Another great spot to hit up if you just don’t feel like cooking at home. Definitely authentic homemade Spanish food! Without all the cooking and the cleaning up afterwards.

It was just chicken and salad. But if was the best chicken and salad I’ve had in recent memory! The menu is more for Families as opposed to individuals. However, I was told there are specials M-F. Fresh, Flavorful, Delicious!

I have never tried Peruvian food until I came to this place. Even tho I don’t have anything else to compare it to. This is really good food. The Lomo Saltado and the Chupe de Mariscos it’s really really good. And also the drinks, either if you drink chicha or the inka cola, they’re both good. Prices are pretty good. Take your time to go on the weekends… it gets really crowded at lunch time and you have to be patient to wait for a table and your food. It’s worth it tho!

Been coming here for years. I primarily dine in and I usually order the chicken, fries, and salad. But sometimes I order the Jalea which is also awesome. I would definitely recommend this over other Peruvian restaurants in the area. The fried rice is also great.

Food was a bit too salty for me and my children. I didn’t wait long for the food to get to my table. I was told it was a great Peruvian restaurant … It is packed with people.

I’ve been going here god knows how long. My parents are friends with the owners who use to work here in newark. So we’re talking about 20+ years guys. Their pollo a la brasa is to die for! The taste is unique and their fries are so good and with the green hot sauce they give ugh foodgasms!!! I was raised with authentic Peruvian food hence I am Peruvian so I know my food. I refuse to go anywhere else but here for the simple fact that it taste the way it’s suppose to taste! And it reminds me of my grandmothers cooking(obviously no one can beat her cooking lol) Other restaurants add something shouldn’t be part of the dish or take away something from the dish, or try to incorporate their own style, which I’m sorry but I want my food to taste the way it’s suppose too! My favorite dish that I usually get is CHICHARRONDEPESCADOCONENSALADAMIXTA aka fried fish with salad, and I always have to order with a Side of rice, a meal isn’t a meal to me with out rice. Let me tell you. No one makes their fried fish like they do, it taste so good, so fresh and juicy, just sprinkle some lemon and you are set. I’ve been to other restaurants and I’ve left so sad and unhappy, in Elizabeth too btw stay away from other Peruvian restaurants in Elizabeth. Another good thing is that they are generous with their portions, when I usually to eat with my family we all leave very satisfied, mind you my father is a hard man to please. Like other reviewers have stated it’s good to know some Spanish since everyone speaks Spanish, don’t expect anything fancy but do expect complete and utter happiness, as for drinks a Peruvian drink that usually goes splendid with the meals is either chicha(purple corn juice actually is an antioxidant so it’s healthy for you, and it dates back to Inca period) or Inca Cola(soda) taste like sprite but it’s better haha. You should at least visit once, this place is amazing, just don’t go Sundays, because it’s completely packed. Saturday night is usually best to go, usually always available seating, max you’ll ever have to wait is if even 10 mins, and I’m pretty sure Monday they are closed. Enjoy(:

Like the old expression goes. «Kiss The Cook». Well, I tried but her husband wouldn’t let me. El Iman Restaurant in Elizabeth N. J is as authentic Peruvian as it gets. Very big place with lots of seating. I had the«Bistak A Lo Poble» and it was excellent. It’s a skirt steak that was tender not tough at all, and was well seasoned. It came with sweet plantains that were done just right, Soft but not too sweet, a Side of white rice and a small salad. Their french fries were oily not crispy But if you are familiar with Peruvian style food thats how fries are served. I chose an Inka Kola as my drink. For those of you who dont know what that is. It’s a Peruvian soda that’s a must have that tastes like Pineapple and it’s very refreshing.

Do not expect a fancy setting, or a fluent English-speaking server, just go in expecting to have some of the best food you will ever eat. The portions are HUGE, the prices are very economical, and the quality of their food is outstanding. Their ceviches are some the the best I have ever tried, the seafood is so fresh! They serve, by far, the best Chaufas in the NY/NJ area. Their spicy Chorillana steak is in itself a feast for the senses. This place is highly recommended for a casual, delicious, and very economic meal.

This place has some amazing Peruvian food with gigantic portions. It’s seriously so much good I can never finish it. Always have lunch for the next day. Everything is cooked to order so takes a little bit of time to get your good but the wait is well worth it. The pollo a la brass is the most succulent chicken I have ever tasted and every last one of the fried rices is damn near orgasmic. The price is perfect to the portions the only negative this place had is its location. While nowhere would I say that this is the rough part of Elizabeth because it’s truly not, I will admit first timers who aren’t from here or used to the environment if Elizabeth might be a tad overwhelmed. Trust me when I say it’s all in your mind. This area is perfectly safe and the people are great. Like any other place there’s some rotten eggs but nowhere near to deter you from coming here. The food is too epic to let it being in Elizabeth stop you from enjoying it.

My family, friends, and I have been frequenting this restaurant for nearly 15 years. The focus is on the food, establishment, cleanliness, and the fine staff who work very hard to ensure you get one heck of an outstanding meal. Yep, the place is plain, no liquor, a couple of TV’s and usually pretty packed… but that’s all put to the side once you take a bite. We’ve covered the menu pretty well and I can’t say that I’ve had anything that wasn’t top notch. The flavors are outstanding and just like the way my family serves up. If you need an ice cold one to go with the meal, just hop next door and grab what you need as it’s BYOB. If you’re into seafood, get yourself a plate of «chorros»(mussels) or jump onto the Jalea. The servings are insane and I can finish them at times, but I cannot tackle the Bistec A Lo Pobre… it gets me every time. And the soups… wow! Trust me, my family and I are ecstatic to hear of other Peruvian restaurants that pop up so we can compare… nothing has come close and like I said, close to 15 years with these guys :). Keep it up El Iman!

We were brought to El Iman by a friend of ours from Peru. You probably need to be a little adventurous and speaking a little Spanish would also help, but if you’re willing to try something new, expect to be very pleasantly surprised! First the downside: there is no décor, it’s as plain as a restaurant could be, waitresses don’t usually speak English But the menu is in English so your index finger can place the order. Now the good part, The food is very, very good! Authentic, Peruvian cuisine, rotisserie chicken, seafood, beefsteak, sublime rice and fried rice, unbelievably hearty soups that are a meal unto themselves, etc… We come here usually once a month now and really enjoy the savory food, big portions, and reasonable prices. I’ve only scratched the surface on the menu, but if you’re willing to give El Iman a try, I think you’d be glad that you did!

This is my favorite ‘hole in the wall!” My husband and Iove trying new places; nonetheless, we keep returning to this place because the food is very good. The jalea and aji de gallons are our favorite dishes. The beef lomo not so good. They lack green spagetti/tallerines verde. The prices are modest and portions are generous. It is not fancy looking but yummy. They have installed two flat screen tv and generally are packed and have music playing in the background. The customer service is average. The waitresses are few and the tables many. The bathrooms are clean. The green aji(hot sauce) and papa la haucaina(cheese sauce) is thick. I will continue to patronize. :) .
