I loved this place. It is a great, short history of the biggest, fresh water lake in the world. There is a lot to do, and a lot to see. It is located right on the banks of Lake Superior, so you can walk down to the shore, too. There are examples of different types of boats, different types of anchors, and even two types of light house. If that weren’t enough, there is a very unique bridge nearby that lifts and lowers to allow ships to pass in and out from the lake to the shipping channels. This is a fun, free museum with plenty of interesting artifacts, lots to see, and lots to learn. It is especially cool for kids, and people not from the region.

Husband hadn’t been here yet. Enjoyed reading the exhibits and seeing the great views of the lake. I play tour guide to a family from Alexander, MN that had never been to Duluth before. Employee(male) at desk didn’t seem to want to answer questions or help them.

(as the first reviewer of this visitor center, I don’t think I’ll be giving it justice… but here goes). Best perk: the only free bathrooms in this part of Duluth at the canal. They’re right inside the door, and you don’t have to feel like you’re dodging a part of the exhibit or anything. Can’t believe their website is this simple: It’s a free museum to walk around in and learn a little bit more about the Corps of Engineers. Not a large museum, but very informative. Nice place to take the out-of-towners to if they’ve never been. It’s smack dab under the shadow of the lift bridge, so it’s in a popular location.
