S L I M E Y business practices. My attorney talked to Irene Ramos in their business office and they determined we owe nothing. Now we are getting collection letters from various companies and dunning phone calls. ENR was bought by COVENANT HEALTHCARE. They are the root evil here. And Irene has thrown us under the bus rather than doing the correct thing. What low life business practices.

I had major surgery and after a week and a half stay in the hospital I was sent to Encinitas Nursing and Rehab for wound care, physical therapy and dietary. Upon my arrival I was just thrown in a room by a health aid. She was bar far the rudest person I have ever had contact with. This woman did not plug the bed in so it could be adjusted. The tv remote did not have batteries so I could not turn the tv on. There was no call switch. I had to use my cell phone to google and call the front desk for assistance. When the health aid came back she had a salad and pretty much threw it on the table. I had then had enough of her and gave her a piece of my mind. I demanded to see a supervisor who came in and I requested another room because the elderly woman they had placed me with was in agony. The next room I was placed in was a little better a distant view of the ocean. My roomate this time was a elderly sweetie however in the middle of the night she was ringing her bell for assistance and the workers completely ignored her. Again I used my cell phone to get someone in to help her. I had to use my cell phone so many times to get assistance. The staff would forget to bring my pain meds… My dietary needs were not met… therapy was great with the therapist. I was supposed to be in Encinitas Nursing and Rehab for 6 weeks I was there 6 days. I stayed long enough to go to my first follow up appointment with my doctor and I had my ride waiting on me at my appointment to go home. I told my doctor I wasnt returning to Encinitas and I showed him pictures of the filth and I wish I could have bottled the smell from that place… Upon my refusal to return, home health was set up for me at home. I would not suggest this place to anyone unless you have no other choice. If you do place your loved one here you will have to watch this place like a hawk! Alot of the patients here are elderly and cannot speak for themselves. I am young and I could not walk but I could communicate and see the things that this place hides. The workers are used to controlling and yelling at patients. When they seen I still have my God given sense I was neglected as a patient because I was more of a threat to them. I will say it again ONLY USE THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS and you ARE WILLING TO BABYSIT YOUR LOVED ONE.

Excellent Thanksgiving dinner for residence and family last night. Penny, the Activity Director did a great job bringing families together in a very festive and warm environment. The prime rib dinner was absolutely delicious. Thank you to the chef also to prepare such a delicious meal for everyone.

I have a friend who was staying there, luckily for a brief time. She is not elderly or hallucinating, so when she says she is getting lousy care I believe her (doctors’ orders not followed, dietary restrictions not followed). I visited to make sure she was okay. Upon entering, I was overwhelmed by an industrial chemical scent — bad sign. In the event I ever have to chose a place like this for myself or a family member, I’ll know what to avoid.

Scripps Outpatient Rehab Driving Program is absolutely lackluster. The program & therapists are very political. Very poor /​bad outpatient program, probably San Diego’s worst.
I’m stating this in retrospect. After happily leaving their program, went over to Sharp Rehab & quickly got my neurologist’s endorsement for my driver’s license.
Would highly recommend to not waste one’s time or resources @ Scripps. One’s resources will be better utilized @ Sharp Outpatient Rehab.

Encinitas Nursing and Rehab is a wonderful facility. I am a Healthcare Liaison for Home Health and Hospice Services and have been fortunate enough to work with this facility and their wonderful staff. Whenever there is someone we are helping with our services that is in need of Nursing or Rehabilitation I always recommend Encinitas Nursing and Rehab. It is an extremely clean, professional, and welcoming environment. The staff is very warm, gentle, and great at what they do. I always hear great things from the people and families that I recommend this facility to and have always been happy with their services.

This place is appalling. It has been renovated fairly recently, but new flooring, drapes & paint can’t conceal the depressive state it is in. My mother died there years ago after a lengthy stay. It was a continual battle for good service. They hated to see me coming in, that is for sure! Now a very close friend has the sad misfortune to be stuck there. I have been visiting her & have witnessed once again an uncaring & sullen staff. I am sick to death of this common problem with so many of our health care facilities & it is definitely a major issue in this place. DO NOT subject your loved one to this dump… DO YOUR RESEARCH!

My grandmother did come home from her previous stay here… but unfortunately returned a few months later… and she passed away while staying here.
The staff was wonderful to us during her last few weeks here and were very loving after she passed. I feel that the staff truly cares about the patients who live here.

Jill after I had a full knee revision advised me this place was a 5 star rehab facility. I wanted to go only to get a head start in my recovery using their PT Department. When I arrived, entering the front door a peppermint mist smell engulfed me, used to cover up the smell of urine. Used as an acute nursing facility primarily I stayed for 5 days because I signed the agreement with Jill the sales person for this nursing facility. I was in bad pain from the surgery when I arrived and needing pain management it took more than 14 hours for them to get my medications onboard. Dr Vu, the PT, and the occupational therapist were kind, and deserve recognition for it. The food was horrible like feeding prisoners in jail. You get a shower every 2 days in a community shower. Several staff members were helpful but reeked of cigarette smoke. It was noisy at night so sleep was hit and miss at best. The nursing staff for the most part were kind but the front desk crew left a lot to be desired. I sure hope I never have to be placed in a facility like this later in life. 1 star is my rating because you can’t have 0.

Updat to my review. I contacted the California State Licensing Dept. After a lengthy investigation Encinitas Rehab. was found guilty of complete neglect. It was confirmed that the staff stood around my dad bed and just watched as he choked to death. It was also confirmed that all that was needed was to have his air way cleared and his chances of survival would have been greater then his chances of dying. Please do not believe the giant sign hanging from their building. The survey that determined how many stars they receive has nothing to do with the state of California’s guide lines and laws.

Fortunately, I’ve not had to experience any nursing facilities on a personal level… until now. I finally found my father (after 18 years)… He has been a resident @ this facility for 3 years. I’m very unhappy at what I’ve seen & heard of my Dad’s care here. There is no attentiveness to his hygiene needs. There is no schedule of any sort. Unfortunately, the lack of care is obvious when I visit. He has on 2 different shoes, unmatched clothing, bad breath, unshaven and long fingernails. This is unacceptable.

When you listen to their telephone recording they make laughable claims. They claim to be a five-​star nursing home and have an ocean view, the only one in San Diego County. The Ocean view is kept only for people in specific rooms. There is no Ocean view for the other residents. My husband has been there three years, the family/​visiting room has not materialized yet. Consequently, you have nowhere to go to be alone with your loved one. This place is cold, and unwelcoming. This is the best of the information I can give you. I have contacted the department of public health three times for assistance. The first time was when my husband walked out (he has dementia) and was found by an employee who works in the laundry walking down Santa Fe. No one knew he was missing. Recently he was taken by ambulance between 4 and 5 AM with a terrific gash on his head. No explanation for it. The nursing home did not know where the ambulance took my husband. I had to make multiple phone calls to get this information. People are afraid to make complaints about abuses to their loved ones at nursing homes. They think the nursing home will treat their loved ones worse. Had it not been for me and my frequent visits, my husband would not have gotten half the bad care he gets now.

I am giving them one star because they had some nice folks in the physical therapy department. I would give negative stars if I could for members of their administration staff who are completely incapable of helping you when you are at your most desperate stage. My mom was a resident there for nearly 4 months and all I can say is avoid this facility at all costs. You need these folks to communicate with you so badly and they are not even capable of doing so much as returning a call. You need their help. Bad. Maybe they have never had a loved one of their own who was very sick and under someone else’s care? When this happens you’re desperate for answers and help. Joseph Franz is the executive director and should be held accountable for their completely cold and uncaring demeanor and attitude. I am so disappointed in them and sad to have to write this. Maybe they can get better and work on things like compassion and understanding when people are going through a crisis? To them you are a number, a commodity, a bed. This is not the case at all facilities so please choose wisely.

This is the DEFINITIVE review of the Encinitas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as I WAS THE PATIENT who actually stayed there for 1 full week. I could have left after 3 days, but I chose to stay longer. I liked the regimentation of knowing I had to do Physical Therapy in the morning and Occupational Therapy in the afternoon. And, I loved my caregivers at «ENRC».
The facility is dated in small cosmetic ways but very clean and well run. The second day I was there, the Director, Sandra, came to my room with all of her supervisors who introduced themselves to me. They asked if I needed anything, but I told them everything was fine. How many places do you think that happens? Zero. Even the supervisor of the kitchen was there to see if I had any special requirements.
The staff, I can’t say enough positive things. They were always there when needed them and with an infectious happy personality. Not bad when you are in physical rehab to have everyone around you up and positive. You felt like these people really cared about YOU.
Most of the food was good. But, if you were concerned you might not like the evening entrée, simply order a sandwich of your choice to fall back on. They will deliver both and then you can decide or eat them both. The dietitian came to my room on the second day and said I should be on a 2400 calorie per day diet because of my size. Their standard menu is based on 2200 calories per day. So, she offered me some simple options like adding a small bowl of cottage cheese or yogurt to each of my meals. Everyone that works there seemed really genuinely interested in me.
They have 2 gyms. One with a spectacular unobstructed view of the ocean and the other with about a 50″ flat screen TV. Sometimes I would just pull up a chair and enjoying the sun setting over the ocean. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Again, I did not see this facility from the outside in. I was the patient that lived there. I don’t think you can get a stronger endorsement from anyone. Finally, this should not even be an issue worth bringing up, but it may the single biggest difference between «ENRC» and other nursing and rehab centers. 80% of their employees are Filipinos with 2 Vietnamese and the remaining are Caucasian, Hispanic, etc. That turned out to be the hugest plus of all for me. At least 80−90% of my care and interaction was with the Filipino staff and 2 Vietnamese. They are awesome, caring, loving, concerned, well trained, professionals with great attitudes. They are always happy. It is infectious and adds to a positive rehab experience.
