyone was so nice and polite. The food was absolutely divine. They truly know what they are doing in the kitchen. Everything was so very good and makes me wish we could eat there every night.

If I could give six stars, I would! Came in for an impromptu Sunday night dinner and cocktails. As soon as we entered the door, the place romanced me to the point of butterflies over the atmosphere. Exposed brick, dim lighting, tables that while open felt very intimate and private. We started with a couple of house cocktails while we enjoyed the summer green salad and sweet corn fritters. For dinner we ordered the sweet corn agnolotti and clay pot pork belly, both of which were fantastic. Before our food arrived, however, the bartender/mixologist came over to our table and asked what we had ordered for dinner. He then offered to create a custom cocktail for each of us to complement the flavors of the dishes we ordered! I have never had such a great, personal experience at a dining establishment before. At first glance, the place appears on the pricey side. But after our evening of mind blowingly delicious food and delectable cocktails, an evening spent here is worth every penny!

The ambience was stunningly warm and cozy. Small restaurant focused on quality and it shows. Wine selection was a little underwhelming but the dinner menu did not disappoint. Started with the Beemster cheese which was paired with some fruit compote, grain mustard, and pickles. Had the Filet for my main. Perfectly cooked. Seasoned to perfection and the bordelaise sauce was the perfect accoutrement. Had the cheese grits as my side which could have used a bit more salt for my taste but were still delicious. I decided to forego dessert for an extra glass of wine. At the end of dinner one of the managers came over and chatted for a bit. A nice touch to the end of my meal. I would DEFINITELY recommend Colt & Gray to anyone in or visiting the Denver area. Don’t think… just go!

Yo, this is for St. Ellie’s: Manetta– get at this girl. She’s down for the booze challenge, and understands how to chill(and, by extension, to let chill). All drinks were slammin’, and the cheddar popcorn was a nice touch. This joint’s deceptively large, but seems small when you walk down– that’s small-cozy, not small-cramped. Mirrors everywhere(delicately brushing my bangs from my face as I type this). She-beaux and I wonder at what point is it legit to claim your Est. date– this debate went for some time whilst perusing the Deliciousness section of the drink menu for booze challenge ingredients. Let other fools drink up at Colt & Gray– no hate; just sayin’ let’s keep this joint low-key. I will likely be here every week for a boozy, post work early evening. Wednesdays? Get at this joint.

Came in for some after dinner cocktails and this place is impressive. The service was spot on, so friendly and engaging. We ordered 2 old fashions with wild turkey, they ran out of wild turkey so the bartender suggested a different kind and he did not disappoint! Would love to come back to try the food at some point, everything we saw looked delicious. It’s a smaller bar area which made it intimate.

A very good restaurant in downtown Denver. — Service was nicely paced. Welcoming, but not overbearing — The charcuterie board was excellent. One of the meats was a little cold and didn’t have much flavor initially, but as it came to room temperature was very nice — The lamb chop and sausage over risotto with blueberries was a very nice main. Savory, sweet, and delicate and hearty at the same time — The cheesecake topped with a thick caramel sauce put me over the top If I’m in the area again, I will be visiting Colt & Gray.

This is my favorite restaurant and bar in Denver. I personally like to sit at the bar and have some craft cocktails and house made charcuterie. The service is always friendly and the cocktails and food are top notch. Both the cocktail menu and the food menu change seasonally, but there are some classics that are constantly available. The bar is small enough and quiet enough that you can(and will) have a conversation with those around you. I always meet interesting people when I come here. This is not the place to get cheap eats and drinks, but the value is high. Do yourself a favor, come and pull up a bar stool, order a cocktail and some bites and have a great experience.

So I really am struggling with this review. I wanted it to be a different experience so badly! I have to start by saying I have wanted to go since they opened and just made it for my first time on Mother’s Day 2015. I have recommended it to others and have talked about it enough that one of my vendors gave me a hefty gift card for Christmas to go. So, I have anticipated it, followed the menus and awards, and remodel, and reviews, and wine list, and buzz and the addition of Ste. Ellie, etc. The bar… sigh.(bad sigh) I have to rant a little bit here about a handful of bar tenders being so affected these days — like a real attitude, disingenuous and sometimes just bothered by questions or drink orders. We were all on time, early even… and went to the not crowded bar with four people at it at 1:20 pm. Bottomless mimosa was question no. one — if we ordered and paid for the bottomless mimosa at the bar could we have this at our table for our 1:30 reservation. Sigh. Yes. OK. Annoying question no. two that we asked — do you have a bloody mary with bourbon? Sigh. Eye roll almost, «no, but we can make one with bourbon if you want.» Sigh. OK It was just odd — feeling like a bother. No smiles, mild ‘tude and for no reason, not busy. My husband(who used to work at The Palm) asked WTF — I explained that this is the trend in Denver sadly for a few spots. NOT all — but a few. I was hopeful that once we sat down it would turn around. Sat down, server was nice and knowledgeable — I said I had been looking forward to the charcuterie forever and would like the large one. It never came. Nor did the cinnamon rolls we ordered — that she mentioned as ‘specials’. Entrees came and then we asked about the other items. She did a big and major save here in my book — apologized, forgot to ring in the cinnamon rolls and misunderstood that I wanted to order the charcuterie. They were on the house — she was so very sorry. The charcuterie was lovely — the cinnamon rolls were little perfect soft puffs and the desserts were the highlight of the whole day. Whomever their pastry chef is, well, they are killing it. We had two kids with us and there was no kids menu for Mother’s Day Brunch — odd. The pancakes were fine for them so no big deal. I will say, that sometimes it’s hard to judge a place by brunch food — it was good. I have had much better and I have had much worst. The ultimate breakfast sandwich with red eye gravy and fries was really good — but was only warm, not hot when we got it and by the time everyone got their entrees. Sad face here. We ordered a side of fries with gravy and they came out hot — and they were amazing. Tripe Chilaquiles — good texture, nicely prepared, red sauce. And the sausage and eggs was probably my favorite — just great, classic breakfast food. I would have given four stars due to the save of our server — but the bar staff was so upsetting that I just couldn’t. I would try them again, but with the steep competition in the Denver dining scene it will be awhile. Lena, Work & Class, Central Bistro, The Populist, and The Plimoth have my immediate votes and attention for being both delicious and happy; I am just a fan of hospitable people and good food — at the same time.

Have you ever met a person who changed for the better? I have. And it’s not something that happens all that often. Usually, people remain true to their form: For good or for bad.(Me included:). Restaurants… pretty much the same. It’s therefore really neat to talk about Colt & Gray because that restaurant has actually improved substantially since it first opened several years ago. In fact, about 5 years ago I struggled to rate it at barely 4 stars. Now it’s bordering on 5 stars. First, they’ve really improved the space. They’ve expanded into the corner shop next door and it has made all the difference in the world. Whereas it used to feel cramped inside, it now feels very comfortable. Whereas the food always had some thing off about it at each meal, now the plates are well prepared and extremely tasty. Had a delicious duck dinner there last night with friends and everyone was pleased as punch with their food. The hit of the night was the potted cheescake for dessert. In-friggin-credible!!! While everyone talks about their bread pudding with sticky toffee topping, i can’t imagine how anything could taste better than that cheesecake, and by the way, I usually hate cheesecake. They also had some pretty good wines by the glass at not ridiculously high prices. Had a glass of Patton Valley Estate Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley that matched the duck perfectly for $ 15 a glass. For a 90 point wine at a really good restaurant that’s not a terrible price to pay. So Colt & Gray… you’ve got a new happy customer, and since we can easily walk there from our place I think you’ll be seeing a lot more of us in the near future.
