Preface: All is well with The Husband Let’s hope that you never have to call 911 but if you do, let me tell you that your loved one will be in the best of hands for a medical emergency. We had an incident on Fri night where I thought the husband was having a heart attack, it took me a few minutes to think if we really should be calling but after 25 years together, I knew something was wrong. The person on the line was so calm in telling me exactly how to handle the situation, including taking a glass of water out of The Husband’s hand. I opened the front door and within minutes a fire truck and then an ambulance pulled up. The caregivers were professional, courteous and assured me I had done the right thing even if it was heart burn(which for a while it looked like it could have been). The Husband got great care and was taken by ambulance to the hospital; he was not serious enough to get the siren though. As I said, all is well considering we spent the weekend in the hospital. I just wanted to sing the praises of 911. The real story… so what I really wanted to say was when the fire truck pulled up and the first fireman jumped out, everything went into slow motion for me; my eyes had those little sparkly stars in them. My god, 5 of the most handsome, buffed men in the world jumped out of that truck and were running to me. I murmured under my breath, «Whoa» and one of them said, «What?» And I red-faced said, «Oh there are so many of you.» How could I say in the middle of a medical emergency with The Husband, I had thought, «You can put my fire out anytime.» Remember, it was a thought, just an innocent thought.
