Went here to get a wig installed. Three days later and I’m taking it out. It looks very artificial and does not feel natural. I asked them to take the stitches out and they are charging. My experience is when you go to a place and are not happy with something they fix it. Not them. Not going back.

After giving a good review I will NOT be returning to this place. I don’t understand how my price has gone up from $ 60 to $ 80 to $ 140 for the same service. When I asked the other day why am I paying so much for this when I payed a different price the last time Tina’s response was«because it took a while for her to do your hair.» Stay away from this place!

I would not recommend this place. I had a similar experience as one of the other reviewers. I went to this salon about 2 times and had decent service, the third time was terrible. The salon itself is no frills and a little unorganized looking. On the main street in East Orange so be prepared to drive around for parking and be harassed by the locals. The owner and staff in general were somewhat pleasant. One time the owner also let me pick out a gift — hair oil or something of that sort. My problem with this place is I went here got the same hairstyle and the 3rd time when I went to pay she told me I had to pay a significant amount more then she quoted me and what I paid before. That is bad business! I talked to her in private and she did not budge. I went there with the exact amount of cash and had to write the difference in a check and pretty much shorted the actual stylist a tip because I was not prepared for that charge. Nothing was different then the times before — same length, style, brought my own hair etc. I was extremely turned off and never returned. There is so much competition for hair braiding in the vicinity I would think owners would be fair in pricing. The charge should not be on what you think the customer can afford or what amount of money you need to bring in for the day.

I called to make an appointment, I told her(Tina who wears an AWFUL blonde weave/wig) that I wanted kinky twists, medium length. She says that is great because she is running a special of $ 65 M-W, I couldn’t believe my ears I was like that is GREAT!!! I will be there tomorrow. I purchased my own hair(4 packs) and took it with me. I got there at 9am per my appointment so that I would be the first one there, and all of the stylists were already working on someone else. Anyway, I had to wait about a half hour before I was even serviced. This would have been fine if I were a walk in, but I made an APPOINTMENT which to my understanding was the first slot of the day. Ok, so once my hair is braided(they did a decent job, not the best but not bad either) I go to pay and she tells me $ 110. Now mind you I brought my own hair, and this was my second time going here, my first time I was charged the same price and hair was included. So how is it the same price as if I didn’t bring my own hair??! So anyway, I brought 4 packs of hair, and I have been kinky twists for about 8 years and have NEVER used more than 3 packs. She used ALLFOUR packs and then actually ran out and they had to use some of their hair for about TEN braids, that is all, no exaggeration. So then Tina was like oh the $ 65 special is for the really short twists(and she pointed to her ear for length reference). And then she was like«and you used some of our hair 0_o) I said I told you what I wanted over the phone, and I would never agree to a short style because HELLO my REAL hair is longer than that!!! Which doesn’t make any sense, my hair is collar bone length which is why I told her medium length over the phone NOT short. So I had already tipped my stylist $ 10 and I had planned to give Tina the $ 65. And she got all pissed and I’m like hello you quoted me $ 65, anyway, I gave her $ 10 extra and told her I already tipped the other girl $ 10. So I ended up paying $ 85 out of pocket. No way was she getting $ 110 after quoting me $ 65. Now that I think about it, I shouldn’t have paid a dime more than she quoted me. I will never return here, because I am not a fan of shady business practices, and I do not appreciate being TRICKED into having a service done and then told a different price at the end. If I were going to pay $ 110, a. I wouldn’t have spent $ 20 on purchasing my own hair since it was the same price and b. I wouldn’t have traveled from Jersey City to go to East Orange. I would’ve gone down the street from my house if I were going to spend $ 110. I made the trip because of the ALLEGEDSPECIAL. DON’T GOHERE!!!

There’s a bevy of hair salons and hair braiding places on Central Avenue, but I chose Tina’s because… well I’m not sure why. But I did and here’s the scoop. Tina, the shop owner is usually here every day taking calls and making appointments. There’s two ladies that I’ve seen working here, but there’s very possibly more. Wigs for sale, random leather jackets, wefts of hair, and beauty products crowd the countertop. Not the best organization, but that’s not what I was here for. My hairdresser was really nice. Scrubbed the hell out of my scalp like I wanted her to. She worked quickly and efficiently on my braids, even while cracking up with her co-worker over a previous customer who thought she was queen of the world. I wasn’t uncomfortable at all during this time, which is rare for most braiding shops who yank at your head hard in order to tighten the braid. So, in two hours, my hair was done and I look all mermaidy again, AND I watched two action packed episodes of Judge Judy! Tina also threw in a free bottle of hair oil which was awesome. My hair ran me about $ 120, so it’s not a great value, but my hair looking good more important to me. I’ll be back here soon!
