I really wanted to like this place. Visited last night around 6pm. The place had 0 sense of urgency. We didn’t sit at the bar, but rather by the main window. Even though it was reasonably slow, no one (cocktail waitress or server) came around so we want up to the bar to order. The guy who made our drinks kept running his hands through his hair and his apron was covered in disgustingness. Not surprisingly, the employees seemed high (no judgment) but acted like we were harshing their mellow by being there. Being brand new to kava, we had no idea what to try, so we ordered 2 «doubles», one piña colada and one strawberry daquiri. I was surprised to see the server pull out two plastic jugs of the sickly sweet, premade, fake drink mixes. When I went to pay, I noticed that the total was for «single» drinks. When I inquired, the server said «oh, you wanted doubles?» He remade the drinks. The drinks were $ 13 each and were served in an overflowing and dripping down the sides of the glass. Some fresh fruit garnish would go a long way. I wiped off the drinks, but there are no trash cans to throw anything away, so dirty napkins just stayed on the top of the bar. As far as the effects go, my tongue got numb for about 20 minutes (and that was it), but then again, I didn’t drink the whole thing because oh the horrible ambiance. This place is a wasted opportunity to educate Denver on the tradition and pageantry of kava, but instead feels like an expensive, dusty, dirty coffeeshop. Will never return.

A new friend brought me into this place with the disclaimer that it could be a bit «different». Well, different meant really cool in this instance! Great place to relax, have a great conversation with someone, and really enjoyed the staff and the experience! Loved it and will surely be back.

Kavasutra and its ultra helpful employees know exactly what’s up. I come here with groups, I come here with a date, I come here alone. It’s the low energy setting is perfect for a little communication with either others or yourself. I recommend asking for flavoring in your kava if you’re a first timer, the bartenders will get you right.

Kavasutra is a friendly environment with welcoming ‘bartenders.’ They have fun doing business but the problem is the product, not the establishment.
Contrary to the guidance of our server, who told us we ought to «drink as much as possible on first visit,» and advised that «Kava is totally safe to consume before driving,» Kava is NOT a safe beverage (and it tastes terrible to boot). Additionally, people have been cited for driving under the influence after consuming kava.
My friend and I visited and both felt dreadful afterward. Kava leaves you groggy, tired, and fuzzy-​headed for an extended period of time. As our server said, «it is not like alcohol.» And, he’s right — it was worse.
Additionally, Kava is a banned substance in other countries, and the U.S. may follow suit. Kratom, another disgusting tasting beverage they sell is also a controlled substance in many other countries — and is being banned in increasingly more states in the U.S.
In short, if you enjoy this sort of thing — like, say you are employed at a place that conducts drug testing and you have to quit the weed, fine. But call an Über and please do your homework and know the risks — like, to your liver. For others just searching for adventure, I advise to steer clear. This is the sort of place Denver could do without.

Great place to hang out. Good service. Need more options for seating tho. The benches on the back wall are kinda akward. Love this place tho

Love this place. Just wish that they hadn’t rearranged the seating, the benches against the wall behind the bar are just awkward. I’ll come in sometimes and the bar is packed but I don’t want to sit on the weirdly placed benches so I’ll instead get my drink to go.

Apparently today is adventure time. I’m having fun going around doing different thing’s, Exploring Denver. This place is like a bar but not a bar I love it! An its all natural woo hoo. The Kavatender Chris is very creative he is making me yummy beverages that are all natural and healthy for you. I will definitely be coming here again. All thumbs up!!! Matt did an amazing job keeping the entire bar satisfied, from his boisterous «Bula!» to his cheerful demeanor. This nice little comfort spot will wet your whistle with amazing company and future friends. Try the kratom for a bitter pick me up!

I like it. It’s clean, smells good, friendly peeps and the Kava is amazing! Try it, have a good amount for the first few and then it should kick in with less amounts of Kava. Try it!

Decided to stop in for the first time last night after spending a while at 1up! The bartender (can’t remember his name but a younger guy with darker hair from Florida) was really awesome at explaining everything to us and answering all our questions, since neither my boyfriend and I had tried either kratom or kava in drinks before. The traditional brews of kava are very earthy, and he offered to add vanilla flavor which was a really great suggestion and made it pretty delicious! The black-​topped kratom drink with citric acid was pretty bitter, but the bartender allowed us to choose our own flavors of syrup to add and gave us a glass of ice… made it a nice, tasty drink!
Really you can’t beat the relaxed atmosphere and super-​late hours. Plus, be there at exactly 1am and you get up to 6 scoops of kava for $ 1 each, incredible deal!

The «kavatender» gave us the «virgin special» when we were in in a quiet, Monday spring evening. A double shot of kava and three shots for $ 12. I liked the Orange dreamsicle shot the best. Berry lemonade was also good. The coconut line one was not refreshing. They all made my tongue a bit numb. Cool vibe. I hear it has health benefits, and seems to be cool with the stoner crowd. I’ll have to research it some more, but I am interested in returning. They have a DJ on some nights.

Really fun place to hang out! Has a coffee shop feel/​vibe, but don’t expect to be given coffee! You can try a myriad of flavors of kava, whether in shot form or in the more traditional tea type form. I’ve been twice and the first time, the bartender was amazing at explaining the menu and even what exactly Java is and does for you. The second time, the bartender was less personable, but it was definitely busier so that may have been why. Either way, it’s a fun thing to try and you can tell it has a set of regulars that make this the place «where everybody knows your name.»

Well this is interesting. We will go back but the guys behind the bar were so out of it that it was hard to get service. When they finally came around, it was a little chaotic. We had to just put money on the bar to pay the tab but could easily have walked out without paying.
Drink prices were around $ 10 for the experience. Wish we could have tried some of the flavored shots.
Have no idea if we paid the correct amount, never got a tab but we overtipped because the guys were as nice as they could be, just not consciously aware of what was going on.
Drinks taste like dirt but we knew that going into the place. Nice mellow buzz but when we tried to order 4 or 5 flavored shots as follow up drinks that’s when they either didn’t have the flavor, couldn’t figure out how to make it or they just were too floaty to follow up.
Great atmosphere with Planet Earth playing on the big screens. Although you may not want to see a seal getting eaten by a Polar Bear when you are buzzing.

Went in here on a whim! And it was awesome. I would recommend it to almost anybody. The key is an open mind and a very open palate.
It’s very interesting both flavor and texture wise. So for starters all the drinks have a silty/​powdery note to their texture. It’s omnipresent but not bad at all.
The classic kava, the Ed Shell. It’s a tannish brown bubbly color. Served at room temperature and it was garnished with fresh pineapple. Went down the hatch like water minus the taste. It’s earthy, really earthy. Almost like dirt. Kava is a root after all. It has a slight spice to it also, almost like ginger.

I’ve only visited Kavasutra once, and it was a pleasurable experience. My friend only lives a block away from this place, so we decided to stop passing by and go in. The ambiance was very calm, cool and collected. It almost gave me the same feeling curling up in a library on a snowy day does.
We bought a Groupon for $ 15 which let us explore $ 30 of the menu. We ordered two of the original double strength kava drinks and a couple of the flavored shooters. It’s very earthy at first, but the taste kind of grows on you. It’s best to drink it all at once, almost like a shot. It makes your mouth feel super wierd and numb at first, but it eventually wears off. The after effects are what you should be worried about anyways.
Which brings me to the after effects of drinking kava: euphoric. I felt amazing after the shooters and individual drink. The servers were friendly and talkative. They were very informative, especially our server, Dave. He made sure he let us know the ins and outs about kava and everything in between. It really made the experience as enjoyable as it could possibly be. I will be returning to Kavasutra in the future for some more of those warm, fuzzy feelings.

Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful people and best of all wonderful tea! I got kava and kratom tea, made me feel very relaxed and calm, being the hyperactive person i am. Would definitely recommend coming here!

From the moment you walk in you feel the positive energy. The space is super well thought out and the friendly atmosphere is inviting as well as adventurous.
The service is great and the drinks fabulous.

This place is awesome! I got a tip from the peeps over at Happy Leaf that a new Kava bar was going to be opened right by my house and I knew I had to try it. All I have to say is WOW; I am super impressed by Kavasutra. Not only does it have a vast array of options for you to enjoy your Kava, they also have Kombucha on tap and a myriad of other options for loose leaf teas.
As for the Kava itself I wouldn’t exactly describe it as tasty, but the effects on your body are felt right off the bat. A weird calming effect comes over you and for me at least all of the anxiety and issues of the day just seemed to go by the wayside. Since I’m new to the game I let Alex, the guy running the shop, show me the ropes and give the spiel on what Kava is and what was a good start for me. He was very friendly and inviting for us to try anything we wanted, but gave some good recommendations and from how I was feeling when I left I’d say he was right on the mark. The interior has a sort of beach vibe with some cool art and weird things on the wall, some nice sitting areas and some trippy stuff on the TV’s. Overall I had a great time and will be back for sure.
I highly recommend anyone in the area to give them a try, if you’re looking for an alternative to a bar or just hopping around Colfax go here and enjoy! I’ll be back and so should you!
