Please come back, Java Village! Your food was great, your atmosphere was formica-table, no-nonsense. You were destination Queens lunch #1 for me. I hope you can work it out. Love and best wishes.

I hope they come back. This place was equivalent to your favorite dive bar. Probably not the cleanest, probably not the healthiest, but man, you loved the one thing about it and you keep going back. For me, it was the food. I dont know why they closed, but I hope they come back.

Great Indonesian food in Elmhurst. Very authentic dishes. Choice of buffet(steam table) as well as regular menu items. Good portion sizes too.

We came here with the intention to do takeout and we’re glad we did because it’s a small place. There are tables but I would be more comfortable taking it to go since it’s a bit muggy inside. Only a fan circulating air. I was skeptical at first because the food at the counter looked like it had been sitting there for a while. My food review will be below. We ended up ordering indonesian fried rice, which has to be prepped in the kitchen, and a combination platter of rice with curry kale and chicken. The food at the«buffet» area houses their combo meals. I watched the woman, who is very nice and friendly, pack our meal. Interesting technique — packs the food in a separate container then repacks it with the takeout container. Little nervewracking because you’re not sure what other foods were placed in that container(mixing of flavors, contamination, etc) but I braved my way through it. Food– Despite the questionnable way to how the food was handled and prepped to go, it is delicious! Both the fried rice and kale were spicy(as someone who doesn’t eat spicy often). My husband loves spicy and he said that rice was kicking! I think there were a lot of peppers in it. But it was good — I would go back just to order this. The chicken was good and soaked in flavor. I’m not a big kale fan but it wasn’t bad. All in all, give this place a try if you’re not skeeved out by things. Or you can always call and order so you don’t see the action.

Its a lil bit pricey, but trust me its worth it! You have to try Gado gado(indonesian salad). If you like pineapple, try nastar or pineapple cookies. Indonesian food is so healthy and everything are freshly cooked!

Extremely underwhelming! We walked in on a Sunday night at about 6pm. I knew it was a hole in the wall, and when it comes to Indonesian food, that’s usually a good sign. Boy, was I wrong… I asked for Teh Botol. They didn’t have it. Instead, I was offered home made iced tea which ended up being iced tea from a standard tea bag. I soon noticed there was no satay on the menu. I thought this was strange for an Indonesian place as it’s such a staple in our cuisine. When I asked about it, our server said they were the only Indonesian restaurant that doesn’t serve satay. Damn it! What I considered to be even a bigger problem was the fact that there was pride in his tone, as if it was his unique selling point. FAIL! I opted for the gado gado(which I happen to like with satay on the side, but whatever…). M. ordered a combo platter with some chicken curry, spicy beef and tempe/tofu. With that, he wanted a Coke to which the answer was, «We don’t have Coke today. Just diet Pepsi.» We also ordered an appetizer. I forgot which one, probably because they didn’t have it that day either! There were way too many«no’s» in this place! The food was extremely bland, and not what I consider to be authentic. I tasted lazy cooking, as in «let’s just put something together that resembles the original». This made sense knowing that preparing satay is an extremely timely occupation. I know, I know… I just can’t get over the satay but what can I say. I’m an Indo-European who takes her satay very seriously.

The price of their combos is a little high, but the food is solid. Food is flavorful, and not spicy — I will like it be a little more spicy. Will try the a la carte menu next time.

Second visit here, so disappointed. Price of food has gone up and quantity and quality significantly dropped! Almost $ 15 for both our meals, mostly rice very little meat and veggies… also the spicy beef was not spicy and more bland. I guess I will not be returning back here!

This is a simple diner that serves authentic Indonesian dishes. If you are in a hurry just get a rice combo with three items from the steam table for about 8 bucks. And don’t forget to add hot sauce or sambal which will make you sweat and cry. You can also order from the menu. Most of their items are under 10 bucks. The Indonesian ladies that serve you are sweet and friendly. This place is right by the Grand Ave –Newtown metro station

I come by here every once in awhile to get one of their rice combos to go. I usually get their 2 vegetable dish and rice combo, which comes up to around $ 7.00 or so with tax. I’m a big fan of their kale coconut curry and their tempeh tofu dish. The sambal on the side is always a nice addition. I’ve yet to actually order anything from their menu as I always go to their ready made items by the front register, but would love to do so one day. I also like the various Indonesian goodies that line the glass partitions by the ready made dishes. Admittedly, the place is a bit dingy and small, so you may want to get your order to go, as I often do. I’ve also never ordered anything from the front as it all seemed like generic Chinese dishes. I’ve yet to be disappointed in my combos, though, so I definitely plan on coming here indefinitely.

Ive been eating from this place ever since they opened a few years ago, I have zero complaints, everything there is great, food and staff included. I love the hot wings they have a variety of different flavors you can try from. The spicy beef over rice is also a great selection.

The food here is well-made. Probably one of the best Indonesian Restaurants in the city, hands down. The steam table looks good, just as good as the taste! Not to mention the food in the kitchen, amazingly delicious. The food has a distinctive taste that only a few top notch restaurants have. Moreover, the people who work there are generous, they often recommend good food! I highly recommend everyone to try this Indonesian cuisine!

Prior to coming here we had only had Indonesian food once before, at an Indonesian food bazaar held at a church, and the food was amazing. Since then we’ve been looking forward to eating more. We also thought it’d be good to have a little food tour of Elmhurst, an ethnic-enclave of Asians. We came in on a Saturday around 5−6pm and it was empty. Their steam table had three meat options and three veggie options. We ended up ordering one plate from the steam table and a bowl of noodles from the a-la-carte menu. The plate of rice with eggplant and tofu and egg came out first. The food was lukewarm but very flavorful. I could have lived without the fried tofu, it was just hard and bland, but the eggplant was good. Ten minutes later our bowl of chicken noodle soup(pangsit mie ayam) came out. If you can’t eat too spicy take out of the red chili peppers before you mix your bowl otherwise you’ll go into a slight face numb. I enjoyed this dish. Overall, the food was good but really it was just good. I wish it were better but I look forward to trying the other Indonesian restaurants in the area next time. There’s no restroom for customers, instead they have a little sink with soup and a roll of toilet paper next to their drinks fridge for customers.

It’s a hole in wall so don’t come expecting red carpet treatment. You can order cafeteria style or aka carte from their menu. We did both. 2 veg+fish over rice, pelencing and kethoprak. You have to be ready to be adventurous because they don’t really have pictures of their dishes. I’ve been away from Indo a long time so sometimes need a reminder of what certain dishes come with and the helper did little to help me remember. It is quite authentic which means some of the spices can be overwhelming but warning, once you acquire it, you may want more and more.

While I had given high marks for this place in the past, the quality of dishes here has been on a steady decline over the past couple of years. I’ve eaten near-rotting fish, vegetables that have gone bad, and most recently found some disgusting strands of hair in my order. My guess is that a visit from the Dept. of Health would earn them an F. Avoiding this place in the future.

I haven’t been here in a while. It’s open until 11pm now instead of 1am, and there’s partial waiter service with a real plate instead of the old paper plate, pay-at-the-counter approach. But thankfully the food is the same, with a variety of Indonesian steam-table offerings. There are combos, varying in price by how many meats and vegetables, most or all possibly priced under $ 10. Kale with curry sauce was my favorite of the three items tonight but I also enjoyed the spicy beef and the spicy tofu with egg.

I tried my first Indonesian food over here. I didn’t know what to expect so we just ordered some indonesian dishes. I don’t remember the names but it taste good and reasonable price. They don’t serve dressing for salads which was very disappointing. I ordered a salad shown in the picture on menu. But they forgot to put tomato in salad. So I called the waiter and asked him why there is no tomato like shown in the picture, the waiter went back right away and brought the sliced tomatoes, which showed me that the service was very great.
