I love these little places with character and charm. Staff was very nice and the food was good. Mahi tacos were tasty and hand pressed burger was too. Pimento cheese was weird and not melted however. Kids played at the little park right across the street while we waited for our food, we could clearly see them from our table. Kids menu was a plus.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. My boyfriend and I have been coming here every year for our anniversary and it never disappoints. We are always seated immediately and the staff is SO nice. Their beer and wine is extremely well priced for a couple of college kids, as is the rest of their food. The entire restaurant is so charming and relaxed, I look forward to it every year!

Grilled Mahi Mahi fish tacos were delicious! We got ours to go but beware that it is outdoor seating only.

Delicious! We were camping out on Edisto Beach and decided to give this place a try for dinner one night. The food was great! Everything was fresh and tasted homemade. We had fish & chips, fried shrimp — heck, even the french fries smothered in cheese was excellent. And we washed it all down with refreshing Arnold Palmer’s. They don’t have AC, so I’d recommend sitting outside. There was a 1970s vibe the night we were there, with Fleetwood Mac music in the background, that just sort of fits the whole Edisto Lifestyle. We ended up getting carry out from here on our last night.

Any review for Edisto Beach much acknowledge that the choices are thin… very thin. That being said McConkey’s Jungle Shack should rank one or two. Reasonable food, priced right. You will need to eat there more than once if you are staying for a week. The cheeseburger and chili-fries are top choices, but plenty will please. Other stops will be disappointing to say the least. The other better choice is SeaCow. If you have ever had quality seafood, you will not find anything similar to it in Edisto.

Good food and service, friendly staff. I had the mahi mahi tacos. And hubby had the burger. Both were excellent.

Our two families of five got right in and were seated quickly. We ordered the Fat Burger, the McConkey Cristo, the Fish & Chips, Quesadillas, the BLT, and Fish Tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meal, with the only negative comment being that the Cristo was a bit too greasy. The service was awesome! The waitress was very knowledgeable about how the food was prepared which helped my son decide as he has a wheat allergy. At one point, one of the young ones dumped her soft drink on the table and the manager was quickly on the scene for cleanup. Overall, the employees were very helpful and kind. I would definitely visit if I’m in the area again and leave room to try one of their desserts!

Just spent the week at Edisto. We ate here multiple times. All the fish and ingredients were fresh. The grilled tacos were great — both times that I had them. The Pico was mildly spicy and refreshing. The second time, I switched out the lettuce and cheese for the cabbage and sauce from the fried tacos. My niece had the fried tacos. Huge and crispy. I also had a salad with grilled shrimp one day. My husband had fish and chips. They make their own tasty potato chips. The slaw was slightly sweet and creamy. I enjoyed the sangria, both white and red. It’s not the best sangria, but after a hot morning on the beach, it was tasty. The staff was very nice and fast.

McConkey’s has grown from walk-up fast-food counter to a sit-down(Dare I say it?) restaurant. It’s still rooted to its past since you’ll be eating from plastic baskets using plastic forks and all seating is on a patio overlooking a grocery store parking lot. Also a bathroom visit will require you to squeeze past the kitchen staff. The small patio does have fans above and along the handrail, and a tin roof to ward off a light showers. Unfortunately, the rancid stench of a nearby dumpster will waft through occasionally. At least I hope that’s where the smell came from as the sticky tabletops gave rise to doubts of staff cleanliness. But they do a decent job with the food, and the prices are reasonable considering the dearth of competition in an island’s captive-audience environment. The menu offers plenty of options and our family had the Cristo wrap, seafood 3 combo, shrimp & chips, and an Oriental chicken salad. Note that menu items ending with«& chips» are not in the British traditional meaning of French fries, but in the American sense of potato chips. I wish I’d noticed the fine print, since French fries are actually available. Soft drinks are canned so we all opted for iced tea, but the wait staff wasn’t particularly thrilled that they had customers and took prodding to provide refills. So McConkey’s is still a shack in spirit, quality, and service and a tolerable choice if the drive to Charleston for better selection isn’t an option.

The food and service are both fantastic! It’s a little shack like the name advertises, but the food and atmosphere are great. It’s a must eat on the island.

We had a dinner at the restaurant. I had a fish taco. The flavors were ok. But I was surprised that the taco was served with just green leaves vs cabbage and that the cook used flower tortilla vs corn one. Also we were served a bottled water and charged 1.29 for a bottle. In addition the waiter added 20% gratuity for each bill.

If you are visiting Edisto Beach, it seems like this is probably your best option for a quick bite. It is a cute little shack, with beer/wine and some appetizing lunch entrees. We split an order of nachos, which took about 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. The nachos weren’t world class, but they weren’t bad either. They came loaded with chicken, jalapeños, queso, beans and red onions. The onions were strange, they were just cut up in big chunks and left raw. Also, there seemed to be lettuce mixed in — not sure if they tried to garnish with it but it was strange.

Great food at this place. We came twice! Prices were very reasonable. Excellent fish n chips and fish tacos! Great service and fun atmosphere — we sat outside once and inside the porch the second time. The kids loved the scavenger hunt.

This was or very first time in edisto so we just stumbled upon this place. How can you resist a place called mcconkeys JUNGLE shack? It was surprisingly small with no bar, which is always disappointing to me(and no draft beer ugh). But service, beer selection and food were all above average and exceeded expectations. The bf got the hot dog and said it rivals the tin roof hotdogs which is AMAZING. I got a Greek salad with grilled shrimp and there was no shortage of shrimp! Very fresh salad, too. We will be back if we go to edisto again!

Great burger. Huge and juicy, I needed 3 napkins. Not served with sides, but not really needed because the burger was huge. Loved the décor and the game of trying to find specific knick knacks everywhere! Just FYI, the bathroom situation is a bit awkward. Or cozy I guess… You have to go through the kitchen to reach it!

Edisto beach is a small town with a handful of places to get some seafood. Pretty easy to find and there was no wait but the place was not empty. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside … Spoiler alert… there is no «inside». The options– a screened in porch or al fresco. We were hoping for more seafood but regardless the food was full of fried goodness. Shrimp and chips were great. Fish Sandwich was good, despite the fact they served it on a bun not roll like the menu says. Onion rings were so good but you could feel your arteries clog. They also have $ 12 buckets which is pretty good for crafts. Overall, we had a good dinner and enjoyed our time there.

We’ve been to McConkey’s several times over the past two summers, and have never been disappointed. In fact, I’d venture to say that is it our favorite casual restaurant on Edisto Island. The food is fresh and tasty, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is exactly what you’d want and expect in a vacation setting. The type of food is pretty typical of other establishments on the island, only done with seemingly more care and attention. The menu consists of burgers, sandwiches/wraps, seafood(mostly fried), salads, and wings. A couple of items that really shine on the menu are the fish tacos. The McConkey’s fish tacos consist of fresh fried fish, and the heaviness of the fried protein is well-balanced by acidic slaw. Perhaps better than the fried fish tacos are the grilled Mahi tacos. The generous chunks of Mahi on these tacos are well-seasoned, moist, and very satisfying. Out party really enjoyed the lime crema sauce on these. So, whether you are in the mood for fried or not, you can’t go wrong choosing fish tacos on this menu. The other menu items we have sampled include the fish and chips, hot teriyaki chicken wings, and the Greek salad with shrimp. The fish and chips were executed perfectly. The tempura batter was light, crisp, golden, and so flavorful. The fresh brininess from the fish within the batter is not a taste one will get from chain fish-n-chip joints. The chips were also crisp, hot, and caressed with the correct amount of salt. Whoever fries at McConkey’s knows what they are doing. Everything, including the aforementioned chicken wings, comes out perfectly crisp but not overlooked. Beverage options include an array of beers and wines, soft drinks, tea, and bottled water(the tap water on the island has the notorious reputation of being salty). One thing worth mentioning about the beverages is the iced and sweet tea. Many restaurants manage to pass off brown sugar-water as sweet tea. McConkey’s sweet tea actually has the flavor and tannins of a brewed tea, which speaks to the establishment’s level of detail. McConkey’s also serves desserts that change with some regularity. While we have not sampled many of these, the strawberry-blueberry bread pudding was as delicious as it sounds. The staff, as mentioned, were great. The servers were attentive and conversational without being disruptive. We’ve gotten some pretty lackluster service at other restaurants on the island, so this service was refreshing. As for the restaurant itself, it is a shack as the restaurant name reveals, but the indoor seating area was clean and breezy. The outdoor seating is a great option for sunny days. The ceilings and walls are adorned with cute and interesting kitsch, and looking around at it all while waiting for food helps pass the time. The kids menu actually has a scavenger hunt game on it that can be played inside or outside. This kept our four-year old from becoming bored during our visits, which was much appreciated. Overall, I think most people will not be disappointed by McConkey’s. The food and service were great, and were consistent across multiple visits. We will definitely be back in the summers to come.

This is a great place to have a burger while at the beach. The seating is all outdoors, although there is a screened in area. This is not any place fancy as it is a burger shack, other items are available as well. The atmosphere is very casual and you will see folks fresh off the beach.
