We really liked our food — it was authentic Mexican more so than Tex Mex. The Salsa with the chips was one of the best we have had. I had a «Caldo de Camaron» and it was excellent. Hubby had a salad and it was good. We will be back!

**RESTAURANTISCLOSED** I visited on a Saturday afternoon(May 30, 2015) and a hand-written sign on the door said the restaurant was closed and thanked customers for years of business. You’ll have to travel across the freeway to the more expensive La Sandia in the fancy shopping center to get Mexican dishes.

At La Mariposa with a few friends right now… The food was alright, but the server has made the experience absolutely terrible. When I ordered my 2nd margarita, he took the first one away even though it was still half full. My friend ordered fajitas with corn tortillas, and he brought her flour. It wouldn’t be a big deal if he had come check on us within the first 10 minutes after we got our food(you would think he’d care how we were doing, especially since someone else ran the food). When he finally did come by with the 2nd margarita I ordered, he literally tried to run away, like he’s been doing the entire meal. He’s also refused to make eye contact with us the whole time, even though he seems to be very patient with his other servers. I held my hand out to keep him from running away, to see if he could fill up our waters and bring us some chips and salsa(something he said he would bring before we even got the meal). He did, and hasn’t been back since. We have been going to the bar for anything we need from that point on. Will not be back here. By the way, we came at 5:30 so our server being busy is not an excuse.

We stayed at the Double Tree, and this place was within walking distance, so we have it a go. The interior was a little dated, but the service was great and the food was awesome! I would definitely go back if I’m ever in the area. The margaritas were only$ 5.50… Which is better than the hotel prices! The taco salad was great. And the quesadilla too!

If your name is Brad and you live in the suburbs with your wife Jennifer, who hocks Mary Kay on the weekdays – busts your b@!!& about the lawn on the weekends, have 2.5 kids and a dog named spot. Stay away, this place is way to awesome for your high brow misguided opinions about what Mexican food should be, stick to Taco Bell, we will all be happier. This place is the real deal, right down to the interior design and the common language spoken. Yeah there is a big green sombrero for those dim wits that just don’t get it. I only had the tacos on my first trip here but they were so amazing I went for a second round of fish tacos, also very solid. This is the best Mexican place I have been to north of Albuquerque and east of Winnemucca. Normally I would avoid the Mexican restaurant wedged between two hotels but I’m glad I swung into The Butterfly for a beer or I would have missed something special.

Pretty decent. I agree with the comment below that bad reviews are from people don’t know the difference between authentic Mexican and taco bell.

So yummy! Margaritas are awesome, happy hour is great, chips and salsa are bottomless, staff is so so kind, and it has VERYOPENSEATING. Sat at the bar and watched the basketball games and chatted with the staff. Very pleased with the food and the experience. True Mexican food(and staff), not Americanized at all. Super happy with my choice for dinner and cocktails!

It was… ok, and that may be an overstatement people. Party of 4 adults and 4 kids. There was a table next to us that had about 10 – 11 people. We got there approx 10 – 15 mins before them. They got appetizers, drinks, chip refills(2x), their meal, the check, and were almost done by the time we even got our food, no lie. We had to damn near leave the table and go look for the waitress to get a reup on chips and salsa. My carne asada was not cooked liked I asked. The kids plates looked pathetic. I was not impressed.

Great service, attentive staff. Salsa is great-just the right amount of spicy. Drinks never empty. I had Enchiladas de Espinacas– three soft corn rolled tortillas dipped in green tomatillo sauce filled with spinach, black beans and topped with mexican cheese served with cilantro rice. Large portion, good value. I would return next time I’m in the area.

Such terrible service! Sat at bar, restaurant was completely empty with servers on their cell phones and not one single person acknowledged us! 10 minutes later we left… As we walked out I thanked the hostess for the service and she laughed like it was funny.

This place is the worst! Casa Bonita has better food. I’ve lived in the area for a while now and I finally became brave enough to try this place. On the outside, la mariposa looks like a decent place, but when you walk in, it looks like a run down village in with Mexican restaurant décor. But my husband told me not to worry and said«It’s Mexican food. How can they fuck it up?» 1st we ordered margaritas. They tasted like lemon water with watered down Tequila. In fact, they were probably as clear as water. It was so disgusting that I made my husband drink mine. He left sober, but hydrated. For some reason, we stuck around for the food. I ordered a smothered chicken burrito. They used canned chicken and didn’t even try to disguise the taste with and seasonings.(I don’t even think they drained the chicken before putting it in my burrito). I’m not sure what my husband ordered, but he was disgusted as well. At least I’ll never be tempted to go to this awful place again.

Mexican food is comfort food, and big Jerome gets comfortable at LA Mariposa. I’m here right now and this dude is playing the hell out of a harp. He just played the theme to The Godfather and that’s enough for me to get on Unilocal and tell you about it. The margaritas are deep and the carne asada is tender. It won’t change your world but if you’re in the neighborhood, you won’t be disappointed.

What a shithole! Looks great from the outside and since I now live in Stapleton I’ve been meaning to come here for a while. Drinks are way overpriced. Margaritas have barely any liquor in them, and food is fair at best. 2 stars instead of 1 because I finished food(haven’t eaten since 10am though). Food ISNOTFRESH. It was pretty bad. After clearing our plates, we had to wait a half hour to get a check. Server might have been too busy with the whole 3 tables she had… sarcasm. Went to restroom before we left. DISGUSTING! All in all, I’m getting the feeling this place is best used as a wedding hall. They have huge unused rooms in the back. Awful food, weak drinks, poor prices, and terrible service. DONOTGO!

Our waiter was Angel and he was awesome! Friendly, prompt, and didn’t even need to write down our orders. We had 6 people and they quickly accommodated us. Table side guacamole was good– jalapeños in it though which made it a bit more spicy than usual. Food was great! Every one we were with enjoyed their meals. Some items were a bit pricy. Margaritas were tasty. I would recommend!

The marquee outside of this restaurant claims to be a margarita house. Do they have margarita’s? Yes. Here are my thoughts… If your claim is to be a margarita house, maybe you should have a good margarita! Enough said. Thumbs down

The booth almost caved in when I sat down, the food was luke warm and the cheese in my chili relleno was still shredded and not even melted. The flavors were bland and it was truly not very good at all. I don’t plan on going back.

Just redecorated as Mexican Food and Margarita Bar. The new look, and bar are fresh and a lot more upscale. The menu did shrink but really the best of it remains along with some things that were sorely missing before(carnitas). We have lived in the Stapleton neighborhood for some time, and honestly and sadly were tired of the flavors, but the new look and foods have us going back every other week. I love the staff and management, I hope the newness helps them thrive.
