I used to go to this shop when I lived in La Jolla many years ago. I love this shop, they have a great selection of new, used & vitage longboards. I’ve seen some beautiful classic boards in here such as Da Cat. They also carry a great selection of books, videos, magazines, CD’s & accessories. I used to go here all the time and just browse around to see what new (vintage) books or boards they got in. If you live in LA, I would say its worth a trip down there to check it out, get up early and hit some spots in North San Diego County after your moring session get some breakfast in Encinitas and then head to the store and check it out.

This shop rocks, and it has for many years now. There are some great finds here for men and women. In addition to classic surf boards and surf gear, this place sells some groovy home accessories such as little tiki men lamps, but I enjoy this store for the women’s clothing.
It is rare that I can find a shop where both me and my dad can spend hours going through the selection, but Longboard Grotto is one of those shops.
I concur with Julie’s review, Longboard Grotto has a great selection of sun dresses. I bought a Toes on the Noes sun dress there that I got much use out of (the stitching eventually wore out).

The quintessential old-​school surf shop featuring lots and lots of longboards and longboard old-​school collectibles. This place is a tribute to the great surfing legends and the lifestyle that was popularized in the 1050’s. They carry every classic book ever written about surfing, every classic movie ever made about surfing and surf magazines from all over the world. You can also find vintage collectibles and a great selection of tikis.
They have a good selection surf clothes, especially sundresses for girls and women. If you go at the end of the season everything is marked down to 5 and 10 bucks. ½ of my summer wardrobe comes from this store. It’s a very laid-​back atmosphere and the service is just as laid-​back.
