My girl and I stayed three nights during Xmas week. We reserved a room in the North Inn for the Relax and Rejuvenate package. When we arrived at the resort, they upgraded us to a room on the 3rd floor — unfortunately, the room was filled with fruit flies. On Wed, we get our couples massage(that is included in package), and it was the worst massage either of us has ever had. My girl and I have had plenty of massages, with most being at Umstead… so we know a good massage when we feel it, and this definitely wasn’t even close to being good. In any case, we told the assistant spa mgr our experience upon leaving the spa. On Thu, I receive a call(late morning) on my cell from the resort while we were out & about — the resort wants to give us a complimentary soak that is good until 2pm(as the spa is closing for Xmas, etc). I informed that this would not work for us, and that was it. They didn’t offer us anything else… only what was convenient for them. The good; room upgrade and resort’s location. The bad; fruit flies in the upgraded room, bad massages, and poor marks to make good on the bad massages.

Reserved a suite at the Sanderling for 7 – 10 December. We were looking forward to this and pleased with the Heroes(Veteran) deal. Regrettably, Sanderling called 9 days out and said they just scheduled maintenance for the building with suites and would have to move us to a room(not a suite) in a different building. No concession, same price. Not ok. Sanderling had already charged our credit card for the full stay and said they would refund it. Should not have booked us in a suite if they couldn’t honor it, and should have offered a concession for a change to lesser quality accommodations.

Can’t say enough about The Sanderling. The oceanfront rooms are wonderful. The sunrises were spectacular. The campus of the hotel is elegant yet warm and welcoming. So glad we had the chance to stay here. I will never forget it.

We just returned from 3 nights at The Sanderling Inn. It was a perfect time. I had called months earlier and received good advice about the best rooms for good views and various options available. When we arrived, the staff was attentive and the fact that gratuity is included with the cost of the room is very helpful. Our rate also included breakfast, and that was a very generous meal, very admirably prepared. Although it was stormy, and we were not able to take advantage of the beach or the pool, the room and the entire experience was very nice. If we go back to Duck, we will return to the Sanderling Inn.

This is a wonderful place to stay and Duck is a gorgeous town, but be aware that the Sanderling is charging St. Regis or Ritz Carlton prices for something that’s not on that level. The rooms, service and amenities are all good but not amazing. You have to ask for the things that other places provide to you: newspapers, an extra beach towel, etc. Before you book, I suggest calling and talking through your room selection — many of the ocean-facing rooms lack privacy(the bar or the pool is steps away).

Wow. I was really disappointed! I went with my sister(the bride) and my mom to get pedicures for my sisters wedding. My mom and I paid for the same service but had different people. I don’t know what the girl’s name was, but I know she just said she came back from Costa Rica. When we first got there we waited an hour to even get our feet done. The woman had me come in and put my feet in the water which was scalding hot. The woman who was helping my mom took her handbag and hung it up. The woman I had, let me just put mine on the floor and didn’t offer to hang it up. When she was doing my cuticles she nicked me. Ouch! I saw my mom get a callous remover on her feet which is very necessary in a pedicure. The woman I had, started to paint my toes and I asked about the callous remover because it was pretty needed. She said«I don’t have anything for that, that would me the more expensive pedicure.“What?! I JUST saw my mom get it on her feet! We paid $ 45.00 to essentially do what would have cost $ 15.00 at another pedicure location. To top it all off, my mom was offered her Emery board and told they never reuse things. I had to ask for mine. Rude! I will never go back there.

This place was AMAZING! The service was friendly, professional and overall impeccable! My wife and I ordered room service for a cheeseburger, fries and a couple of milkshakes; they brought us chicolate milk instead. They apologized for the misunderstanding and were told that they don’t serve milkshakes. Five minutes later they brought us two delicious milkshakes the made themselves just for us. Love the little different«nooks» around the common areas where you can just sit, relax, read or do whatever. Our balcony/patio was cozy with beautiful ocean view. Spa was wonderful, beach access with beach lawn chair service was nice and convenient, firepit with the complimentary s’mores packet was a nice touch, and so was the nightly turn down service with the saltwater taffy. Well worth every penny!

We went to the Outer Banks for a wedding in June. We have never had an extended stay in the area and were really looking forward to the trip. The Sanderling was by far the most beautiful resort in the area. The sleeping rooms are quite large and I believe all of them have a porch. The lobby is lovely and the upper lobby even better. A wonderful spot to relax and read or just sip a cup of tea. The beachfront is gorgeous and the staff attentive. The pools are terrific as well. The staff is friendly and helpful. Each morning there is coffee and tea in the lobby for all to enjoy. The restaurants on site are very good as well and the lobby bar is welcoming. A terrific place for a great getaway if you can afford the price. My only issues were that we requested an early check in and we did not get into our room until after 3. Also the sleeping rooms could use a little more or better lighting. But all in all a great place!

We stayed two nights here for a wedding. Since it’s included in that ubiquitous, «1000 things to do» book, I had pretty high expectations going in. Nothing about the resort will blow you away right out the gate, but it has a charm that grows on you with time. Lots of thought was clearly put into the details, from the extra large hooks in the bathrooms for wet bathing suits and towels to the sturdy umbrellas in the closet for passing thunder showers. The wedding was lovely and the staff was all friendly and attentive. The beach is lovely and fun to explore with all the crabs and shells. My baby loved the pool and hot tub too.
