This taco truck made the best tacos I have ever tasted. I waddled my pregnant butt across the street almost everyday and got my 5 tacos al pastor with my coke. My unborn baby was nourished with only Tacos Al Pastor. I followed them up and down Huntington Dr. They had their sidewalk cart, truck, and later taco shop. Sadly the man who’s business this was, «El Paisa», passed on. I don’t know if he had a secret hookup with a butcher but after he passed, the tacos did not taste the same, although his family tried hard to keep up his reputation. The taco shop on Valley wasn’t the same either. Even after I moved out of El Sereno, there were times where I would drive 20 miles just to eat these tacos. Sadly, I have not been able to find a place that could remotely touch the memories I have of this place. Everything about these tacos were superior, the sweetness/spiciness of the meat, the guacamole, the salsa, caramelized onions, and when you requested it, a grilled jalapeño. I should be grateful for just having been able to taste such a magnificent taco, but like a crack monkey, I’m out there, forever looking for that same high.(The five star is for the memory)

Last night I took a drive through my old neighborhood, where I spent the first five years of my life, before moving to the SCV. I have been back to El Sereno in the past decades, of course, but only to visit Tacos El Paisa, which is home to some of the best tacos and mulas I have had this side of the border. A few years ago(2 or 3), Tacos El Paisa disappeared from their usual location, and google wasn’t helpful. It was actually quite sad, because I often found myself craving their mulas and tacos, and no other taco truck came close! Yesterday, after spending most of the day in LA, we decided to pass by the old ‘hood before heading home. While on Huntington, we noticed a blue truck selling tacos near the original Paisa spot. As we parked and got ready for mediocre non-Paisa tacos, I saw a familiar face inside of the truck! It was the same woman that makes my most favorite mulitas!!! She remembered my «usual» and as I ate it, I felt just like Anton Ego at the moment he took one bite of Remy’s dish. It turns out that they had to move from their original location, and their old truck died. After getting this new(bright blue — you can’t miss it) truck and securing this location, they are back! I was too excited as I ate, and completely forgot to write down the address of a nearby business, but I will come back and revise as soon as I get back out to the area. But, for now, Huntington Drive — Just before Main Street in Alhambra should help you find it. 3 tacos, 1 taco paisa, 1 tostada, and 1 mulita later, our bill came to $ 8.00! Be sure to ask for a «taco paisa» and you wont be disappointed! Their tostadas are awesome, and their mulitas are the best!
