Was a cold New Year’s Eve night and I was excited to see a pizza food truck open. I was very hungry, and the vegetarian pizza was perfect — crispy(but not too crispy), and bursting with flavor. There isn’t much good pizza in El Paso so this is a must go to if that is what you are craving.

I’ll admit, I’m a pizza-holic. While I do prefer the authentic stuff, I’m willing to go for a low-end chain restaurant as well. I was excited to see that there was a food truck that catered to my obsession, and much to my delight, it has authentic taste with the chain prices! I also got my apartment manager hooked on these bad pies… I mean bad boys. On the truck you can choose between Pies and pockets(aka calzones). In small talk with the owner, I told her I wish I could have the muffaletta pocket, but didn’t want the smoked ham. She informed me that they make each order to order and was able to get me a vegetarian version of it, and as a bonus, added mushrooms since I didn’t want to take the designated protein. When I got the piping hot order(without a flag) and bit into, I was taken back to to New Orleans. It had that perfect salty tapenade bite, but in a little shell. Next time, I want to try their California which has goat cheese and veggies. The thing that really won me over is the most recent time she had strawberry rhubarb pie. It is so hard to find any in the 915, but there it was, and it was excellent. Sweet and tart with a little bit of salt from the crust.(Actually, I think the pie crust could have used a little less salt). I was excited when I saw it one more time, but they were parked next to the donut truck and didn’t sell it because they didn’t want them to lose any business. That is a class act!

Red, White, and Chew is all about two things: tasty pizza and putting tiny U.S. flags on tasty pizzas. It just so happens that I love tasty pizzas and I love America, so naturally I liked RWC. They’re a fairly new food truck in town and you can find their current location on their facebook page, I found them at a Food Truck Revolution stop. They make all kinds of pizzas, you can choose your own toppings or pick from one of their special creations, I went the special route, because I’m special. When I asked what they recommended, she asked if I was feeling a little crazy, and suggested I try a BBQ Pulled Pork and Mac & Cheese pizza, and I went for it. We’re never going to survive unless we get a little crazy. The crazy pizza was crazy yummy, and logically so: pizza is awesome, pulled pork is awesome, mac & cheese is awesome, and tiny American flags are awesome, it’s awesome to the 4th power(the flag adds the flavor of freedom). Pizzas are thin, but not crispy thin crust, which I like, as I prefer a soft crust, they’re personal size, but very filling. They have a wide selection of toppings, so the possibilities are pretty endless. They also have other stuff, I ordered some wings because: a. they were on the specials menu and b. this is America, and we eat wings with our pizza, love it or leave it, pal! Wings were alright. Look for them on your next food truckin’ adventure!
