To be honest, we went having higher expectations for a good Italian meal. But we were disappointed. The place was mostly empty and they didn’t have the heat on – it was just 40 degrees outside. It was probably in the 50s inside. The eating utensils were very cold when we picked them up. This was a bad sign. We felt the food was mediocre. The entrees were very tasteless and bland — we seemed to think they may have been microwaved to reheat them. The coffee seemed like it had been sitting for a while or was reheated. In concept, the menu looked good but the food was disappointing. We had no issue with our server. He filled out water many times. We are not planning to return.

Had one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We were celebrating Valentines day a few days late and were hoping for a nice romantic meal with good food. Happy to say we were able to achieve that. We started off with the oysters and stuffed artichoke. Both were great as usual. I usually order the lobster ravioli which is delicious but decided to go with the Lamb shanks that everyone brags about. They were out of this world delicious. The meat was so tasty and fell right of the bone. I can’t recommend them enough. My husband had the sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly. This is one meal we will be talking about for a long time. Can’t wait to return.

Came here on a Saturday at 6pm. Unfortunately they lost our reservation, but there were few tables still open because we came before the rush. I should’ve known that this was the start to disorganized service… The food was pretty delicious and just the right portion per person. We enjoyed the black pasta special with seafood and their regular seafood linguine. The penne vodka sauce was more red than pink which was disappointing but honestly still delicious and flavorful. We asked for pasta instead of potatoes for our veal Marsala and while the server offered us linguine in a Marsala sauce(great!) we ended up with veal Marsala and potatoes… They eventually got us the pasta. Getting refills on water took extra effort, as well as trying to flag down our really busy server for spoons, cracked pepper, and cheese, after he ran off before offering it to everyone. I was relieved when the owners/managers came by to help out. The homemade tiramisu was delicious, but for $ 9 it was a TINY piece absolutely drenched with what tasted like Hershey chocolate sauce and cherry liquid sauce… on tiramisu really? That’s the first! So overall tasty food, but maybe best to come when it’s not so busy in order to have a delicious and delightful dining experience. So for now I feel compelled to drop from a 4 to 3 stars.

We had our work holiday dinner at Il Mulino last night and it was wonderful. Jim was a pleasure to work with and the price couldn’t be beat for the quality and quantity of food we received. The service was excellent as well. Thank you again for a terrific evening!

Enjoyed the lamb shank with risotto tonight after scarfing down half a dozen raw oysters. The oysters were plump and delicious — fresh as can be! The lamb shanks were braised to perfection with a gravy that was buttery smooth, rich as could be… dense, dynamic flavor profile… and the risotto with mushroom stock made a perfect accompaniment. Another fabulous night of Italian cuisine and great hospitality!

Had my first dining experience recently and have to admit it was disappointing. Typical American Italian menu with wait staff who cannot properly pronounce Italian menu items. Bartender was green as well. If you like heavy sauce and cheese dishes like parmigiana then you’ll be fine. If you are expecting authentic Italian then this is not it.

Il Mulino is the finest Italian restaurant we have ever frequented and that includes restaurants in Italy! Service is impeccable and for the many years we have been patrons, we have never been disappointed once. We have also had several catered affairs through Il Mulino and the food is always outrageously delicious. Jimmy, the owner, his lovely daughter and the rest of the staff go well out of their way to provide a top notch dining experience with each and every visit.

Came here for my BFFs uncle’s surprise birthday dinner. She planned it all which was easy since he’s a regular. Like an every Friday regular. We were among the first people here and among the last to leave and everything was great. I don’t quite know of all the details, but we brought our own wine and our glasses were never empty. The service was fantastic, always someone nearby for more water, more Parmesan. We had a full Italian dinner, with salad, pasta, a main and dessert. We never felt rushed or like an imposition, just guests. Everything was delicious, which is coming from someone who doesn’t actually like Italian food all that much. The owner stopped by several times to check-in with us, making the birthday boy feel truly appreciated.

This is a very good Italian restaurant that delivers a delicious and high-quality product every time. It’s really good for an event, holiday or your typical«nice evening out.» I love the BYOB concept. The ONLY reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it is very typical for this genre, fine Italian dining in Bergen County. Off-hand, I can think of at least 20 extremely similar restaurants within a five-mile radius, including: Buongiorno’s Ristorante(also in Dumont), Buon Gusto in Closter, Vicolo Ristorante in Old Tappan, Giancarlo in Westwood and Armando’s in Rivervale(which I find a bit more unique than the others). That’s why it’s a great place to frequent, but I wouldn’t go there if I was looking for that truly special place for a very special occasion. In other words, take mom there for a great Mother’s Day dinner, but it’s not the place for a marriage proposal.

Il Mulino is an excellent restaurant, with outstanding food and service. As other reviewers have mentioned there are many different options to choose from on the menu, and A LOT of different specials. I’ve also had a private party at the restaurant. All of my party guests raved about the food, and service. I definitely plan on dining here again in the future, as well as, holding another event. It is a great place to hold a party as it is BYOB, which helps in keeping the total cost of the event down.

Solid Italian place. Eggplant parm was delicious. Service is on point. Stuffed artichoke app was nicely prepared. BYOB. Good portion sizes and fair prices.

Food is excellent! The place reminds me of the dining room at an expensive assisted living facility. All the patrons are close to 100 years old… Other than that I shall return!!! Parking is at the CVS across the street.

The food here is delicious! I always come in for dinner or order takeout. I would suggest trying their breaded tilapia with Dijon mayo. On Saturdays they’re usually packed so reservations are usually the best way to go. The owner, Jimmy, is such a friendly and sweet guy. Really cares about all his customers and their experience at his restaurant. Also It’s BYOB or bring your own wine

I got a gift certificate for Christmas from my son to this place. It’s a BYOB and that’s cool. I have to tell you as for the food, I had the penne a la vodka and my son had some other pasta dish it wasn’t nothing to write home about. The place looks nice inside but I know I won’t be returning because the one thing I cherish is really good food and this didn’t measure up.

Home style Italian food with a great atmosphere for friends and family. The appetizers were savory and the main course was delicious and exactly what my Friday night called for. The ambiance is very nice and the service is top notch! Will visit again. Salute!

A classic favorite for my husband and I! We have been coming here for 5 years and the food is always great. There’s always a long list of specials. I love the squid ink pasta with lobster and scallops. Make sure you save room for dessert. The lava cake is awesome!
