I have been visiting Deering’s Market several times a year for 15 years. They have the best homemade jerky anywhere. Their fresh made bread is delicious, especially the oatmeal bread. They make their own bacon and sausage that is fantastic. They will cut a steak to order while you watch. They have a well stocked walk in cooler for nice cold beer. Other than that they are really nice people. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

While visiting the Sleeping Dunes National Lakeshore for a week we needed a grocer. While this one wasn’t great for fresh produce, they make their own bacon and sausages which were great. They also prepare fresh items for lunches in their deli with great fried chicken everyday and homemade chicken pot pies on tuesdays. I thought they had the best lunches in the area including Glen Arbor. Of course the atmosphere lacking, but eat is while sitting at the Empire beach on Lake Michigan it is hard to beat. Also a good source for local information as the ownership is 3rd generation.
