This is one of my favorite sushi spots in Denver. I honestly don’t think any of the sushi in Denver is that good. I’ve been all over, including Sushi Den. This spot is as good any in Denver. This place is a total hole in the wall; however, the service and sushi makes up for it. If you’re looking for a romantic spot to take your significant other, look somewhere else. However, for good times and great sushi, Sonodas all the way. P. S. if you end up at this place, as for upstairs seating. The waiter is great and it’s a little nicer.

Pros: reasonably priced; friendly staff; rewards card. Cons: seaweed salad is actually about 85% cucumber, 15% seaweed; tacky décor; kinda stinky inside. It’s the only place to get sushi downtown, so it’s kinda crowded, but hey, can’t fault them for that.

We stopped in on a Sunday for lunch. The place was fairly deserted — only a couple of tables. We sat at the sushi bar, which was great. The owner greeted us and our server was great — very attentive and helpful. The space is nothing amazing — pretty standard, but the food is outstanding. My hirame and unagi were great — the anikimo was a little more strongly flavoured than I prefer, but my guy liked it. He ordered the natto, which he declared to be quite good. My guy forgot his credit card after paying, and the owner ran 2 blocks to catch up with us and return it — that alone is amazing service. I’ll definitely eat here again the next time I’m in town.

Stopped in for our first time a few weeks ago and dined downstairs at the sushi bar. They had some really great happy hour prices since there was a Rockies game at home so we got some beer and sake. The food was tasty – miso soup, veggie tempura and a few rolls. The server was very friendly and accommodating. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but nothing was particularly extraordinary and we’re not rushing to go back with so many other options around town.

I see some people give this place one star or a bad review. It makes me crazy. I want to be very clear — the poor rating is a reflection of the reviewer. If you live in Tokyo some of the most divey places have the best sushi. They put their money into the food. And rating a Japanese restaurant on a Dragon Roll? OK — so for you non-sushi people this is a clear signal that the reviewer does not know their sushi. Sonodas is traditional, authentic, and delicious. It is some of the best nigiri, sashimi and tempura you will find in the region. Rolls were invented in California(like California roll with the rice on the outside — and all the fusion rolls that are a departure from traditional sushi). So, if you want a traditional experience(as close as you can get) then Sonodas is the place. But if you are clueless about traditional sushi and want to stare at the walls and marvel over the fish in the tank — go to Sushi Den or Hapa or somewhere else. But don’t walk into a fish joint, order a burger, and then complain.

I’ve passed this place time and time again and it always seems crazy busy with a early 20’s crowd hanging around the spot. So much to my chagrin, when we stopped by here on a Thursday night and it was pretty dead, I was a happy gal. I’m confused by how many levels there are to this place, I think we sat on the main level where the bar is. We were the only people in there and the bartender was quick and chatty. I don’t know why but the bar area was giving off an 80’s Miami Vice vibe which confused and amused me. We kept it simple with some salads, udon and sushi and everything was brought out at the right time and tasted great. If they have a happy hour or am in the area when it’s not bumping with 20 year olds, I will definitely be back.

If I could come here everyday for their Nabeyaki Udon, I would! Service is wonderful at the bar and the food is great! Talk about a home cooked meal served in the middle of downtown. The broth has my mouth watering and the noodles are excellent in consistency. We also had a roll that consisted of peppered tuna that was great as well. Would like to try more the next time I come back this way!

Worst sushi ever in my life… disgusting, non-sticky rice, the ingredients were not fresh… rolled incorrectly… just overall yucky The décor is crappy… almost as if I walked into an 80s diner… the ceiling is actually rusting… the sushi chefs look like they just learned what sushi actually was yesterday My friend and I ordered a dragon roll(we could not even eat more than one piece of this crap), cali roll(decent but was rolled incorrectly), spider roll(had a burnt taste– kind of like burnt popcorn), and rainbow(i did not try it but my friend said that it was not good). The management is also very unprofessional. We gave the majority of the sushi that we ordered back as we could not eat it and completely lost our appetites. When we complained, the waitress said she could offer free icecream… FREE icecream for $ 45 worth of uneaten sushi? Then the manager came over and said he could offer 10% as the waitress said that we did, in fact, eat the majority of the sushi(liar). Then, the manager said that he could give us his employee(25%). After he went in the back and saw how much sushi we actually did NOT eat, he then took off around 50% which made us pretty happy. He was young and looked like he had no idea as to what he was doing. Sad day in sushi world. Never going back.

Ive been here twice now. Why Im just writing a Review is beyond me. Very Unassuming, but I like thats its right by Market Street Station. When going down the First set of stairs watch out for that 2nd to last step it almost always nearly trips me because I miss it. I sit at the bar downstairs. Not sure what the area upstairs is for though i see people sitting there and they run sushi up to them. It works just like Sonoda’s on Broadway. Write the number next to what you want and how many, and Give the paper to your server. I think it works better when you give it to your Sushi chef himself but Hey Whatever works. Always ask about the specials which are on the board. They have smaller boards which shows you whats in them. This time around I started with the Spider Roll. Typical with what you expect at other places. Well put together. Could of been packed a little tighter some pieces fell apart in my chopstick. The Lobster roll was delicious. And Cant beat the presentation with the Lobster tail laying on it. Nicely constructed and not just full of rice either. Then on the Suggestion of my Server I went with the Lava Roll. It did have a spicy kick to it. But wasnt overly hot. I definitely could of ordered Two of those. My Drink never fell low or anything. Friendly Sushi Chefs and Servers.

Sonoda Sushi / Udon noodle supreme good / Favorite dish, YUM! Well my coworker are probably wondering why there is clapping in rhythm of 5 and 7’s coming from my cubicle but they do not Unilocal so they wouldn’t understand. Now lets just hope my counting was right. I really like Sonoda’s. The Sushi has been good every time I have gone but really I think the star is the Tempura Udon Noodles. It is SO much food. The broth is rich and clean and dunking the Tempura veggies in it is just heaven in a bowl. I agree with the reviews the downstairs dining room is pretty strange but on a gloomy day go cuddle up with a lovely bowl of soup and write some Haiku.

I wanted to try their sushi but it just did not look great. Thought, okay I’ll just get a bento box(it was lunch after all). Oh wait, they don’t do those. Fine, I’ll take the beef teriyake lunch special. The soup that came with it was bland. The beef was stringy and the veggie mix was so overloaded with onions it was no good. The hot green tea had the weirdest flavor too. Wait…am I giving this place 2 stars when they really should get 1 star? I must be in a giving mood.

After a drink at Double Daughters we decided to stop in for some Sushi. Or let me say this, my friends wanted some sushi and I just happened to be with them. Yep, that’s right you guessed it I am NOT a sushi convert yet. I want to be because everyone loves it so much but it is really hard for me. I don’t know if it’s the texture or the fact that I am eating raw fish that gets me but I can’t seem to get there. With all this said, my friend got the Fancy Tuna Roll(looked great and she loved it, I got the Special Crispy Yellow Tail Roll, and my other friend got the California Rolls. They all looked and even smelled great. I had a couple of mine and they were good I think. I think I was trying to be fancy and pop the whole thing in my mouth but that requires a lot of chewing and I didn’t like the feeling of having my mouth that full. I liked this place so I give them a solid 3 stars, I might give them more if I like sushi, please someone tell me what to try that I would like? Anyone out there? Maybe next time I should try taking bites at a time. Is that the right way to at sushi?

A friend and I stopped by this place for lunch after doing some shopping, and I was nowhere near impressed by this place compared to all the other sushi places I’ve been to. Here’s why: 1) The space is bland, and the atmosphere wasn’t at all memorable enough to make me want to come back for it. 2) The sushi is also bland. Perhaps it’s fresh and authentic, but so are many other sushi places that offer many more interesting options. 3) The prices are a bit steep for something not that special. (Keyword of the day: BLAND) The service was good, but it just didn’t redeem everything else. Also, I just realized they don’t even have a website. This day and age, that’s just not good business.

I was walking down from the 16th Street Mall and found this place. I have been in the mood for sushi for quite some time(sashimi to be exact) so I figured I would try this location for a quick bite to eat. First impression… it was kind of uninspiring. After reviewing the menu, I realized the sushi here was not authentic and more Americanized then I prefer. The use of cream cheese and a lot of fried ingredients turned me off quite a bite. Instead of ordering Sashimi, I figured I would try a simple Spicy Tuna Roll. This seems pretty standard fare. While the fish and other ingredients tasted fine, there was something wrong with the rice. I don’t know what, but lets just say it didn’t taste like rice. After this experience, I wouldn’t go back. There is plenty of other good sushi restaurants within walking distance.

I visited this location in 2009 prior to going to a rock concert. Prior to that point, I had never been a big fan of sushi-barely consuming California Rolls. My friend treated me to shrimp tempura, a deluxe platter, and a spider roll. Shrimp tempura … Love it! Deluxe platter … I discovered that I really like eel, still depise scallops, and enjoy tuna and salmon but not in sushi form. Spider roll … um, I don’t know why people are so crazy about this. To me, it’s just like consuming anything else you should remove the shell from … just wrong. I felt like I was eating a crispy, hairy tarantula or biting into cooked shrimp with the shell intact or chewing on several sunflower kernels only to spew forth chewed kernel spittle. Also, we know the restaurant isn’t the most appealing inside and the tank of fish looks like it should be cleaned but … I’m easy. Lastly, eating outside is cool; however, you have to be prepared to be interrupted several times by the street sleepers.

Stopped by here because I was at Double Daughters down the street, but Two-Fisted Mario’s was closed for remodeling. They said we could bring in food from somewhere else since there wasn’t pizza available, so we went down the street and grabbed some sushi. There sushi is okay, I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. This one was just average. I like fish to be super fresh, and I don’t think this was. I do have to say they had excellent pineapple infused sake though… it was delicious! They’re sake selection overall was quite large, and I’d like to go back and try several other kinds they had available.

LOVE this place! After never having good sushi I was a little ‘eh’ to try another sushi place… but my husband swore this was the best in town so to appease him we went. And … WOW! For the last 2 years(for him 6) this has been my favorite place to eat. When family come to town, or clients, or just because it is happy hour we will go here. Usually we go for happy hour as a roll is around $ 5 so we can get out for about $ 30. We are also a member so we rack up rewards like no other! Their«Lava Roll» is one of our favorite with tempura, crab, saracha, a orangish sauce, and other items. Unagi roll, spider roll to name a few others are always on our list. The hot saki is buy one get one free and their edename is yummy too. I usually always get a bowl of miso soup as well and it is phenomenal! Also we found out recently when on a flight to Florida in a magazine that compared sushi places around the USA, that Sonada’s is listed as one of the top sushi places! Good to know that a land locked state can compete with Cali & Florida for hella great sushi!

The very first thing that made me feel just a little uncomfortable was the smell of fish. I mean I’m a Florida girl with a dad that loves deep sea fishing. I’ve caught my fair share of fish from mahi to grouper(and once even a shark) and watched my dad gut them so we could cook them up for dinner. The smell of fish doesn’t usually bother me. But, this was different. It smelled like warm, raw fish and that makes me feel uncomfortable when I’m just about to eat it. So, I only ordered rolls. And the rolls I ordered were nothing to speak of either. I had spicy tuna, eel and avocado, a specialty tuna roll and spider roll. The only one I really enjoyed was the eel and avocado because the avocado was so fresh. Two of them(the specialty tuna and spider) I only ate one piece of because they were bad. The spider tasted like wilted lettuce and the specialty roll was smothered in a mayonnaise sauce. I don’t blame the fact that I didn’t like the specialty roll on this place because I am just not a fan of mayo so I should have asked about all the ingredients. The service was nice, but based on the fish I’d rather spend my sushi dollars elsewhere.
