I don’t remember how it was that Mr. L(Recruiter at TCI) came to find me, but as it happened I *was* looking for a new job when he called about a Senior/Director-level job with a high-tech firm, so I didn’t blow him off. I don’t deny that recruiting is a tough job, and I realize they are paid by the company searching for employees and that their loyalty lies with the«hand that feeds them». I also know that companies often put a job out to several recruiters, so job-seekers DO have choices! If Mr. L or TCI calls you, exercise your choice to do business with someone else! Mr. L, although a charming man on the phone, simply did not manage his corporate clients well. He did not seem to have a good handle on what his client really *wanted* and did not manage the interview scheduling process well — I won’t bore you with the horror stories of hours in lobbies! But, most of all, he simply had horrible follow-through. In my case, he called at the last minute to reschedule a 3rd round of interviews, saying the client was very interested and he would call me back the following week to confirm times. I never heard from him again. I finally called him back and he told me very nonchalantly that they had hired someone else(in-house, as I recall) for the position. So, as nearly as I can tell, as soon as he no longer stood to make a commission on the hire, all communication and basic courtesy with great candidates(the bread and butter of his business) disappeared. If some % of my first year’s salary is going to go to someone for matchmaking me with me the job, I want it to go to someone who treats candidates with respect. By the way, Mr. L, I appreciate your call(now 2 years later) about some other position. And yes, I recently moved and am looking again, but you are drinking some STRONG Kool-Aid if you think I’ll waste my time doing business with you again.
