I enjoyed my visit to Madava Farms, maker of Crown Maple Syrup and other products, during the NY Maple Weekend( ). This ain’t no sugar shack, sugar — this is a multi-million dollar upscale manufacturing operation taking in zillions of gallons of sap from their land and land leased in the community, filtering it, cleaning it, cooking it down, and making goodies like delicious syrup(some flavored with amaretto, rum, or bourbon), maple cotton candy, hot chocolate, etc. I loved the popcorn and the granola — delicious. Located at the end of a rough road in beautiful Duchess County, Madava has a gift store, an eatery serving upscale sandwiches, a large open area where the sap is being cooked down(smells like heaven), and a lovely tasting room. Madava seems like it was designed to be a destination spot for tourists, weddings, and other events. In better weather you can explore the grounds.
