This place was recommended by my uncle. The cinnamon pancakes, which they are suppose to be famous for, were a huge disappointment. I ordered an omelet and it was not good. I would skip this place if you are a breakfast lover like I am!

We went there for breakfast on a Friday morning & there were 2 in our party. One of us ordered eggs & turkey bacon. The bacon was not cooked to crispness & had a peculiar taste. I ordered eggs & crisp bacon. When my order came the bacon was completely charred. I asked the waitress to replace it, which she did, but it was obvious it was completely burned when she brought it. Why didn’t she take care of it prior to bringing it to the table? The second batch had half of the bacon not cooked & the other half burned. This was our 2nd visit to Blue Gilly’s with similar issues. Considering they are around $ 2 higher than most of their competition I think we will save our money in the future. When a restaurant seems to be challenged to even produce a simple egg breakfast, I think we need to go elsewhere.

Went based off of Unilocal reviews. Service was terrible, took forever to get the food and the food was mediocre at best… How do you screw up breakfast?! Sausage links were microwaveable… Not worth your time, so many better places!

My husband and I had brunch here today. The bluegill was very well done :) I really loved the cranberry walnut pancakes, they were nice and light and fresh tasting however, they were overpriced. You can sell me two small pancakes for 7 $ once, but probably not twice. We did come at a busy time and were seated fairly quickly but waited a long time for our food. For a small place they had an abnormally large wait staff. It was noticed twice that we had no water by two different people but we still didn’t get water until we asked a third time. All in all, although the food was well prepared and tasty, we probably won’t come again. It was just not special enough for the price.

This is a fun surprise on the route from Madison to Chicago. Delicious breakfast goodies and fried blue gill that’s excellent.

Ate at this restaurant this morning. My wife had a half order of biscuits and gravy topped with an egg over-medium. She is a biscuits and gravy snob and is very picky about said meal. She loved it. Flying colors. Everything homemade and fresh. I ordered a pier ten(which I think was called a standard breakfast), two eggs, three sausage links and two pancakes(plain — they feature a lot of toppings). I also ordered a side of their seven-grain toast(which very good and fresh). So eggs are eggs. They were over easy and well, like I said, they’re eggs. I prefer sausage links that have a casing. These did not but they tasted fine. The pancakes have a fair amount of almond flavor and I didn’t expect that. I thought the almond overpowered the pancake(so a thumbs down for me). I suppose the almond flavor might enhance the pancakes when combined with the decadent toppings. But I don’t care for all the extras. Service is very good. Prices are very reasonable. Portion size is very good. Great value. Nice clean family friendly restaurant.

Okay. This is a hidden gem in Wisconsin. The interior and exterior are very quaint, and it looks to have been spruced up recently. We were immediately greeted and sat. It was interesting as we were then met with TWO waitresses. One holding coffee and the other ready to take out order. There was literally 90 seconds of waiting from entering to getting our drinks. Amazing. The waitress didn’t make any suggestions, but the descriptions of the items were very well laid out and didn’t leave room for guessing what an ingredient was. They had an entirely separate kitchen for the gluten free items(which almost everything on the menu had a GF option). I ordered the Lemon Curd GF pancakes and fruit cup. My husband got the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich, and my little one ordered the Breakfast plate from the kids menu. There were waitresses flying around, attentive to needs, and not missing a beat with who ordered what or who needed what. The food arrived very warm, appeared very nicely placed on the plate, and tasted as great as it looked. Our total bill was $ 26.00. That’s IT. The price for the amount and quality of food you receive is one of the best I have come across. We didn’t leave hungry or dissatisfied, and we were thanked for our business. Before paying I was waiting on a box for my fruit and wondered where all of the wait staff had gone. I then turn around and see them rushing out of the back, drinks and food in hand. They were working TOGETHER to make sure everyone seated(pretty much a full place) got their food timely. It was so refreshing to see an establishment that trained their employees to look at the business as a collective success, instead of this table is mine and don’t cross this line. My family will most definitely be back(out of towners). Their hours are only 6:30−2, so make sure you stop in right away, because she fills up fast!

There are a few times nostalgia drives one to try a new place: this was one. I remember fondly camping as a child and fishing with my dad. Mom would then fry up our catch of perch for breakfast. This place is WAYBETTER than mim’s campfire cooking, which is hard to imagine. They also have gluten-free pancakes, as much of an oxymoron that may seem. Lots of varieties of regular pancakes as well. It is clean and service is fine.

Great food and service. Reasonably priced. Place not on the lake but you can see it if you sit outside.

This little place is a hidden treasure. They offer the most amazing gluten free menu — from bfast to dinner… and their gf fish fry is off the charts! If you want a quiet, low key atmosphere with great food, this is your destination!

A cozy breakfast spot just off the interstate in «downtown» Newville serving all the breakfast goodies. You can even have a helping of blue gill fish with your pancakes. I ordered the blueberry pancake and a side of bacon. Just a single pancake which was more than enough for breakfast. It covered the entire plate and was served with fresh warm syrup. The prices are very reasonable and the food comes quickly. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast.

Went here for the first time today with a friend. The staff is really friendly and the décor is low key, but cute. I ordered the coffee and a cinnamon roll while trying to figure out what to order. They heated up the roll and it was light, sweet, and delicious! The plate I ordered was not what i was expecting, in a good way. The portion size was what a normal portion should be, not a huge plate, but a good amount for breakfast. Definitely proportionate to the price and quality of the ingredients. I left feeling full, but not stuffed. The toast, hash, and eggs where cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the meal and the food, so i will be back!

Friendly service and amazing food make for the right combination. The blue gill /egg combo is delish and the restaurant even offers a gluten-free menu. It’s nice to have so many choices and an accommodating restaurant outside of Chicago!

I have a summer house in area and I have eaten here almost every weekend this summer, that the restaurant is open. The food is excellent, the staff is very friendly but sometimes has slow service. What I don’t understand is why the owner closes the restaurant on weekends that he is out of town. This affects morale and hurts employees paying their bills. It’s OK to leave restaurant unattended by owner on weekdays but not OK on weekends. Whats up?

This is really just your average greasy spoon. nothing really special here. The staff was very pleasant and timely. I ordered breakfast and was surprised to see they had REAL maple syrup. This added to the flavor because it needed something. The B’s & G’s were dry but eatable. All in all I’d come back only in a pinch!

A great local find convenient to the interstate! Good food and friendly service. They offer breakfast and lunch items until 2:00. A much better option than the chain restaurants nearby.

Sunday breakfast! I had the Hot Gilly omelette hold the tomatoes, extra crispy hashbrowns, 7-grain wheat toast, coffee and a side of sausage gravy. Omelette was good and a large portion. Sausage was the kind you would get on a pizza, but the italian spices still made the sausage delicious. Standard hashbrowns. No gravy beats my mom’s, so I’m biased. Their gravy is standard diner food. The wheat bread was one of the best I’ve had at a local restaurant. Chewy and flavorful. Weak coffee — they really should be introduced to Just Coffee in Madison(which delivers beans and grounds!). I would come back to try the bluegill breakfast or if I had a friend looking for gluten-free options. Really friendly waitstaff and clean restaurant. Bathroom was clean with fun décor. It was snowing outside, so I didn’t get to see the patio. They promote their place as being about home cooking. Scratch gravy and locally roasted coffee would be my best suggestions for improvement. Look for the bakery case for your sweet tooth.

We were recommended to go here for a one off breakfast. Nothing special other than the friendly atmosphere and wait staff. The pancakes were so bland, my 13 year old son who is a virtual garbage disposal didn’t finish them all.

I really like Blue Gillys. First of all, it is one of the only places around the Janesville/Edgerton area where you can actually get more than 1 gluten free item on the menu. 2nd-the staff is very friendly from the hostess to the waitress. 3rd-the manager actually has a 2nd kitchen just for making gluten free items. How special is that? For those people who don’t need to eat gluten free, they also have regular gluten filled food which the rest of my family enjoys. Prices are reasonable and you get a good portion for your money. Another thing I like is the bathrooms are clean which makes me very happy. This place is easy to get to via Interstate 90. Get off at Hwy 59 and go east. Literally ¼ mile off I-90. Right after you see Culvers on the right, Blue Gillys is right there. If you cross the river, you have gone too far. Only open for lunch and dinner. I hope this place does well as we need family owned, good quality restaurants in the area that also cater to people who need to eat gluten free.
