I think these guys are either revamping or closing there doors. But driving by I haven’t seen open doors in quite a while.

NOTE: It appears this place is out of business. No loss. Maybe a «real» Mexican place can open there. It would do well. Nothing is really very good here. I’ve had tacos, burritos, and taco salad. Not even the chips and salsa. I think it’s that much of the ingredients don’t really taste«Mexican». For example, the rice, to me, tastes more like a Mediterranean rice. And the salsa has nothing to it to even make it interesting. I’d avoid this place. if you want Mexican food in this neighborhood, head over the Amtrak bridge to the food mall.

Pretty interesting that this place is so low rated. I work in the area and the eating options are minimal with the exception of the Public Market — and that place smells like greasy spices. We are glad to find this place. It is simple, no wait, you get what you want. Do people not realize that this is a fast food restaurant? I think it is pretty good if you compare to other inexpensive fast food places. The mondo burritos are HUGE. My co-workers and I normally order the mondito as it is the perfect size. I like the chicken. I recently had the quesadilla and it wasn’t that good. It was ginormous as well, but was too cheesy… and no thanks. It seems pretty fresh if you stick to ordering fresh type food. We come here about once a week. Also, the two girls that work the lunch hour are super friendly. Parking is a pain in the butt.

How does this place stay in business? It’s always a ghost town in this place and for good reason. Their tacos taste like crap! I was about to order the tacos with asada until I looked down and saw the«asada» in a container that was almost filled to the brim in liquid? Hell no, that looks disgusting. I’ll take the carnitas instead. They look somewhat decent. Well, unfortunately they weren’t. When I got to my table, the meat contained so much water the taco just fell apart before I can even get a hold of them. For some reason, they scoop the meat onto the tortilla with a spoon… When the meat is sitting in a bin full of meat water? Seriously? I just wasted $ 8.50 for two small nasty tacos that I barely even touched? If you’re craving mexican food, there’s a roach coach a block away on Hollis by the park that’s much more edible.

The Subway analogy is apt. I ate here today and if I’m not mistaken, the owner also owns the Subway on the corner 40th and San Pablo. I got the veggie burrito. I knew there was a problem when I saw her dish out the rice. It had that distinctly parboiled look to it – like Uncle Ben’s. If only it tasted as good(that’s right – sarcasm). The«hot sauce» was not too spicy, and tasted just like the Taco Bell«Fire» sauce with a little sugar added. With a drink, my meal came to $ 6.89. Not a bad price, but I would honestly prefer two 7-layer burritos from Taco Bell for about the same price. If you want a burrito in Emeryville, take a walk down Hollis to Cocina Poblana.

The Subway Sandwiches of Mexican fast food, so what do you expect. The sour cream was genuine but everything else tasted like it came out of a plastic bag /cardboard box. When I asked where they got their funny whale-watching sign from, the owner said«Oh, corporate sent it to us,» and I felt like saying, «like this taco salad?» Am I high or do the same people who work at the Subway a half block away also work here? I think they are co-owned franchises…

I had tried taco at Taco del Mar on second street in San francisco, the food was great. Now, I have moved to Emeryville for work and lunch spot is so limited here. Please, please improve your quality of food and I will be your regular customer.

As soon as I walked in the door, I knew something was just NOT quite right. They were burning an incense at the door and they’re not even Indian. or hippies. So, really that’s a bad sign from the start. What kind of smells were they trying to cover? Doesn’t matter. … As soon as I walked up to the counter and saw the ladies working here just leaning on the counter, breathing all over the food, I knew I wouldn’t be putting any of their food in my mouth… ever. Curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to at least see the food before walking out. I looked in the lil bins with all the beans and meat.etc. I have no idea what kind of food was lurking beneath the brown, oily liquidy shit floating on top of every single item. nor will I ever find out.

I’m not going to repeat what others have said here regarding the quality of the food, its a taco del mar so I know what I’m getting myself into. I work across the street and go here occasionally when I want something quick. What pisses me off about this place is that they routinely overcharge. The listed price for their burrito is $ 5.99 and my total came out to $ 7.05. I’ve been overcharged 3 times at this place and called them on it once and they played it off like it was a mistake. Seems to me that they have a policy to gouge customers. If I get the craving for mexican in the future I’ll go down the street to Cocina Poblano instead.

Ok, so I have been here a few times now, trying different things, hoping to get something to come back for. Not so much. I love Mexican food and was hoping for a delicious alternative to the lunch places in the immediate area. I ordered 2 tacos and it was almost $ 6, and that doesn’t include rice, beans or even a measly bag of chips. I am disappointed more importantly concerned that the meat was not hot. The cheese did not even melt and it was put directly on the meat. Hmmmm… I wish every business success, however, I am not sure if I will be returning very often.

Cruising through Emeryville doing my work thing. I saw this place and thought I’d give it a try. Stepped inside, the place is kinda tiny. I can’t really imagine a ton of people eating here because the food isn’t that good, but maybe they had that in mind when they were building it. I ordered a couple of tacos, which came out to be almost $ 5(!!!)… I guess I shoulda checked the menu before just wildly ordering but whatevs. Tacos weren’t that great, the service wasn’t great, location isn’t great, and the pricing doesn’t equal favorably with the quality of food you’re getting. I guess if you’re in the mood for horrible Amerexican, this is your spot.

Taco Del Mar is awful in every way. I work in the same building and I was hopeful that this would be another decent lunch spot in the area. The first time I tried them I ordered tacos. Each taco received approximately 1tsp of meat on an ice cold tortilla topped with iceberg lettuce and a bland salsa. Tasteless and badly overpriced(even if they were good) but at least they didn’t get me sick. The second time I tried them(out of desperation on a hungry work weekend) I had a carne asada burrito. While I didn’t expect wonders, the ice cold meat(from the«steam» table) and the lack of care in food preparation led to 2 days of throwing up. Needless to say I won’t be back. My experiences were topped off by lousy service that didn’t listen to my order or know how to operate the cash register. Avoid this place — there are better, safer options only minutes away.

I live less then a block away and have been waiting for this restaurant to open. I received a BOGO coupon in the mail for their opening so i finally decided to use it. Even with BOGO i wouldn’t waste my money again. I ordered the enchilada and taco combo plate and was disgusted with the service and food quality i received. If i could give this place a zero stars out of five if i could, but i can’t. I cant believe how small the meat portions that were put onto my order were! I’m talking about literally a golf ball sized amount on my taco and enchilada. I seriously thought they would put more on, but she ended up adding a pile of lettuce and pico de gallo to make it look fatter, like i wasnt standing there watching. On the second plate she prepared for me for my BOGO order, i remarked, «those are some small tacos!» She then commented on my observation to her coworker in Spanish, like nobody else can understand, that i was complaining and that i had brought in a coupon so what did i expect! The coupons littered my condo complex offering deals for the newly opened taco shop on the corner, but when i go in to spend money, they act like my coupon makes me less of a customer. Since i live half a block away, i really feel like going back when the manager is there and complaining about how poor the service and food is, but i will just wait for the business to go down in burning flames instead. Seriously, even if you have a BOGO and get a combo plate for the $ 3.50 like i did, it’s still not worth it. Go to taco bell and get better service and food. Ohh yeah and the back door wide open to the great view of the garage and gasoline fumes was a nice touch to my experience. Thanks Tacos Del Mar! The experience i had there made me realize how much i will tell all my neighbors and friends not to ever waste a dollar in your restaurant! THANKS!

I’m no elitist, but this place sucks real bad. A friend said she had their fish tacos ages ago and they were good. We waited weeks for the place to open as Emeryville has a lunch venue deficit. The line was out the door — mostly soft bellied guys with square-toed Kenneth Cole footwear. The atmosphere is horrible — the back door was wide open, exposing the beautiful underground garage. Colors and photos of food on the wall are horrid. Most of the tables sit right were the line circles around, making them unappealling to anyone who minds being surrounded by hungry techies. They were empty. Most important, the food. Horrible. They had no fish(probably a good thing). I had a carnitas salad made up of 2 lbs of shredded head lettuce, brown(i’m not exaggerating) guacamole(why? if doing so much business) and the worst carnitas I ever had. Soggy, flavorless. It looked like the freqeuent filling in my new son’s diapers. My friend had a burrito. I won’t bore you with the details — she hated it. Usually I’ll give a place a second chance. No way.

Horrible! Taco Bell is better. Also, don’t get confused — this place is not about seafood nor freshness. Everything is off of a Sysco food truck, reminds me of a burrito from my college dorm/student union. Even the rice in the burrito isn’t real, it’s ‘reconstituted’ rice(instant).
