New Center Grill

As an employee in the Fisher Building, I was excited to get a general cuisine restaurant. Somewhere to get a burger or a shawarma or chicken strips and fries. And after eating here several times, I’m still waiting.
The food is forgettable at best. What food is okay is nothing you can’t find elsewhere in the New Center area. The fries are kind of greasy and spongy. The burger is downright atrocious; you literally can’t tell the difference, in texture or taste, between the patty and the bun. It takes a true amount of skill to mess up THE most basic American menu item there is, but daggummit, they’ve done it. Great job!
But the true clincher, the thing that keeps me away, is the service. I had a horrible experience with the primary counter person, a short woman who wears a baseball cap quite often. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak sandwich (think a Philly cheesesteak but with chicken) and asked them to hold the lettuce, tomato and mayo. I get my food and everything is on there. I bring it to this abrasive harpy’s attention, and she tells me that 1) that’s not what she wrote down, and 2) I didn’t order it that way. When I tell her that yes, in fact, I DID order it and I know what I ordered, she again tells me I got what I ordered. But she takes the food and has a new one made (another 10 minutes of my lunch break down the tubes) as a courtesy. When the manager comes to talk to me, he tells me the sandwiches normally come with it, but I tell him the counter person didn’t write it down correctly and was rude to me. He shrugged and gave me the correct food without so much as an apology or a make-​good for a future order.
If that’s the kind of business they want to run, fine. Until that obnoxious, shrill, unpleasant fudgebag is fired, they won’t see a dime of mine. And maybe not even then, given the manager more or less supported his employee. Try New Center Eatery instead. It’s more of a walk, but it’s worth it.

I work in the Fisher Building and ate here finally. This place has no idea what type of restaurant they are; they have all sorts of random food choices. I had the steak quesadilla and it was grossly under seasoned and there wasn’t tons of flavor. The convenience would probably have me coming back sadly.

I eat here regularly. Probably once a week. Usually order the chicken after and have no complaints. Friendly staff. It is always packed around lunch so if your trying to get in and out call ahead.

I have been here a few times. Most recently I ordered the chicken shawarma platter. It was weird because some of the chicken was hot but most of it was lukewarm or room temperature. How does this happen? The hummus is not very good because of the texture. The only reason I came back is that there are few other restaurant options in this area.
