I usually am willing to give a place a second shot, but not this time around. I should have known from the awkward, non-friendly greeting we received when we walked in the restaurant that the whole experience was going to be shot, but I was hoping for a more polite waiter. That didn’t happen. Our waiter was extremely rude, very short, and flat out told me that what I wanted to order was bad and that he had to «take it back all the time for being so dry.» He then asked me if I liked tomato sauce and I clearly said no, so he suggested something else, which I ordered. He’s the waiter, right? He knows the menu. My lamb came and the entire side was swimming in… tomato sauce. It wasn’t unbearable, but on top of being in a sauce I generally do not like, it was SO bland. There was not a spice on it. My lamb(which was $ 25, by the way) was half on the bone, half on the plate, which is how it is presented. The lamb on the bone was SO hard and dry that it was basically inedible. The lamb on the plate was essentially all fat — including hard fat pieces. My son’s $ 6 kid’s meal was two tiny burnt chicken strips, not even a handful of fries, and no drink. We ordered the saganaki and I understand this is an «authentic» experience where the waiter does not put out the fire, but waits for it to die down itself, but when there is a three year old at the table, you would think common sense would roll in. I noticed none of the other waiters put the saganaki down still lit and ours did — with my three year old sitting at the table and the fire facing him. I wonder if they know anything about liability. He handed S the check and literally one minute later walked back, opened the book to see if payment was in it, and when there wasn’t, just kept walking without saying one word. Our bill was $ 60…and so, so not worth it. I cannot believe we shelled out that much for such a crappy experience. I almost slipped on whatever in the world they wax their floors with and no one said anything to us on our way out, even though there were a ton of employees standing around.

Had very bad experiance . We where group of 10, had a reservation. But waited more than half hours to be seated. Than more than 2 hours for the food to come. I ordered grilled red snapper, but came als steamed. Waited for grilled snapper, again half houre waiting. The other gang was already finsed with the food. The meat was way to dry. The green breans where not fresh. And overcooked. Also the green peas where from a tin so also not fresh. Floor was slippery. My girlfriend almost fall. So a BIGNOGO. This was januari 23, 2016.

Wow!!! Great Greek food. We stopped there after the Detroit Auto Show. Could not believe the vegetarian options available. The saganaki was to die for. Our waitress was amazing and fully satisfied our needs. My wife ordered the vegetarian duo and I ordered the vegetarian trio off of the dinner menu. We were so stuffed at the end of the meal, but the desert menu could not be ignored. Don’t pass this place up, you will not be disappointed.

BESTLAMBCHOPIVEEVERHADINMYLIFE! Hands down! I’m really not joking. I always get mine cooked medium. So juicy and meat is always fresh tasting. A must try if your in the greektown area. Also ask for the garlic and beet appetizer. It’s amazing. Must try place :)

Thought this place seemed like mediocre tourist food spot but was pleasantly surprised by my sit down visit for the horiatiki omelette that I came back tonight for the vegetarian pastitsio to go. It’s the best thing I’ve had so far in Greektown. I can’t wait to eat the other half for lunch tomorrow!

Really enjoyed my dinner at Pegasus! The flaming cheese appetizer is great and kind of a cool show when they bring it to the table. The bread here is absolutely outstanding. The hummus was some of the best I’ve ever had! For dinner I had the lamb gyro and it was pretty good, not outstanding but good. I would definitely go back again but would like to try something a little different for my main dish. Overall a great place to stop at while in downtown Detroit!

Seriously the worst experience I’ve had in any restaurant anywhere. Sloppy food, sloppy rude service, sloppy drinks. What a dump. Avoid at all costs.

Pegasus has a great Greek feel to it as soon as you enter. The music, the vines, dim lights, and bottles that make up the restaurants décor adds a nice romantic vibe! On to the food, well they have many things for vegetarians so kudos to them(We have a whole section on the menu)! I got the vegetarian trio, and though two out of three were delightful, I kinda wished that the trio was a little more fresh(& warm) when I bit into it! I knocked off a star because of this, however I didn’t mind too much because it was yummy! I will definitely be back again to try other vegetarian things on the menu! OPAAAAA.

I’ve been here twice and both times were great. Service was awesome and food was delicious. Their saginaki(sp?) is so good with their pitas. The gyros are for real, amazing.

Your not cool unless you order the saganaki! I counted at least 18 tables that ordered this delicious flaming cheese appetizer! From the second we sat down we had a free flaming cheese show every 5 minutes! This gorgeous Greek restaurant is huge! We came for brunch and it started to get busier as it got closer to lunchtime. This hidden gem in the downtown core of Detroit is amazing! The staff super friendly and attentive! Non stop water refills! Hi5! Would recommend more for a dinner since it is heavy food.

I went to this place with several friends after the first of this year after the ball drop in Detroit. The service was great. Our waiter was funny and after I ordered alfa beer, he said that the beer is great and made everyone order that beer. As soon as we sat down, they brought us water and bread. I ordered moussaka, and within less than ten minutes the food was ready which made me question the way they prepared the food. The food was not bad, but not good either. The taste was good, but it was so buttery. After we left, I had upset stomach cause of the fatty meal and had to stop at 711 to get vernors. So my advice to you is to get vernors if you want to eat here.

I usually love the chicken lemonata here. This past experience was not great. To start was terrible service from our rude waiter. We ordered saganaki for an appetizer. When the waiter brought it he also had two for a table near us. Lit them and yelled opa for the other table and then walked over throwing ours on our table. I ordered the chicken gyro. The chicken was very dry and parts were burned. The pita was served cold. My favorite tzatziki is a very small serving in a paper cup. I tired some of the dishes my family ordered and they were a little better, the moussaka is good. Next time I will be going across the street for better food and much better service.

First off who knew downtown Detroit was so much fun? We were there for Ohio State v Xichigan and stayed intown for the weekend. One of the highlights was Pegasus. For starters the 45 minute wait turned out to be about 15 minutes. As soon as the Red Wings game started, the place cleared out quickly. The bar staff was very… um…eclectic. Our server was the offspring of the soup Nazi and a russian mail order bride. Not too friendly and her best years may have been behind her. She was adequate and the drinks were fine. The Saganaki was en fuego!(get it :)) and rather tasty. It was odd that the the bread was free and there was a charge for pita? Who cares, its was only a buck or two True to its name the Pastitsio was decadent and so rich my teeth hurt after a few bites(but in a good way) Super good but super rich. The tourist special gyro plate was top notch and perfect for the occasion. We rounded things out with some meat balls and zantac. We loved the food, the atmosphere seemed to embody the neighborhood and we were super satisfied. Well done!

If it had not been for the best baklava I’ve ever consumed in my entire life, I would have given this place 3 stars. Basically, the place is pretty dated in terms of décor. It also could use a power washing. The floors were almost scary slick and I was wearing boots. Our waiter was nice enough. Their wine list was okay, I guess. Nothing particularly exciting. The bread basket could have been skipped, it was kind of crusty old bread. The saganaki was delicious. I got the moussaka for dinner and it was also excellent. I ate every bite. There was a busboy who was way too aggressive. He asked my friend literally like four times if she was done with her plates yet. The plates were still pretty full because she got a huge salad a thing of hummus. It kind of threw off our dining experience. For dessert we got baklava and some sort of phyllo dough and custard thing. The baklava was heaven!!! Oozing with honey and spices, full of walnuts. It was to die for. I don’t even really like custard and the other dessert was also delicious. I’d come back just to eat the baklava, truly.

Oh how I love this place! Been coming here for over 30 years, and it’s the best Greek restaurant in Greektown. Or anywhere in the metro Detroit area, for that matter. Excellent food and service. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for Greek food! Try the Greek caviar! It’s amazing! The moussaka is my favorite dish, but everything I’ve tried here is just perfect. You cannot go wrong with Pegasus.

There’s been a lot of buzz about this place. Lots of my friends say it’s the«best Greek restaurant», but I can’t say I was too satisfied. We got a bunch of dishes, Melitzanosalata was not too great, it was very vinegary and a little sour. Didn’t have that body you would expect from an eggplant. We had the village salad which was pretty good– similar to geek minus the lettuce but add the veggies. Perfect amount of dressing. We had the flaming cheese, which was never my favorite dish– the cheese is very rubbery, but that’s usually how it is. We had the spinach pie which was delicious– that was incredible and such a huge portion! Definitely had leftovers. We got the lamb shank which was listed under their«specials» for the day– my dad said it was amazing(I’m a vegetarian so I can’t vouch for that), and when they ran out of potato side they were very accommodating and brought green beans and rice to make up for it. We got the potato eggplant entrée which was also incredible. The entrees were much better than appetizers, saving grace for this review. It was really busy for a weekday and it seemed a bit understaffed. Our waiter did everything he could to make us feel important and not forgotten– hats off to him. Even brought an extra tiramisu for my moms bday when we ordered one for us. The white sangria is also a must if you enjoy white wine. It was really tasty and hit the spot on a warm summer night.

I’ve been coming here since I could walk and now as a adult I consider to be in my tops until recent visits. I went on a Wednesday and the service was exceptionally slow, it was not busy but yet it took about an hour to receive our dinners. While we sat waiting a critter landed in my drink so I started to look at the vines that have been there for years and they are filthy along with the lamps above the tables. All full of dust and who knows what else, if their dining area looks this way what does it look like where I can’t see. It’s a restaurant cleanliness should be a top priority, I took a picture of the lamp that was only about 2 ft off the table. Look if you dare!

Nopa! I want to love Pegasus Taverna, a staple of Greektown. It’s as iconic as the New Parthenon, and the winged horse greets visitors with such cheer. Unfortunately the Tavern is stuck in 1995, both in décor and service. It starts off promising, though the stained glass and dim interior do put me in mind of a Dick Tracy or film noir flick. The restaurant stretches on a long axis so it can accommodate even large groups with relative intimacy. The broad menu holds all the staples of Greek cuisine from horatiki salad to lamb gyros, and they don’t much differentiate from the other competition in the area. Food comes with a starter of bread, always appreciated. Unfortunately, consistency in food and drink is so spotty that I just can’t justify spending my money here. I came here for a work event, twelve ladies who set up reservations well in advance. All seemed to go well at the start, but the wheels fell off on our first order. Drinks came completely wrong and the carbonation in the pop machine was off. We tried to nicely bring it to the waiter’s attention and we ended up getting an earful from the manager on duty. When someone who arrived late asked about getting pop, he kept telling her, «It’s broken! How many times do I tell you it’s broken?» Ugh. We were polite about it, no one was complaining. We should have walked right then. Food portions are generous. Salads were the most popular entrée, but they were delivered missing additions like chicken; or the dressing. These are understandable somewhat, I guess, for a large group. Problem is, I’ve run into them dining solo or dining with my beau and others. They’ll forget to add something or to remove something(and for a friend who breaks out into hives with olives, this isn’t a case of disliking it. This means she’ll have a bad allergic reaction). I’ve never had a good response to quietly and politely pointing out something was in error. It’s always a huff or a sigh. Maybe I come at the wrong times. Maybe lunch just gets really busy or they have to put up with the grouchy casino comps. I don’t know, but the sour attitude and middling food(at best) don’t justify coming back regularly with New Parthenon and Santorini –right– there.

Consistently excellent! I’ve been coming to Pegasus for many years, and whether I’m dining here or at the St Clair Shores location, I’ve never been anything but delighted at the experience. Detroit’s Greektown district has been a fixture in the city for a long time. Many of the families that live and work here laid down roots over 100 years ago. This means the neighborhood has a naturally high expectation when it comes to the quality of its native cuisine. Pegasus fills the bill on every level possible. Their lamb is slow cooked and always comes out just dripping from the bone. The Saganaki is made with the finest cheese and flamed right at the table. Their baklava is always spot on, flaky and delicate. Service is always prompt, efficient, and effusive. I can’t recommend this place enough, come on down and see what the fuss is about!
