The food is decent but overpriced. Also, it takes a longish time for the food to get out. I probably would not reccomend this unless you like tepenyaki. It is the only place in Humboldt county that serves it. Lastly the ambiance is very nice

The last time we were in there the wind was blowing hard and we were seated at a table close to the patio doors making it very cold. I complained to the waiter and he said there wasn’t much he could do. I noticed a fireplace and asked the waiter if he could turn it on and he replied «it doesn’t work.» A few minutes later the waiter returned and told me he turned the heat up and we noticed the difference right away. It made a huge difference.
The Volcano roll is amazing and is the main reason we will be back in the future!

Had a great dinner! The chief was awesome! Food was great and the sake bombs were nice !! So much food for the money! Would definitely come back! Highly recommend

FOOD POISONING!
The wait staff and chefs are very kind and seemed to know the menu and beverage choices well. The ambiance is amazing, right on the waterfront. The entire atmosphere and overall feel of the evening was pleasant. However, several hours after eating the Sashimi platter and one Salmon Skin Temaki, I was violently ill. The culprit, food poisoning. Not a shred of doubt. Hot and cold sweats, nausea, headache and frequent vomiting. I do not wish this on anyone. I feel that they should have their refrigerators inspected. And quite possibly hit the reset button and throw out the fish inventory and start anew.

Tried to interact with Japanese sushi chef and he acted like a jerk
White kid assistant was ok, but has to work with a jerk boss
Table service was almost acceptable, not bad just very slow at the end
Will not return or recommend based on rude sushi chef and minimal fish selection

Always a great place for a show and excellently prepared food. Its good to see that the new chefs are catching on quickly, although it is apparent they are still getting the hang of things.

$ 15 for two tuna hand rolls… just tuna and white rice. No vegetables or tobiko. Overpriced and very underwhelming. Will never recommend unless you like that getting ripped off feeling. The same order is cheaper in San Francisco… what the hell?

(For the teppanyaki) A lot of waiting, total about hour and a half from the reservation time.
Don’t get me wrong, the food was pretty good. I loved the fried rice with the golden miso sauce! And you definitely get a lot of food, equivalent to what you pay. Everything was pretty tasty. My cousins felt it was a little heavy on the pepper. But the vegetables, shrimp, salad and miso were filling on their own. They come with your dish.
I ordered a split salmon with my mom. It was too much and we took a lot home by the time we got it since there was so much food.
The time really killed it though. And it is very cramped. Maybe just our timing with the arts and jazz festivals going on.

Found out they don’t devein the shrimp used for sushi. Sushi is mediocre at best. Would rather go to any other sushi restaurant. Won’t be eating there again.

Place is nice and the customer service was refreshing. However, the food was very bland and unsatisfying. I wouldn’t come back here by choice but they also serve Italian Food which I hear is delicious.

Be prepared to wait forever to be seated. They overbook and make you wait over an hour. Food is alright, but there are wayyy better places to eat in Humboldt. Overrated.

I came here for the sushi, so this is what this review is focused on.
Got the black kitty, kalidoscope, and dungeness crab rolls. Best to worst in that order. All 3 were delicious and so very worth it though. From taste to presentation, the sushi chefs nailed it. This place is great for a dinner date.
The server wasnt very enthusiastic. As long as she did her job though.

I usually love eating here. This last visit tonight made me second guess returning. First thing I noticed after seating was that there were no chopsticks with the cloth napkins on the tables. And I didn’t get any sticks until my sushi came out, even after I ordered fried calamari and REQUESTED chopsticks! I ATE FRIED CALAMARI WITH MY FREAKING FINGERS! I don’t know if they aren’t supplying all of the tables with sticks to save money or something but it was ridiculous not having at least cheap disposable eating utensils… It’s a medium to high end priced restaurant, that mostly serves japanese food. If I’m going to have to buy my own chopsticks for when I go to a sushi place, I’ll find a place that provides chopsticks!

Sushi rice is way too salty. My boyfriend said the same thing. It overloads your taste buds and you’re just like «SALT.»
I ordered a couple of their rolls and they accommodated me fine for being vegan.
Would I go again?

Always good, I haven’t had a bad experience or meal yet. I’ve tryed the other sushi bars in eureka and won’t go back unless it’s bayfront. Great service, good food… even my son’s burger looked dank! All around awsome… can’t wait to do tep grill when I have people to go!

I found this place by accident and what a wonderful surprise. I had no idea it was a Sushi and Italian place. The food was awesome. The Kaleidoscope sushi was excellent! Also ordered the Teriyaki Chicken which was very delicious.
The servers were very pleasant. There was a delay with my food but I was okay with it because I was informed of the delay.
Overall I would definitely go back and highly recommend this place.

Given that diners sit looking out at the sea, the seafood is surprisingly lacking in taste — begging the question: is the sushi made from frozen fish? Three stars because service was prompt and lunch special was a good deal.

Dinner here last night with a good friend.
Beer was cold and did the trick, good to hear random lawyer guy got a conviction, busser boy was able to pass out his snapchat to some girl and saw an interesting parade of homeless walking the boardwalk. If the waitress was better at taking pictures, it would have been an all around fun night.
We went with a few rolls and the shrimp/​veggie tempura app. (It had only one shrimp)
Reasonably priced, great view of the bay and great flavors.

Black Kitty
Dungeness (my favorite)
Crazy Monkey (a close second)
Will definitely stop again when in the area.
