I actually found Encinitas Optometry by looking on Unilocal.I was looking for a doctor in my neighborhood and a doctor that accepted VSP insurance. I’m so glad that I chose them. The staff was friendly and competent. I was in for a yearly check and to discuss a problem I was experiencing. Dr. Hutchinson was easy to talk to and very thorough. Looking forward to picking up my new glasses next week!

Super friendly and helpful staff that doesn’t keep you waiting. Love a doctor’s office where an appointment is an actual appointment time and not an «arrive at such and such time and the doctor will eventually get around to see you.» They have an optomap machine that scans your eye instead of using the dilation drops. Which gives Dr. Owen a better image. And doesn’t leave you temporarily blind and wearing those gigantic black grandma/grandpa shades. It costs $ 35 extra because insurance won’t pay but it’s worth it. The telephone reminders are a nice touch.

The exam is fine but the sales are like a used car salesperson. Over priced, confusing, with prices piling on for no apparent reason. I went there for years but after two years in a row of being ripped off on costs, no more.

Friendly staff and very competent doctors are a nice thing but Encinitas Optometry ruins the entire experience by continually adding on cost after cost. The worst part is they never explain any of the costs to you and at the end of your visit you’ll likely receive a hand written receipt that goes a long way to confusing you even more. I’ve been to this place every year since 2007 and I’m done with them. I’d rather go to Lenscrafters at the mall.

I went to visit Dr. Owen in September of 2010 because I was having some eye irritation. It ended up being a simple eyelash removal.(Which I could have easily done at home but the eyelash was too light for me to see). The office visit took all of about 10 minutes. Roll forward to March of 2011… I receive a bill for $ 154. Thats right, $ 154 to pull out an eyelash. Since it was a «medical» visit not a sight visit, they used my medical insurance opposed to my vision insurance. My bill outlines the office visit at $ 79 and the eyelash removal at 75. I did call the office to double check on the bill and Debbie stated that the«office visit» was actually a typo and should have been more expensive. So at approximately $ 80-possibily over $ 100 for just stepping your foot in the door… I think Ill pass. Went to another eye doctor in February for pink eye and was out of there for $ 50. Ill stick with him.

I was fortunate enough to be referred to this place by someone who spoke highly of Dr. Owen. Everything about this office is what a Doctor office should be: Friendly, patient, clean and caring. Dr. Owen: Intelligent, kind and caring. My first eye exam ever, each test was explained to me with patience and kindness. I was a bit freaked out at first but the staff here(Debbie) and the Doctor are amazing. At the end of my visit i was provided with a prescription, doctor emergency contact(his cell) in case i have a need for him during emergency hours(weekends, etc) and i couldnt be more satisfied.
