This is the type of Popeye’ s that has decent food and they usually manage to bag your assorted items up and give them to you. The contents are normally 90 or more percent correct. The food is almost always hot, and tastes like Popeye’s should taste. HOWEVER, if you go here after dark, and they are out of something, do not incorrectly assume that they anticipate replenishing the supply of the depleted item. If you ask them if they plan to, you will be leveled a critical gaze and delivered a sound that resembles the grunt a mother makes when her daughter asks at 13 if their boyfriend can sleep over with the door shut. In summary, not gonna happen. (If you want potatoes that bad, either wait till tomorrow, or go to the store and make them your damn self. Cause apparently it takes about 12 hours to warm up a new batch of potatoes and they ain’t got time for that.) The drive thru. It is shaped like a horseshoe. You may be thinking, all drive thru’s are shaped like a horseshoe. But alas my friend, this one makes the curve in totality along the side of the building. Picture a horseshoe lying next to a rectangle, with the open part of the horseshoe facing you. It makes for quite the cluster in the busy times. About 75% of the time, it moves at an acceptable pace. However, you can get trapped here, waiting in line, with no way out. So either toss the dice, or don’t pull in with someone in front of you. you could be in your car for the duration of the disaster unfolding in the transaction ahead of you. If you are traveling down River Road in Destrehan, pull up to the store and pop in. The chicken is always fresh.

I have eaten at this location a number of times.(I am reserving my fifth star for my favorite location elsewhere.) There is a drive-thru and an indoor ordering counter, though no actual dining room section to sit in. Everything is always hot and they cook the shrimp and chicken just as it should be. It has to be said that the help at several of the other fast food places in the area is known for being bad, so that really makes this one of the favorite places in the area for lunch. Who doesn’t love Popeye’s!
