I happily checked out Rescued Treasures Thrift Shoppe this weekend, a branch of the Durham Rescue Mission thrift shops, and was pleasantly surprised. As Christian G. mentions in her review, thrifting at this location gave me a reminder of my own wastefulness, watching a lady standing in front of me walk away when some adult clothes rang up for more then she planned($ 1.99 instead of $.99). I was apprehensive that I’d find anything useful at this location as it’s rather small, and thus can get rather crowded as well, but they had a nice selection of furniture and tons of appliances and electronics as well as the usual smattering of clothes, etc. They also use Bull City Bucks at this location which is just as added benefit since Durham Rescue Missions from my experience tend to run a bit more expensive then Good Wills in the area.

I can only speak to their donations drop-off area, since I only had time to drop and go. This place was easy to find, though google maps tried to take me to the south side of 55(from 40). Easy to spot from the road, clear signage out front and ample parking. You go around to the back to drop off your donations and I had this really nice hound gentleman help me with my big box of clothes. You full out a receipt(if you want one), and he made wonderful chit-chat while doing so. HUGE store from what I saw, and they have a LOT of stuff. Might come back to see what they have inside next time. DEFINITELY a great cause, and I was happy I chose this place over other possible clothing donation options.

Not as much variety as its larger counterpart but still has friendly staff and good finds! This is a great place to thrifting if you have the time and patience to go through all the stuff they offer

I love how everything is arranged by sizes, which makes it that much easier to shop. I’ve scored some great deals here. like a brand new pair of slacks from New York & Co. & a pair of Jessica Simpson suede platforms for only $ 5.00.holler! If you’re ever there while Mike is working he will keep you stitches the entire time, a great guy! I agree with fellow Unilocaler Jennifer W, I almost hate to tell anyone about this place!

Standing in line to check out here — while one woman regretted making so many purchases as to total $ 25, and another decided to put back a purse when she learned it was priced at $ 2.99 — really made me think hard about how materialistic and wasteful I am. I moved recently, and realized just how much stuff I’d acquired over the last few years; many items made their way into a yardsale pile, and I’m sure many of them will eventually make their way in a donation box to a place like Rescued Treasures. So, after this reflection, I’m making it a mission this year to be a little more conscious of spending decisions. Anyway, moral of the story aside, I was really impressed with the size and layout of this thrift store. It’s mostly comprised of clothes, and they’re very well organized — by section(men’s, women’s, boys, and so on), by type(pants, blouses, dresses), and then sub-sorted by size or by color, depending on the garment type. I was looking for a skirt to complete a costume I’m putting together, and quickly found the size and color I needed. And right next to it, I found an adorable navy Talbots skirt that buttons up the center and ties with a bright red belt — for $ 2.99! All the clothes were in good to new condition and looked clean. On one wall, you’ll find the«library» — hardcovers at .75 and paperbacks even cheaper — maybe 8 shelves of books, and all categorized by genre; along with records, VHS cassettes, and some CDs. Beyond that there are some old CRTTV’s and computers. On the other end of the shop, you’ll find furniture, kitchen items, toys for kids, and other odds and ends. The furniture is all pretty worn, but it’s also bargain-priced. Of particular interest were two vertical filing cabinets — one military green, and one vanilla that were so vintage-looking, I knew they’d be perfect for somebody’s shabby-chic office. And priced at just $ 12 apiece! On check-out, they had a flier posted about an Easter Dinner they’re serving for in-need families: free meal, free bag of clothes to take home, just a cool community endeavor. I asked the cashier about the charity — Durham Mission — and was told they help with homelessness in Durham, and have a 1-year«Victory» Bible-based program designed to get people back on their feet and employed. He himself was a graduate of the program. They accept donated goods, and seem like the sort of organization that’s doing some good in Durham — one worth supporting!

Really, really clean. Everything is nicely arranged by item, size, and color. There’s a nice chaukie selection. I docked them a star for the unsellable junk is that is mixed in with the lovely treasures. And, as a bonus, I scored 3 skirts, 2 pair of shorts, a pair of pants, a large milk glass vase, a lamp, and a Danish modern cheese tray for $ 11.83! Wow, I almost hate to tell y’all this, we may be competing for the same stuff!
