Review on Sara: I had long straight hair about 4″ below my shoulders. I went to Sara to have my haircut and styled. She was very pleasant. During the haircut she kept telling me that no one in her shop would ever ruin anyone’s hair. She also kept stressing that she wanted my hair to look«purposeful» as if everything done to it had been done on purpose. At the end she styled it by scrunching it and told me that I should get used to pulling it back with my hands and it would look fine. After arriving home the first thing I noticed was that both of my ears were chemical burned, red and sore and itching. I had no chemical treatment so I found this alarming. My husband came home and freaked out because I had huge holes all over my head. He started taking pictures of the back of my head and yes, there are several(more than four) huge holes hacked into my hair. There are patches where the hair is so short it sticks out straight. She left the very top layer long and it looks like I’m trying to cover bald spots with a comb over. I am new to Eugene, and I have never met this woman before. Since she stressed that my haircut was purposeful, I must assume that she had every intention to destroy my hair and that she attacked me with malice and forethought. Normal people don’t destroy people for no apparent reason.

Nani did my trim and styling today and I love it! I would recommend her to anyone with layers due to having thin or fine hair. My hair is really fine, but I have a lot of it and it’s long and wavy. It gets so frizzy and tangled easy, and as one length all over it just hangs with the weight. She listened to my ideas and wants for layers and framing my face, offered options and explained her ideas. She also wasn’t overly chatty, distracted easy or too quiet, so I felt comfortable and welcome. Now my hair is soft, full, shiny health and I can run my fingers through it! I will be back, thank you!

I went in for highlights on my mousy bronde hair with grown out terrible dye job. I told Emily I wanted beige blonde highlights, she looked at my eye color and mixed up the bleach. End result was spot on, the perfect color I had in my head. Emily gave me a quick trim to blunt the ends. I liked the funky interior of the salon and there was no pressure to buy costly products, she simply checked that I was using a shampoo that was kind to color. Emily also let me know that I could see how I liked the color for a few days and she would lighten or darken it if I changed my mind. Highlights for under a hundred is an amazing deal!

Nani did my hair for my wedding and it was perfect! Got my hair cut by her a week later and I love it. Nani is very easy to work with and good at what she does. A month ago I came in for a color correction. I’d been dying my naturally blonde hair with henna for about six months. Henna bonds with your hair and is very difficult and unpredictable to dye over. Melissa was able to get my hair from a bright red to a subtle strawberry blonde. Excellent results with minimal damage.

My boyfriend and I just moved to Eugene from Las Vegas, we were in a desperate need for cuts. I looked up for a place that wasn’t a chain. I saw the name of the salon and well, I ran there! I called made a appointment for the both of us that day which wasn’t problem. My boyfriend got sat first I waiting maybe 15 mins for my lady to finish her client. I forgot the ladies name, Hispanic, apparently always there on Sunday. I can’t wait to go back she was knowledgeable and did a great job.

Emily kicked ass! I’m so picky with my hair and it is super thick, so usually people either thin it too much and it gets frizzy, or not enough and then it doesn’t sit right. She really took the time to figure out what I wanted and just nailed it! She was super nice, fast, and just awesome in general! The shop was clean, super cute, and chic. It wasn’t intimidating like a high end salon sometimes feels, and made me feel at home. Perfect for Eugene! I plan on going back to Emily for my next cut, the price and end result were perfect for me :)

Kristin cut and styles my hair just the way I want. She has a a real talent for suggesting hairstyles that not only suit your face, but always listens to what you are wanting. I would highly recommend her to anyone from hair crisis to simple chop.

At first I was a bit stand of fish due to the fact of the exterior façade of the salon. However, I read the great reviews and decided to give the place a chance. So far I’ve been there three different times and have been exceptionally impressed with my hair cuts and service. I will continue to see my stylist Emily as long as she works there!

If you have fine hair as I do, then Melissa is the stylist for you. I have spent 3.5 years looking for the person that would be able to give me a cut that is wash and go or be styled without cut lines showing, uneven sides, etc. If you have fine hair you know what I am talking about. This is the first time I have written a review and probably the only time, but it is so well deserved I had no choice but do the right thing. Melissa cleaned up a mess of a cut my first visit and my second visit is finally in great shape. Thank you so much Melissa! Linda C

This is not a trendy salon environment. However, the prices are as expensive as a formal salon. The building used to be a house and you can tell. If you’re looking for the chic salon experience this is not for you. That being said, it is a quaint little shop and the staff is friendly and I received an amazing cut and color. I called on a Sunday morning to schedule an appointment and they were able to get me in that afternoon for a cut and highlight color. I tend to wait until the last minute to schedule my appointments so this was great for me. And open on a Sunday is a huge bonus. My appointment was with Emily. She was professional and took the time to help me decide what I wanted. I didn’t feel rushed at all, even though I knew she was squeezing me in between clients. She was able to help me choose the color I wanted and make the highlights pop the way I wanted them to. It was a little spendy, but I was very happy with the results and I plan to go back. Pros: open 7 days a week, usually available for same day service, can work with your schedule if you need a late appointment Cons: a little pricey, outside appearance of the business

Went to Lora for an eyebrow wax and very unhappy. First, she called to reschedule. No problem. But when I showed up, I still had to wait quite a while until she was at a stopping point with another client — why double book us when I was amenable to any time that worked for her? Again, no big deal. But, my face was clearly not her priority, and she was rushed. She waxed the same area twice rather than tweezing what didn’t get done the first time, and it made my eyebrows totally uneven because it took off too much. Not a good arch and she took off too much from each side so it didn’t line up properly. When i looked in the mirror she said, «I think it looks good,» which made it clear that there was no fixing it with her. Now I have the shame of growing out eyebrows to even it up. Worst eyebrow wax I’ve ever had.

First time coming to I Run With Scissors and it was amazing. Emily did an amazing job despite my description being vague. She was helpful, patient, and knew exactly what I wanted. I left very happy and cannot wait to go back. If you decide to go, I would definitely recommend Emily.

Melissa is the best! I’ve been going to her for awhile now and wouldn’t have it any other way. She does what I want and that’s important when it comes to hair! You can tell she’s been doing this for awhile now and every time she’s spot on. The highlights and hair cut is always what I want, nothing more nothing less. :-) reasonable prices too!

I usually dye my hair myself, but I decided to get it done professionally this time. My hair is a fire red and fades FAST! I don’t have a lot of time to be doing it every month. I called this place and they got me an appointment the next day. Ill be honest, when I saw the place I wanted to leave. It looks like a shabby little unprofessional place, but I sucked it up an went inside. It’s outside is very deceiving and looks nice and comfortable inside. I picked a color, she does my hair, and even cut my boyfriend hair while mine was processing. It was just a really comfortable experience. I only gave it four stars because the lady didn’t really know how to cut my boyfriends hair. I highly suggest this place if you’re looking to get your hair dyed.

before I had come across I run with scissors, I had a really hard time finding an affordable and good hairdresser in eugene. out of desperation I went to I run with scissors to get a trim for my, at the time, really long unmanageable hair. I was given to melissa and left completely happy with my cut and the price(around $ 30). and then I decided to cut off all of my hair into a pixie. I went to melissa again because she seemed to know what she was doing with my thick wavy hair. I honestly couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. she was really patient with my hemming and hawing about getting it cut, and happily looked at all the reference pictures I had brought and we were able to make a plan based on what I had seen online. I’ve seriously been getting compliments a couple of times a week about my haircut since I got it cut in april, and usually from complete strangers. unfortunately I moved from eugene, but I figured I’d give melissa some good publicity.

I went to Sara when she was still located on Lawrence. I saw her for I think about a year and she would cut and color my hair and cut my husband’s hair. She did a good job and I even referred people to her. My wedding was coming up and we talked over several appointments about her doing my hair and she offered to even come to the wedding venue and do my hair there. Well the day came for my scheduled appointment for a pre wedding run through and she never showed! She wasn’t there. There was no sign on the door, no message on her voicemail and no one had tried to contact me. To this day(almost 4 years later) I have no clue what happened. I tried to call and was concerned about what had happened, but finally just got pissed. I ended up having to go to London salon to get my wedding hairstyle and really wasn’t super impressed with their attitude or work. This all could have been avoided if she had just let me know what was going on.

I cannot give Sara enough credit! Every time she’s cut my hair, no matter my mood or projected ideas of what style I want, I leave with a good look and always get compliments on my hair from my wife, co-workers, and friends! For any white guy hair from trendy/fashion-forward to business interview, I cannot recommend her highly enough! Save yourself from wasting your money, time, and frustration at going to a sports-bar type hair salon and book an appointment with Sara. She may not have a giant new LEDTV to watch something on while you’re getting your hair done, but 15−30minutes of conversation is well worth a few weeks worth of great hair!

…yeahhh I hate to talk crap about people and their services but, hey I gotta speak the truth, so.(this is gonna be long, if you don’t want to read that far, just scroll the the last paragraph) ***Okay, no need to read this if you’re not Asian or other ethnic group with different hair needs than the majority of our college-town population… or if you have common hairstyling needs.*** So, as you can see in my pictures, I’m Asian. I know, it’s the eyes. They’re a big giveaway ;) Anyway, I normally cut my own hair and some friends’ and have been for like 8 years just because I am always disappointed that stylists cannot give me what they THINK they can offer to me(not to mention unwillingness to pay over $ 40 for a haircut, I’m gonna say that anything more just sounds ridiculous and I could care less about expensive brand shampoo and whatnot). Since I let a friend of mine borrow my shears a couple years ago, she still has yet to give them back to me(I know, what a ho) and I don’t talk to her anymore either for unrelated reasons. I will usually go back to the Bay Area to get a hair trim while visiting family. And … man, all I can say is, I’ve been to non-Asian hairstylists and seriously, no matter what they say, they can NOT cut Asian hair! I wasn’t fond of the idea of going back to CA for some time but I was in dire need to tame the growing mushroom that laid on top of my head, and I had seen good reviews for this place(none from Asians but hey, maybe they like to lay low.) and a groupon was what it took to bring me here. I went to see Chelsea(which was who the groupon was for) and I have to say, she’s super nice and friendly for conversation making, but wow when it came to hair, she seemed pretty nervous yet daring enough to tell me how much experience she had in cutting hair. And I think her haircut looks cute, so I was like, maybe she’s just one of those secret ninja awesome hair stylist incognito or something. BUTNO! Okay let me just start my story now ha ha. Here’s how the conversation rolled: Me: blah blah blah, oh yeah I just moved into the area like a year ago too. Actually… This is my very first time getting my hair cut in Eugene. actually just in Oregon. Last time I cut my hair was like 6 mths ago. Chelsea: Oh yeah? Well don’t worry, you’re in good hands :) Me: Awesome! I don’t really go to hairdressers often though, it’s just hard to find someone who can really get my hair the way I want it without overdoing it! Chelsea: Oh, yeah not many people can do Asian hair… *me: huh??? *REDFLAG, REDFLAG** Chelsea: .so I had training at [a few brand salons], your hair looks like a Toni&Guy cut, I can recognize that style anywhere. Me: No, it’s not but cool thanks. By the way, she hadn’t started cutting yet. She just stared at my hair for a while with a pair of scissors in her hand. Then she whipped out a razor and just went around my whole head. When I saw that, I decided to remind her like at the beginning of my appointment, «oh by the way, I just want a really small trim, no changes, no length changes, just the split ends only and lighten the volume on the top, okay?» Chelsea: Oh I know :) ok cool thanks. … *razors* and then she got super nervous… and she kept going. I was looking in the mirror and I got pissed and frustrated that I even stopped being able to make much conversation in the end! I was like, Whoa, what the hell is she doing? She just then started chatting more with another stylist while chopping chunks off. I had a fucking grass patch in my head. The other stylist just looked at my hair and didn’t say anything either, except, «Oh. =)…»… Then when she paused, I was like, «Okay, so —» Then she kept going, and it just got bad, I never had to do this before but I just exclaimed, «…STOP. OKAY sorry I’m done, Thanks.» She couldn’t even style my hair right, especially not without having an even more nervous look on her face. You could just tell she KNEW she did a bad job. I didn’t wanna give her a hard time and I WAS actually very patient and calm, except telling her to stop what she was doing. I just came out looking like I was found in a cardboard box in Springfield. I ended it with, «.This may possibly be my last haircut in Eugene.» Perhaps harsh but I’m just being honest. I ended up having to wear a beanie literally every day for 9 weeks AND I would go to bed with my hoodie over my head. and it STILL didn’t grow back properly. Even my friends and my bf were like, …yeahhh it’s not very good at all, I liked your original hair so much better. So. if you’re Asian, or perhaps you just have a different hairstyling need than the norm, I wouldn’t suggest going to Chelsea. I’m sure she’s good at other services though. Oh yeah, she usually charges $ 40 and offers 10% discounts to UO students, but I had a groupon for $ 20.

I have been going to Sara for my hair for about four years. She is great. I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed her before now! I had a lot of bad luck with hair stylists before I found Sara. I originally went to her to fix my botched hair color, and she was able to do it without using harsh dyes and chemicals – just stains every few months for a while. She also did my hair for my wedding and it turned out really well. For a few years when I was living in the Bay Area I would always wait to get my hair cut until I was visiting family in Eugene – that’s how good she is – the San Francisco stylists couldn’t steal me away :) I love that Sara always listens to what her clients want. I have long hair and in the past I’d go to someone asking for a trim and I’d leave with several inches cut off. Sara never does that. She is also really an artist – she can work from pictures and tailor the styles to work for your own hair/face. Recently I decided to try layering my long hair. I brought in some pictures of styles I liked, and Sara did an amazing job. It really looks great – I wish I’d done it a few years ago! Finally, Sara is also very affordable, and she doesn’t push lots of expensive products, which I appreciate.
