«You’re so stupid!» «You people are so difficult!!» –kind words from JayVee owner(older woman). Warning: be very careful while dealing with this person. I’ve never had an experience like this in my life. From the moment we walked in, this less-than-gracious woman gave us a hard time. First she ignored our smiles and«hello’s» when we walked in to her store. Strike one.(we don’t expect a red carpet treatment, but we certainly don’t expect to be treated rudely) Then, she rudely obligates us to purchase scratchers with our 3 «free ticket» winnings AFTER the fact that she cashed the tickets(a prior notice that they don’t give cash for«free ticket» winnings would have been nice). My wife kindly asks, «I thought that we could take cash instead?» Suddenly the owner calls my wife stupid, SLAMS the already cashed tickets back at her and yells«NO, you HAVE to buy tickets!!» Strike two. First of all, why would she think that we wanted to play scratchers right then and there? We originally planned to cash the winnings and come back another day. We just weren’t feeling our luck at that moment(and boy were we right!). Secondly, they were all out of $ 1 scratchers so that even if we DID want to play, we would be forced to buy whatever she had left in stock(not cool). It seemed to me like she was either being greedy or trying to clear out her old inventory of tickets by forcing them upon us. Thirdly(and most importantly), I would not mind purchasing a $ 3 scratcher from a business. But when you’re being rude to my kind-hearted and gentle wife, I will be obliged to react accordingly(by means of taking my business elsewhere, making several phone calls to the District Office of California Lottery, and of course this Unilocal review). Then, while I’m checking for California Lotto rules on my phone, the woman impatiently retorts«You people are so DIFFICULT!» Strike three.(I don’t even want to know what the hell she meant by «you people», but I come from an immigrant family and I’m not even gonna go there). We always came here after work to play scratchers, and we’ve bought hundreds of them(no exaggeration intended) over the past years from the older gentleman behind the counter. But not anymore. No way. BTW, I managed to record audio of what transpired. I wish I would have known with hindsight that she was going to burst out into a raging fit. But I at least managed to record the last part where my wife calmed her down and knocked sense into her by asking why she had to be so rude and mean to us. Here it is: (For the record, the ticket that she forced us to take was a losing ticket).

I was in this store a few days ago at 11:30 am, standing at the cashier’s counter, paying for lotto tickets, when I was robbed(wallet with all ID, cards, cash, stolen) by someone who rushed up from behind me and took my wallet. This store has no security cameras and no guard. Evidently the proprietors of this store don’t feel the need to protect their customers from this type of attack. YOUHAVEBEENWARNED

My boyfriend likes this place but since he’s not a Unilocaler and I am, I get the deciding review. I guess for beer this place is okay but for wine go elsewhere. The wine isn’t properly stored much less housed in the correct pricing area so one is likely to go to the front counter with a $ 20 bottle of wine rather than a $ 9 bottle of wine. The narrow aisles are definitely not wheelchair accessible and a layer of dust seems to lie on everything. Prices are jacked up accordingly for all these niceties so you’d really be better off going to the local Slaveway, Yucky’s or Trader Ho’s than this joint. They get one star over the obligatory one because my boyfriend likes them. And I like my boyfriend.
