Monkey Fist Tattoo

Tops is a humble man. Great artist, with a lot of talent. Met Tops a couple years ago after he did my first tattoo on my ankle. Since then I have went back for four more tattoos. I highly recommend Toperoni.

I can’t speak for some of the other comments here on Unilocal,but my experience was nothing like those described.
My artist was Tony Lucero, and he did a gorgeous job! I will absolutely be coming back.
He was even able to fit my friend in the next day, and charge for the work done was absolutely on point. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone I know.

I received a tattoo here a couple month back. I had an appointment but the artist that was supposed to tattoo me was «busy». Then artist that was filling his place hit my knuckle with his gun running so I now have a red dot there and did not offer to cover it (I’m all about more ink) he just said oops my bad…
I went to another tattoo shop to get the work I got done here fixed because it looked like shit. Do not tattoo if you are unable to draw a straight line. My back and leg are sleeved so I assure you it was not me moving.
The employees were not inviting and really made me feel uncomfortable. I do not recommend going here unless you personally know them or else they will treat you like a second class citizen!

I have been getting tattooed at Monkey Fist for the past five years. Tops has hammered out at least 20 hours of amazing custom artwork into my flesh, a lot of it freehand. Tops is undoubtedly one of the most talented artists I have had the pleasure of finding. Not only has he mastered his craft and his hand is so incredibly light, but his talents continue onto canvas, paper, motorcycle tanks, t-​shirts, and beyond. Issac and the rest of the crew are incredibly talented, kind, and accommodating. I’ve NEVER experienced anything but timeliness, respect, manners, and professionalism. And I’ve NEVER seen or smelled alcohol, marijuana, or even tobacco in the shop… EVER. That being said, any ignoranus that would rate them anything other than fantastic was obviously not raised proper, is maladjusted, or doesn’t function well in our society… but I’m thinking a combination of all three is more accurate. If I could rate Monkey Fist with 10 stars I would.
If you’re thinking about getting your first or adding on to existing or covering up that mistake you made seven years ago, you should find yourself here…

I had great work done here 4 yrs ago by the owner Tops — he is an alcoholic now and runs his «business» like a five yr old and has amateurs on staff so he can go drink — sad to say but stay far far away from here. also if u make an appointment they r likely to no show or blame u, but will let a novice mess up ur body for life to make up for it.

Great experience at Monkey Fist, it’s a clean & inviting shop and all of the staff were friendly and put me at ease.
I’d been planning on getting ink for almost a year and came here based on a friend’s recommendation. He told me to go see OG, the owner, and he’d give me exactly what I was looking for.
I took about 15 different pictures with me to give OG an idea of what I was looking for then he asked me a bunch of questions so he could really get the full scope of what I wanted. Then he got to work drawing out out the design, asking more questions as he went and tweaking things here and there.
The process took about 3 hours, the first hour we talked and he drew the artwork, the rest of the time I was on the table. He took a lot of care to make sure I was comfortable and checked on me throughout the process.
It was a great experience and I fully intend on sending any of my friends to Monkey Fist to get their ink. I got a custom design that’s exactly what I wanted without even realizing it before walking into the studio. The lines and color are impeccable, I feel like gushing because I’m so pleased with the work Before the ink was even dry (haha) I started discussing my next project with OG. Can’t thank him enough for the outstanding work he did.

I am so glad that their are places like Unilocal where you can leave honest review. Let me tell you my story.
After visiting a few shops I decided I liked the personal vibe of Monkey Fist and the owner, OG, seems to do decent affordable work. So I went in and made an appointment which was two months in the future. in the mean time I happily get some free work from Og/​s (have NO idea what his real name is) apprentice Rochelle who was pretty nice to chat with. She however had no idea who Bowser was or anything about Mario but I provided numerous sources and tried my best to explain that I was looking for the Paper Mario style. Four painful hours later I had a partial Bowser that isn’t that bad, but certainly wasn’t the style I had printed out and requested. For free I wasnt going to complain and figured I would just have her finish the piece in her style no problem. I tipped decently and spread the word about her work. Was looking forward to bringing my brother in for some work, too. Upon further inspection Rochelle is good at her own designs which are simple line drawings. If you like that then she is the way to go. Anything else out of her comfort zone, not so much.
HERES WHERE IT GETS GOOD. The night before my long awaited appointment with OG, Rochelle calls to let me know my appointment needs to cancelled. Something about flights being cancelled. I was very bummed out but agreed to wait for OG to call me the next day to reschedule. Night goes on and I go to bed. My husband, not me, posts on his own personal facebook without tagging anyone that he is bummed for me that my appointment got cancelled. Less than an hour later Monkey Fist post to their shop page, tagging my husband, that we are idiots and that he is a dumb FAGGOT. he seriously used that word. it was a weird drunk sounding ramble that was very negative and completely unwarranted. FB drama ensues but by the time I wake up in the morning to read it, it has been deleted and I have the clear impression that I am not welcome there anymore. Anyone else thinking WTF cause that’s what I was thinking. No follow up call, return of my voicemails, emails or text messages. Unprofessional barely describes the behavior of this shop.
I am so glad they showed their true colors before I gave them my skin and money.

I went to Monkey Fist Tattoo on a Saturday at around 1 PM, hoping to simply schedule an appointment. I was a bit nervous walking in because, being young and female, I was not the usual client. The atmosphere was very friendly and open, with artists and clients all talking. Cody, one of the tattoo artists, was very nice but not fake with me and did my consultation right then and there. He scheduled me an appointment for later that evening. When I came back, he drew and redrew my tattoo until it was exactly what I wanted without complaint or any remarks. He also helped me mix the perfect ink color. The result was EXACTLY what I wanted, and they offered me a free touch-​up. The price was lower than other place I had looked at but the value was superb.
