Very unorganized ... The little bald guy that owns the place is kinda creepy the way he interacts with his young female staff. Funny though, His Wife which works there also wishes he had a head full of dark hair like the nice Security Guard, TJ, that they have there.

Ha! Brought in a designer bag and even though it’s a few months old it was not in style. Are you kidding me? You have no name brands that look like forever 21 brands from 10 years ago but you think a few month old designer bag is out of style? Last time I checked my «out of style» bag is still worth more than half your merchandise. Used to be my go-​to. Now it’s a not and will be telling everyone them same, oh wait it’s already their rep! Get girls who actually understand merchandise and maybe you’ll have better customers and stars again.

I love this store! The staff is super friendly and helpful. Usually the store is a hit or miss for me, sometimes I leave the store with 2 giant bags or just a couple items. Sure, you don’t get much money for selling your clothes to them, but in my opinion, it’s better than nothing! I come here all the time and I’ll keep going. Make sure you get a customer appreciation card so you can eventually get 20% off!

I know the whole point of a store like this is that they buy your clothes for a low price and resell them for more to make a profit.
But the prices at this store are a little outrageous. Not sure why I would pay $ 20 for a pair of hollister jeans from here when the actually store almost always has them on sale for $ 25 year round.
At the moment they’re having a 50% off sale on certain items, giving them a price I think they should have had in the first place. Hello! This is a used clothing store!
(They say they sell trendy clothes but most of the stuff packed into the store had been sitting there for years)
I brought in some clothes to try and sell. I had a large bag filled with clothes from brandy Melville, hollister, forever 21, brands they’re looking for! I came back a little later and I got $ 10… No explanation.

Well organized little store with plenty of variety. The staff is generally very willing to help you out. Fun little place to shop for quality clothes at a good price. AND YOU DONT HAVE TO FIGHT CROWDS!

Find it hard to believe that the store is looking for clothes from Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and other named stores but rejected my Steve Maddens, and two pairs of heels from Charlotte because «they weren’t in season.» Seems a little odd.

Got to say my experience here was incredible I found a LOT of cute clothes (activewear) at great prices and I also found myself a personal stylist there who was a huge help in giving me the best experience there! Thank you Andy for all your help and great attitude I will most definitely will be coming back!

This place needs to change their buying policy like, yesterday.
How are you going to give people 2 dollars for something then resell it 39 !!!
And this is USED CLOTHES, you can’t be a Nazi about clothes being in season. The «in season» clothes I have ARE ON MY BACK. Am I supposed to give you my new clothes & wear what’s used? They seriously need to be more lenient.
As for their customer service, those girls need some communication skills. Fashion industry isn’t just about looking nice, take care of your customers, speak up, and don’t be rude. The girl that attended me didn’t even look through my bag. Supposedly they’ll take anything with tags on them, I had 3 items in my bag with tags. When I go to pick up my bag she said she can’t take anything at all & I asked her about the clothes with tags. She looked like a deer in headlights. What kind of BS is that !
Later she hands me a Platos closet flyer showing what they want and she started describing things I should bring in. Like okay let me just go shopping for you real quick & bring it all here.

Best customer service ! The girls there are always so attentive and upbeat. Best part they do it with a smile :) I lost my keys and one of them stood outside watched my car while I was searching in the store. Soo sweet ! (I found them ;) These girls go out of there way to please ! They even know me by name ;) Service is above and beyond ! Prices are next to nothing for qual items. Keep up the awesome job ! Who ever is doing the hiring there is on point

Plato’s Closet is a «clean» thrift shop. Very convenient if you want to save a buck on clothing. You’ll find a variety of colors and styles for under $ 40 (found men’s sneakers with gum in sole). I don’t recommend selling your own items unless you don’t care about how much you make. I brought in 3 Gap men’s long sleeve button ups, an H&M faux leather jacket, American Eagle tan blazer and Grey Wool Gap Bomber Vest that is $ 80 retail price. Overall my items would have been $ 250+ but was only offered $ 20. Shop there but don’t sell your clothes.

I have been going here for about a year or so in the beginning I really liked it but the last three times my wife and I have gone there not so much. They have become so selective on what the purchase it is not worth the time going through your closet and driving over. Out of twenty items they only wanted two and offered 4 dollars. I had probably 6 – 7 pairs of jeans that I paid over 50 a pair for all in good shape they did not take one pair much better than the LEE jeans they had on the rack. Maybe they have forgotten the concept behind their store. Oh well I will just go to the mall.

Good job Plato’s Escondido for keeping this chick around! Very helpful and helped me pick out the perfect outfit for an upcoming event. Shoes a jacket and a dress totaled $ 28. I was SHOCKED when they told me the total. This place is the best!

Awesome spot to sell clothing, especially for guys! The people who work there are pretty cool, but one person who will particularly give great customer service is Danica. If you don’t want to be stressed out or anything, she’s a very helpful and positive person.
Also, If you’re looking for style, this place beats out any thrift shop I’ve ever been to.

I haven’t sold or shopped here recently because I went in last week and their buying system was down. I received a $ 5 off coupon for the inconvenience, which was nice considering that I had brought my 5 month old along for the trip and getting out of the house these days isn’t easy.
Last time I sold here I didn’t have a good experience. I had brought in a bag full of clothes and a few accessories and after coming back after an hour they informed me that they weren’t interested in buying anything. So I took my items and went back home. Upon getting back home I noticed that the leather coach wristlet I took for them to look at wasn’t in my bag. So I called the store and the manger told me she would call me back because they had bought it from another customer. They called the other customer who said that it wasn’t hers and then they called me back and told me I could come get it. They only wanted to offer me $ 8 for it which kind of added insult to injury considering my 8 months pregnant self had to come all the way back to retrieve it. All I got was a «sorry, that’s never happened before».
Other then that experience I haven’t had a bad experience and I’ve been selling there since they were at their old location. It’s kind of hit or miss when selling to them. Sometimes they aren’t looking for the styles you have no matter how unworn or good of condition they are in. I can’t complain about how much they give for each item because the convenience of not having to sell the items myself is worth it.

Okay. The customer service could be better. But this isn’t Bloomingdale’s or Nordies folks. This is a budget consignment store and these are young women working for minimum wage in retail. I wasn’t too enthralled at their age either doing the same line of work.
For those of you complaining they didn’t buy your stuff. Just because YOU think an item is high quality and will absolutely sell doesn’t mean it’s right for the kind of customers that come in. Yeah. Your Hudson brand jeans are almost brand new. But this is Escondido. Not La Jolla. Much different customer base. Also. I bet you threw everything into a huge bag, right? Thought so! Try folding them or bringing things in storage containers. They dig through clothes day in and day out. One balled up shirt begins to look like another balled up shirt if you catch my drift! I also say fold them before you bring them in because the employees have commented on it before! If it looks like you take care of your things, they’ll take care of you. And the extra amount you get in return for your things definitely shows. I walked with $ 180 that day and I’ve folded my clothes before coming in ever since.
If there’s a slight stain on something, nbd. You came to a USED clothing store afterall. I’m sure plenty of stuff has spilled on that dress you’re buying. The difference is you just don’t know about it. Pay the five bucks or don’t. But don’t knock the store for doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing. Which is. you know. selling used stuff.
Sometimes prices can be a little inconsistent and the racks are extremely difficult to go through because of the overcrowding of hangers (hence 4 stars). But I always take the time to stop in here when I’m in Escondido. Definitely worth the glance if you’re looking for a quick addition to the wardrobe.

It’s just so disappointing. You will leave doubting your fashion sense and feel slightly embarrassed toting a huge Cosco trash bag *back* to your car. Most of the clothes they don’t take, and if they do want an item, you only get $ 3-​$ 6 a pop. You just feel cheap and used afterwards.
Especially when you see the flip — the price could be more than you actually paid for the piece in the first place!

If you are thinking about selling here, don’t set your standards high.
My review isn’t based upon what they bought from me, that was fine. $ 10 for a few shirts. My review is strictly based on their customer service (or lack thereof) at this store. I was told that my buy would be about 40 – 45 mins max. After 1 hour, I checked in at the front with the progress of my buy, I was told my name should appear on the screen shortly.
I was done looking at the selection in the store so I left, got gas and came back — positive that my buy would be complete. This is 1 hr and 45 mins later. My name is still no where on the board. Get up to the front of the line and request to know when my buy would be complete and had an associate tell me «It’s been done for quiet a while now. Don’t you see your name on the board?»
The entire time I was there, my name never showed up. There was a «Kylie» on the board and a «McKenzie» which are no where near close to Kayla. The young girls that are working that this store (18 – 25 yrs old) have no sense of costumer service skills, at all. Not worth the drive to Plato’s, I’ll continue taking my clothing to buffalo exchange for better customer service. I’d actually rather just donate them all then have to deal with this staff.

So. As I read reviews, the point of the store is to give fair pricing on clothing they buy, however. They just don’t.
I sold 4 pairs of shoes is never worn, coach, charolette ruse and nike.
Was offered 3 $ a pair. I mean whatever I’ll never wear them.
The kicker is they were selling these things for wayyyyyyy to fucking much.
My coach shoes I sold 32 $!
And the heels? 19 $ a peice
So, why people are upset is because it’s a total dishonest pledge.
They don’t offer fair pricing, and in return they make back 4X what they paid.
Best case is to sell it on a resale page, buy from there but if you want a fair selling price nope.

Writing this review while I’m waiting for my clothes to be sifted through. So far I’m not too hopeful about what my buyback amount will be… two other customers with bigger clothes bags than mine didn’t seem to sell that much. Overheard the employee mention that they didn’t buy a customer’s clothes due to the brands. Seems they like Hollister, Forever 21, H&M, etc. Tip: you can call before you come in to see if they’ll buy a certain brand.
I remember selling to Plato’s a long time ago when their location was next to the Escondido Target. Good for them for moving to a more spacious location — it has a better, cleaner, less claustrophobic atmosphere than in the past.
I also like the addition of these barstools at the front of the store that you can sit on while waiting for them to be done looking at your clothes.
I appreciate that when I dropped my bag off the girl at the counter told me the approximate time I can expect to wait. She’s looking through my bag right now!
Final result: $ 16 for a couple of t-​shirts and a pair of pants. *shrug* Better than just having them sit at the back of my closet. She explained why she bought certain items and why she didn’t — super pleasant and friendly.
Overall an ok, quick, and semi-​profitable visit.
