I have had my horse at PRF for about four months, but have been riding there since April. My horse just recently had a freak accident when her pasture mate(in semi private turn out) kicked her in the field. This could happen to any horse at any time, unfortunately it happened to mine. She was three leg lame when I found her and it was very traumatic. Anna, the owner of PRF, helped me get her out of the field and into her stall and we kept her comfortable until the vet arrived. Anna saw my distress, offered sweet tea and a hot bowl of chili while we waited for the vet. She was with me through the entire process. The vet was unable to x-ray my horse’s shoulder because she didn’t have the right machine. Once my horse was stable enough, Anna offered to take me and my horse to the Leasburg Equine Medial center, spent the entire day there with me and trailered her back after surgery. She is expected to make a full recovery. During my mare’s stall rest, her stall has remained clean, full buckets of water and plenty of hay(LOTSOFHAY) the entire time. I cannot say enough about the barn help that cleans the stalls — she is a caring and kind woman that goes out of her way to make the stalls ready and comfortable. Additionally, they make their own hay on this farm and it is very high quality. You don’t pay a surcharge for extra hay. I get there late in the evening, around 6:30 p.m. and my mare’s water buckets(2) are always full and she has plenty of hay after being in a stall all day. This farm is meant for hobby riders. It is not a fancy show barn, but the facilities are outstanding(great indoor and outdoor ring with lights so you can ride at night). The stalls are spacious and there is plenty of turn out. No more than ¾ horses in a field together at a time. They also have plenty of layup areas for horses that need a small turn out area while recovering. There are 50 horses on this property. For those that have left bad reviews, all I have to say is if you go looking for the bad you can find it anywhere. I am a devoted horses owner that is active and I talk to the BO about my horse’s care and do my part. PRF is a great value for its money, and there are also miles and miles of beautiful trails.

I would never again board my horse here. The owner frequently makes up stories and lies. She pretends that she knows more than the vets and is very difficult to deal with.

The owner/manager, Anna, has just revealed how she operates. I received 2 very long(saved) voicemails from her this weekend, after 7 months of silence. She says everything I am saying in my Unilocal review is not true, she maintains not an ounce of fault or err, has an appropriate lie in response for everything I claimed in my review, and has threatened to hire an attorney and sue me unless I remove, yes remove, my «negative» review. She says it’s negative, hurting her business, and is defamation of her character. Well, this character is now threatening to sue me for my honest Unilocal review. Laughable! And this my friends is exactly the drama you sign up for here. I moved my horse, with a broken leg, to get away from this. If that doesn’t speak loud enough, well then, good luck. It is my American right to express my opinion and experiences of a business on Unilocal. It is harassment to call me and threaten to sue me for telling the truth. I do not care about anyone else’s experience or review of this place. If you have a great experience, good for you. My horse is still in confinement healing from his broken leg, 10K later, and I still don’t know if I’ll ever be able to ride him again. I have posted these reviews for him and other horses who may be promised they’ll be provided with water. Am I calling her and threatening to sue her for negligence? No. Everyone needs to just move on.

I have been field boarding my mare Emma at Potomac Riverside since mid August of 2014. I didn’t even know a place like this existed. It’s Disneyworld for both Emma and I. Emma’s field is maintained, she always has a trough full of fresh water and there in no shortage of hay. She has a huge run in shed that is always kept clean. OH and that’s just her WINTER field. Yes my friends, there are 2 fields for each group of field boarded horses. The summer field has a run in shed as well with a top but sides that don’t go all the way to the ground, to facilitate air movement. Crazy good thinking!!! That is just the tip of the iceberg, Ana and her husband, along with everyone who lives and works on the farm think and work smart. The details are what really sets this place apart. My horses abscessed when I first got to Potomac Riverside because of a lingering problem from her old farm. Ana informed me immediately and had the vet out at the farm with Emma in a stall and wrapped up before I could get out of my pjs. Yes, she’s amazing! Even better, when Emma had to be stall bound for about a week, Ana didn’t charge me extra(as I am only a field boarder). Ana made sure my mare had everything she needed and had received all of her medications. The greatest asset for me, a boarder who can only come out a couple times a week at most, is the assurance I have with the farm, Ana and all those who work for Ana. During the snow we just had(that was a nightmare for anyone, especially anyone who has a farm!) the field my mare was in had a full trough of water NOTFROZEN! and tons of hay! I know that if I can’t make it to the barn, everything is okay, and that my mare is happy and well fed. For myself, and I would assume any horse owner, that is the top most priority. I literally can’t say enough about this place, oh and the endless trails, gorgeous rings and huge indoor are just a bonus :)

Horse and rider paradise! We have boarded at this stable since 2009. The stalls are huge. The owner has extra horses that can be rented so that you and your pals can ride on the 400 acres of the farm or ride on the canal if you need an extra horse. There are three outside arenas and a gigantic indoor. Because we show a lot and stay overnight at other stables, we are familiar with a lot of barns. PR is by far the best. Horses get great care. The owner is diligent, and the staff is reliable and knows horses. If you have a problem here, you have a problem every where.

So I found the field with the downed tree and damaged fence. I also understand why it’s been given a low priority on the list of things to do. It’s at the bottom of the field in a heavily wooded area with heavy under brush. I can’t see any horse wanting to leave a perfectly good field full of yummy grass to wander into thickets full of thorns. My experience so far has been great. I got some great advice from the owner(who worked as a vet tech for 15 years) on how to improve the condition of my horse’s hooves and the owner always goes out of her way to greet everyone and chat for a bit when time permits. I have seen the barn hands cleaning stalls and moving horses to other stalls to accommodate the clean up process. My horse is fed her SmartPak supplements daily. The indoor arena as well as the outdoor dressage and jumping rinks are groomed and kept neat daily. I don’t know. Maybe since my horse has always been field boarded, she knows how to keep herself out of harms way. Winter is coming and all of the horses have been moved from their summer fields to their winter fields. Let’s see how the coming months go and I will update this review afterwards.

I wouldn’t board my horse there if the owner paid me to keep my horse there. She needs a shrink and she really doesn’t know that much about horses.
