This place has the best desserts! When I had jury duty, all I looked forward to was the dessert at New York Bakery. I always crave a good dessert with good custard, and their desserts and custard are the best I have had in town! Totally recommend coming in the morning for a cappuccino and fresh pastry :)

The rice balls are amazing! I buy a dozen and freeze them individually for quick meals. The pastries, cookies, and the cannoli are to die for. I need to try the sausage next time, my girlfriend said it is killer.

Arrived on a Saturday at 5:00 on with 2 others, they had very little to offer, said that they ran out. Even the ice tea. All they could make were a few of their sandwiches. Ordered the meatball sandwich, was disappointed the meat balls were dry. Purchased a variety of pastry to take home. Not impressed. They have such a large production area but offer minimal room to their customers. The young girls working there were nice but could tell they were just waiting to close. We won’t be back. Not sure if they want to be a minimal deli or not that great of a bakery or restaurant.

«Look to the Cookie!» Black & White cookies for the Holiday Bowl. Not quite William Greenberg but alas, not much is. It IS a soft moon pie with chocolate fondant, and you can watch the bakers in the windows making the pastries fresh throughout the day. Surprisingly one of the better NY style bakeries in the county.

I’ve tried a few of the baked goods and all are very good. I also ordered their Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, with was also delicious and ‘right sized’. I plan to return and try more of their pastries.

One of the few places in San Diego to get authentic Sicilian baked goods. The bread, cookies, and pastries are all to die for. Real deal Italian bread is hard to find in California and this is the place to get it. The owner and employees are always amazing. They always sneak my little Siciliana daughter a cookie for the road. Top notch establishment and they will have my business forever

I again relied on my fellow Unilocalers for a meal. I was in the area and wanted a breakfast sandwich. I decided to stop by this bakery. Definitely worth the stop. They have lunch specials so check those out. I ordered the egg, cheese, ham croissant to go. Delicious, the croissant was crispy on the outside soft and buttery in the inside. Made with love. There is plenty of seating available. I also happen to be there as the baguettes were coming out of the oven. Only .75 € for the small. It is close of the freeway. Will stop by next time I am in the neighborhood.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a really long time! I was really excited when we came in because the aroma in here is amazing! One thing I knew I had to try was the cannolis. The service was great and they let us sample a bunch of things, which were all delicious. We got a variety of different things. Everything was good, but the cannoli was perfect. Definitely my favorite thing here. The only thing that isn’t making me come here everyday, is the prices. It isn’t cheap, but if you want to spoil yourself, go for it!

Just like home. I rarely post reviews. The truth be told this is the first outside of ebay. So this is for all those who lived in the Northeast(NY, NJ, CT, MA, RI etc) and are new to the area like me. New York Bakery is good, very very good. For those that want to find out what an Italian bakery is all about set your gps and find this bakery. Fresh bread made from semolina flour, croissants made with BUTTER, biscotti w/almonds or half dipped in chocolate, CANNOLI’s so fresh the owner won’t display them. When I asked«Where are the cannoli?» He replied«No, no. They get soft in the display case so I make them to order.» Make them to order! Fresh Italian sausage with NOFILLER that was as good as I have had. The list goes on. Bottom line the owner LOVES what he does and it shows. Find this place if you haven’t already and fill bags like I do with delicious food.

New York Bakery is the best bakery I have found! I recently contacted them to see if I could purchase a sugar free cake. They told me it wasn’t something they had all the time but I could special order it. First of all it was absolutely beautiful and secondly it was hard to believe it was sugar free. My husband wrapped that cake up every night in order to preserve it as long as possible. Amazing alternative for diabetics. Thanks to the Cake Boss at New York Bakery!

Place is clean, staff is friendly, food is good. We came on a Sunday for lunch and got a caprese sandwich and a sausage and peppers sandwich. The clerk gave my daughter a cookie while we waited, I thought that was a nice gesture. Both sandwiches were tasty although the caprese came with balsamic even though it doesn’t say so on the menu. I’m not a fan of balsamic though I think most are. I should have asked for it without sense balsamic is a common thing on that sandwich. We got a couple cookies for the road on our way out.

Was in the El Cajon area and was craving something sweet and we found New York Bakery. Located in the downtown area of El Cajon and across the Civic Center with lots of street parking. A shop that you would typically find in San Diego Little Italy as it was authentic and more like a family ran shop. The boyfriend is originally from New York and has always been talking about his favorite black and white cookies. I’m not from NY so i didn’t know what the deal was. Low and behold New York Bakery had these cookies and they were according to the New Yorker legit. They reminded him of how he use to enjoy them when he was young. They were large enough to share and iced nicely 50⁄50 with chocolate and vanilla frosting. It actually was more like a cake to me than a cookie really. Plus the batter reminded me of batter that would be on a cupcake. Regardless New York Bakery delivered. They also have a variety of other treats(i.e., mousse, tiramisu, an assortment of cookies, cannolis, cream puffs, and more). Plus they also have sausages, italian subs, and pizza on the menu. Would have to come back to try all these.

I haven’t had a good cannoli in 15 years. I felt like I died and went to heaven when I tasted the one here. I grew up on Long Island and the chicken parmasian is amazing. I can’t wait to try everything on the menu. I am so glad I found this place. Melanie is so nice the service was great.

Cannolis! When I lived in El Cajon several years ago, this was my favorite spot for those sweet little treats. The workers would wait until right before you order them before they filled up the cannoli shells to keep them from getting soggy. I was also a fan of their black and white cookies that were large enough to share… depending on your level of hunger, of course. Along with an assortment of cookies, they offer up tiramisu, marzipan, napoleons, chocolate eclairs, biscotti, cream puffs and goodness knows what else! I’ve yet to sample everything in their bakery but from the regulars that continue to frequent this spot, I can only imagine they are coming back for their sweet fix for a good reason. For those craving something savory, they also serve sausage and pepper sandwiches, meat pies and meatball sub sandwiches. Get your sweet and savory tooth fix here!

I have been in and out of this place a few times, several years back. At that point it started good and got slowly worse to it got to the point that it frankly was terrible enough for the doors to close. Tick-tock, two years pass and it reopens, still the same family ownership just passed on to the younger generation to run. They’ve done well and seem to be well aware that they need to rebuild and move forward. We stopped in at lunch and got a meatball sub and a few cookies to take home, of course the NY Back and Whites were in the mix. The sandwich was very generous in size and contents. The roll was predictably fresh, In general it was a damn good sandwich. The cookies were also very good. Glad to see this iconic restaurant get back on track and glad to see that it has stayed in the family. If you were deeply disappointed in the past, I would encourage trying them again.

I guess, anyone likes a good bakery, but a bakery that also makes they own Italian sausages, well you got to love that. That being said, I ordered a mild Italian Sandwich on a freshly baked roll with sausage and peppers. The sandwich was quite long, and I have to say, that fresh roll it came on was fantastic( ). It had a great chewiness that I love in bread and a very good flavor with mild sourness. The tender sausages were very good with great flavor from the fennel, garlic, and herbs and spices.( ) I just wished they were larger in size or more in quantity. The peppers and onions were nicely prepared with good seasoning. The one thing this sandwich, although it was delicious the way it was, needed was some cheese: perhaps some nutty provolone. For dessert I had a fig rugala cookie topped with sliced almonds and a regular almond cookies( ). Both cookies were good, a little on the dry side, but they tasted good. My favorite was the fig stuffed rugala. The fig inside was a little sweet with a good fig flavor with a little chewiness( ). The people who work and run the bakery are very nice and welcome all.
