The day I proposed to my girlfriend, was the day I made the commitment to eternally love her for the rest of my life. A feeling of security, comfort, and happiness. The thought of knowing that this person standing next to me will be with me through the thick and thin, good times and bad, happy and sad. A moment of clarity, if you will. A FRESH feeling of being INLOVE. Those three feelings that I initially felt when proposing, are what Melissa O’Connell of Fresh In Love brings when she documents your special day. She is really easy to work with, and makes you feel as comfortable(and as natural) as possible. Her approach, as she states on her site, is to treat each couple as how she’d want to be treated if she were getting married. With a modern and organic approach to her photographs, she makes her shots as natural as possible, which is what attracted us to her style. Those moments when you’re not staring directly into the camera lens(although she gets those, too =), laughing uncontrollably, and being in love without a care of what’s going on around you – times you remember vividly but don’t always get to capture – Melissa is able to grab these memories and turn them into a lifelong memento. We happened upon Fresh In Love through the Knot website while searching for a wedding photographer. Her posted wedding pictures on her blog differentiated her from other wedding photographers I was eternally browsing through. Almost instantaneously, and if by chance, I knew she would be perfect to document our wedding. I’m a graphic designer with a particular eye for certain visual things which make me pause and look deeper, and her photographs made me do that. Melissa’s professionalism, ease to work with, ability to scout locations beforehand for the best lighting, happy style, great attitude, willingness to travel on-location, accommodating approach, and kick-ass camera and lens(es) make her awesome. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer in a heartbeat.

I was thrilled to find Melissa, the owner of this business– through a wedding magazine website. Her work is unique and very beautiful. We were looking for atypical wedding photography and we found it with Fresh In Love! The style is almost dream like in quality… some shots appear to be almost floaty. And she definitely listened to us and gave us the old-school, timeless b&w photos we wanted, as well as her own signature style photos that are truly magazine quality. Plus, she’s a really cool person and down-to-earth. I guess my only disappointments(and this is probably my fault) was that she didn’t take a photo of every table at our reception. In other words, I would have liked to have seen ALL of our guests(we only had 75) over the course of 500+ shots. The other little thing that kind of hurts is that on her website, she posts photos of every wedding she shoots, but for a lot of the other weddings, she posted 10 – 20 shots. For ours? Four or five. There were LOTS of really amazing photos, including inside our church, so I’m not sure why she chose not to showcase those. In any case, the photos really are beautiful and Melissa is easy to work with. She sends you two discs after about 6 weeks and they’re just crammed with great shots. We are now in the market for a good wedding book maker and printer…
