Like other reviews, my only interaction with this local yarn store has been online. However I am extremely satisfied with their service online. I don’t always jump on their deals but they have a decent selection and shipping is fast and free! I’m happy to support a small business that has a successful e-commerce page. I typically don’t buy my yarn anywhere else!

If you look at my check-ins, you’ll see that I spend an inordinate amount of time here. But that wasn’t always the case. I wasn’t planning to become a slightly-obsessive knitter five years ago, but that’s exactly what happened. My journey to knitterhood was many years in the making, and one sock class at Village sealed the deal. I tried learning to knit a few times when I was growing up, and nothing stuck. Finally, five years ago, the knitting supplies were still there and a few Youtube videos later, I was hooked(wait, I still don’t know how to crochet! Maybe I should say«stitched»?). My first time at Village was nothing to sing home about. I wasn’t taken seriously as a customer and I didn’t think too highly of the service I received. Luckily, my friend invited me to take a sock knitting class with her and I got to know the staff and the yarn. Turns out, this store thrives on repeat interaction. Just as I got to know them, they got to know me too. I ended up being being extremely lucky from that class: I got to know some cool people, cool yarn, and got to learn that I seriously can’t stand knitting socks. The yarn selection here is great. Like any local yarn shop, they have a decent variety of brands and sizes. If you’re really into Berroco or Malabrigo, there’s a ton of that on hand. Berroco Vintage was my first«grown up» yarn purchase and I still have some of that first skein left over. Thursdays are sit-and-knit nights, where we all camp out and work on our projects together in a casual environment where no one is competitive. I’ve often relied on the group to help me fix my many mistakes and crowdsource opinions on patterns and yarn choices. Village Yarn and I have our ups and downs, and sometimes I need to stay away from weekly knit nights to remember why I like the hobby and company so much. But Village will always hold the key to my knitter’s heart, as the place where I established my preferences for the craft.

I visited this shop on a recent business trip o Rochester. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The have a large selection of name brand yarns — Cascade, Opal, Berroco, just to name a few. The have a very large selection of books and booklets and an entire floor to ceiling bookcase of binders of individual patterns. In addition to the selection of yarn and patterns, they have a good selection of needles, notions, and buttons. This shop is definitely on my list of shops to visit when I return to Rochester!

Wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable staff and a fantastic selection of yarn. The only thing that could be improved is the selection of circular needles because periodically sizes are sold out. Otherwise no complaints at all.

I’d give a million star rating if I could! This store is run by a friendly, kind, and knowledgeable group of women that Rochester area fiber lovers are blessed to have amongst them. They are always eager to help with anything you might be working on, but never pressure you to buy. I’ve never encountered salespeople who better understand that it’s not always about how much you can get a customer to spend in that moment — that instead, the more helpful you are to your clientele, the more business you’ll get in the long term because you create an environment that people are eager to be a part of and share with their friends. They are patient with rambunctious little ones like mine, too! They even have a small basket of toys in their sitting area to help keep kids occupied, giving mom(or dad or whomever) a little more time to luxuriate in all the wonderful things the shop has to offer. In case you are looking for a couple more reasons to go, their prices are great — cheaper than online retailers, in many cases! Also, their selection is awesome. The Village Yarn & Fiber Shop is my heaven — and if you’re into knitting, crocheting, and/or spinning, it is yours too. Don’t waste another minute — go, go, go!!!

This is such a cute little shop that has a very wide selection of yarns in various price ranges. The staff was very helpful when I visited the shop and gave me plenty of space to browse. They also offered me participation in their Dizzy Sheep program that touts $ 1 shipping! Can’t beat that. I only gave 4 stars because I felt their selection of sock yarn wasn’t as full as I’d prefer, but I’ll definitely be back to this shop next time I’m in town.

Karen and Carl Rock! I’ve never been to their shop, but I have purchased from them. They run the infamous«The Dizzy Sheep» site which has daily deals on different types of yarn. Recently, I purchased one of the«Dizzy Deals» for my first sweater. About 24 hours after I made my virtual purchase I realized I didn’t buy enough. So I e-mailed them about it. First off, it was late when I e-mailed them and Carl still replied back immediately despite the late hour. When I called later that day(just after they had closed the shop and were running their backup) Carl happily took my call so I could purchase more yarn. But that isn’t all they did. I had some concerns about the color I purchased as well — that’s when I spoke with Karen. Even though the deal had come and gone(and the information she needed was not at her finger tips) she pulled it up for me so we could discuss specifics. All the while, they were fine with me canceling my order if I so wished. After some discussion I decided to purchase the extra hank of yarn. Shipping was fast as well! No, I haven’t exactly been to their store, but if I got such stellar service over e-mail and the phone I can only imagine what it would be like in person. Thank you so much Karen and Carl! And, I promise that if I’m ever in the area I will be sure to stop by.
