I came in for a cut a some weeks ago. I wasn’t greeted by the woman at the desk, so I said hello and told her my name. My stylist came up front and I explained what kind of cut I wanted, we discussed the layers in detail and she said «ok».
I wasn’t offered anything to drink and I was the only customer in the salon that day.
The cut took about 5 minutes and then she blew dry and styled my hair. The cut wasn’t close to what we discussed and agreed upon. Simply put, it looked ridiculous. I was very disappointed.
After I paid the woman at the front desk, she said «ok». No «thanks for coming». No «goodbye and have a good day». Nothing.
I will never return to this salon and urge all who frequent this Unilocal site to strongly consider another salon.

Katie did a beautiful job on my hair yesterday. She spent the time to talk about what I wanted and it turned out great. I usually leave salons with a puff ball of hair and in this case it was absolutely perfect.
This is a very good salon and it’s all in the details. Great customer service, hot tea, welcoming staff, and reasonable prices. What a great business to have in Elgin!

I was fortunate to find this salon via groupon. Im very picky and expect good results. I told Chelsy what I wanted and she exceeded my expectations. She listened and preformed my color service just how i said. She has expert skill set and great listening skills. I have found my new home! Thank you Chelsy and the staff at Salon Couture. Its a wonderful salon and I would highly recommend.

The lady had the worst attitude with me. Of course I’m nervous to cut my hair but she starts giving me sass because I didn’t want to go shorter. I did and it looks so bad. If I’m going to spend 50 dollars on a hair cut I expect better service and the haircut I actually wanted. NEVER going back here. I DON’T recommend it.

I called this morning hoping to get an appointment in before the end of the day. I’m always doing this I know I’m horrible. Anywho they were able to get me in almost immediately which was awesome ! I’m new to this area so I told them set me up with whoever ! My stylist was Amber, thank the lord. She is my savior. Whatever salon I went to last, that I won’t name, completely screwed up my hair. My layers were all over the place my hair was thick and thin in all different places. For lack of a better term I was a mess. Amber did such a great job ! Like exceptionally good. I will not cheat on her ! My hair is perfect. I can’t believe she fixed that mess. 5 stars because the place is clean ! The staff was friendly ! And the environment and atmosphere rocked ! Come on in. You won’t disappointed

I went here with a Groupon for full highlights and a haircut. My stylist was Chelsea. While I had to wait about 30 minutes due to some schedule conflicts, she did such a fantastic job that I can’t complain. It was my first time getting highlights and I had only a vague idea of what I wanted. Chelsea gave me summery caramel streaks that will grow out beautifully and perk up my current hair, and cleaned up the choppy layers left over from growing out a pixie cut. I would highly recommend her!

I wish that I had read the Unilocal and the reviews before having purchased a Groupon for this «Salon» and having gone there. This was the absolute WORST place that I have EVER had my hair done in my life! The girl who cut my hair was not «warm» but I could have lived with that. What was the absolute WORST salon experience that I have EVER had was that she apparently did not like to work on long hair, had NO patience and I am assuming did not give a S**T about me as a customer because she knotted my hair in the wash and then PULLED with a crappy brush at the tangled mess that she had made from the TOP of my head, NOT the BOTTOM until I really felt that my scalp was going to bleed! I am NOT exaggerating! Honestly, at one point I covered my head with BOTH hands! I really should have gotten up and left but you know, my hair had color in it. I did speak up but looking back at it, her treatment of me really WAS ABUSIVE! And while I will say that I was satisfied with the color, I feel that I lost a lot of hair in that brush and my hair feels much thinner to me now as well as appearing to have way worse split ends up and down my head where probably hair was broken while being YANKED as well as hair having been yanked from my scalp. It was the absolute worst hair day of my life and worse yet, it was my Birthday…:). I was just trying to give myself a little treat that I seldom, very seldom, get to do.
It really makes you wonder about people. I really felt like she didn’t give a damn about me. I still tipped her well as the color came out nicely but I am sort of mad at myself for having done that, you know?
And I agree with you… the place looked unkempt. Dirty fixtures, etc.
Certainly, I’d NEVER go back…:(

Absolutely the most horrific experience I have ever had a salon. Being an Aveda sponsored salon I expected way more, especially when paying the amount they charge for their services.
My experience started with a scheduling conflict. They squeezed an appointment in before mine, and the woman was late. They sat her first and I then waited 1 hr 45 minutes (past my appointment time). They graciously offered to discount my service, so I waited around.
The colorist asked me what I wanted, and not only were the highlights not natural or even noticeable… the ones that you could see were chunky and orange in color. It took 5 hrs 35 minutes for the service (after wait time.)
I had to go in the next day and have them fixed. Still not what I expected, and now having 2 coloring’s done in 2 days I had to wait months before I could go to a better salon (Mario Tricoci).

First time coming here. Amber listened. suggested what I should do. I love it. ill be coming back..

I always get a good haircut here, and the prices are good.
I even enjoy chatting with some of the people who cut hair.
Looks like all the bad reviews stem from a poorly handled Groupon promotion – something I’ve seen before from otherwise great places.

Not very pleased with the unfriendly customer service. I’ve never been here and will not after many attempt to make appointment. They are either very busy unstaffed or closed. I am a very big Aveda fan, and had wanted to check out this salon (after recently moving to Elgin), when I saw there was a groupon I immediately purchased it. In my usual form, I bought my groupon first THEN read the reviews. Needless to say, I was nervous! However, I thankfully had nothing to worry about. Everyone that I dealt with (from scheduling the appointment, to the girl who confirmed the appointment, to the girl who did my hair) were all very nice. My stylist was extremely knowledgeable, which was also very reassuring. My hair looks great, and feels amazing after the conditioning treatment.
The only complaint I have is that the toner is $ 20 (if you need it for your highlights). After working in the hair industry, I know that a tube of color doesn’t cost nearly that, and the salon I worked at before did not charge extra for toner. I am not sure if this is something all Aveda salons do, or just this one. However, this wasn’t a surprise fee as I was paying, my stylist informed me of this, and any other possible additional charges.
All in all, I am very pleased with my hair, but if I am going to be completely honest I probably would not go back and pay the full price.

Been coming here since it opened and I Iove it! Alicia is my favorite but everyone is great!

Always efficient and friendly. I have read through these reviews and I am frankly shocked to see such negativity. I have been coming to this location for a few years now, and have never heard anyone mistreated. Sad to see that other people that receive good service never use Unilocal,just the ones that don’t. A very slanted website indeed.
Anyway, I have had many cut and colors at Salon Couture. I found them with a Groupon and have been coming back ever since. I have raved about them and have friends that go there now too.
Anyway — this is an Aveda Salon, it is quality — they have seen some employee turn over the last few years so hopefully those people that were described are gone, because there is no way the people that work there now could possibly have mistreated anyone.

I have been a long standing customer at Salon Couture. I have never had a bad experience. I’ve received many different services available and always walked away very satisfied.
The salon is clean, reasonably priced & the ladies are very friendly. I have recommended this salon to many friends & co-​workers.

I had recently moved to the area and my mother bought me a gift certificate for a massage. When I called to try and schedule my massage I was told they no longer off that service but that my gift card can be applied to any of the other services they offer. I was bummed, but decided I would apply it for a highlight and cut.
My appointment was made for a weekday morning, I was the first customer of the day. I was greeted and led back to the chair right away. I was a little put off at the hair clippings still on the floor from the day before and on the stylists counter. The whole place needs a deep cleanse.
After my foils were put in another customer was having her nails done. The girl that was doing her nails messed up and now my stylist was working on her. My stylist told me she would be back in a half hour. I finally asked after 45 minutes for them to check my foils. Maybe I am being picky but I felt a little neglected.
For my haircut I asked for a blunt straight cut. Once she was done with the cut she blowed out my hair and offered to curl it (I thought to make up for the lack of attention earlier, so I let her).
The next day when I washed my hair and went to straighten it, like I wear it everyday, I noticed my hair was uneven all over and it was not a blunt straight cut I had requested but a rounded cut! I immediately called the salon. Instead of being apologetic and having some sympathy I was greeted with a lack of empathy and was made to feel like I was being an inconvenience to them.
I rescheduled the following day, (I refused to go back to the girl who butchered my hair). The new stylist told me she would have to take an additional ½ — 1 inch to even it all out. I was beyond upset at this point. The stylist never apologized for my hair or the situation. It was really hard to tell if it was straight when she handed me the mirror b/​c the hand mirror was filthy. At this point I just wanted to get the heck out of there, as it was Mother’s Day and all. Not how I wanted to spend that day.
My hair is still slightly uneven and I am a very unsatisfied customer. I have never been to Aveda salon quite like this before. Needless to say, I will never go back.

I have actually been to this Salon Couture quite a few times and every time I’ve had a friendly greeting and they seem to always be right on time. For a guy I tend to be picky about my hair and how it’s cut. Every time I’ve walked out of here I’ve loved the cut.
The price is slightly below average for a guys haircut, but the service is above average for sure. My experience was GREAT and I’d definitely recommend them to anyone that asks.

Wow! I was looking for a new salon to go to since the one I used to go to does a mediocre job, now. I wanted someplace fantastic since I needed a lot done. So I searched Unilocal and aftet a few weeks of research and consideration I decided on Salon Couture.
I arrived and was promptly offered coffee or water. I declined, but was offered a few more times later. I spent about 5 hours here. What a great salon. It’s an Aveda salon with fantastic décor. Believe it or not it isn’t as pricey as the other Aveda salon services I’ve seen.
Jessica gave me a cut, color correction, color, and a conditioning treatment. I was pleased with every service and will be going back to Jessica. She is a PHENOMINAL stylist!!! I love, love, love my new hair!
They also have coupons, facebook promotions, and promotions on their site to make things even more affordable!
They’re located on Chicago street in downtown Elgin in the same building, but across the hall from Ravenheart Coffee. Go here! They take care of you and at a decent price-​where you don’t sacrafice quality.
